TS2570 Brand new iMac issues?
And if you have this issue with a brand new (one week old) iMac? Do you also have to do al these things trying to fix it? Or does Apple take back the 'old' iMac and immediately changes this for a new one?
You have 14 days from the date of purchase to return a Mac w/no questions asked.

I'm wondering if it is even possible to install the FCS 3 on brand new out-of-the-box Mavericks OS.... I need FCP 7 for my work. I allready installed FInal Cut Studio 3 on my Mavericks MacBook Air, but that OS was an updated one, from the previos version. It works greate (rendering is a nightmare though :-)).
The thing is that i have read meny post about People unable to Install Finac Cut Studio 3 on a brand new - not updated - Mavericks....
Will i I be able to install Final Cut Studio 3 on a brand new iMac with Mavericks out-of-the-box?Yes,
I have friends who have FCS 2009 (aka FCS 3) running on 10.9 machines from fresh installs.
Be aware that if you use a third party output device (Kona, Decklink, MXO, etc) you must have the updated drivers as well.
One friend had such issues with his Blackmagic Intensity card in a MacPro that he went back to an earlier OSX to find stability.

Brand new iMac freezes constantly! Updates aren't helping!
Hello everyone,
This past Sunday I bought a brand new iMac intel Core 2 Duo with a 250 GB HDD and 1 GB of RAM. At home I set it up with my SAMSUNG 1080p 22" monitor, Apple bluetooth Keyboard and mightymouse, and a Western Digital 350 GB HDD hooked up via USB. I was excited to finally jump on the intel-based Mac bandwagon, as well as experience dual monitors for the first time.
That was Sunday. Tuesday evening I was watching "Rome" on itunes on my Samsung monitor while surfing the web with Omniweb on the iMac monitor. All of sudden, everything locked up. I was able to move my cursor, but nothing responeded to my clicking. I hard booted the system and loaded everything I had going again, and sure enough, it locked up a few moments later. I ran system update, updated everything, then restarted. Time went by and although not immediatly, later that night it froze up on me again.
Fast forward to last nite, and the freezing reached and all time high. 5 times. Each time was when I had a browser open in my iMac window and I had Quicktime playing in my Samsung monitor. I was watching a sports program, with the player fit to the screen.
I have read many posts about intel iMacs freezing late last year, but there was a firmware update that evidently fixed that. I have this update installed, and I have had no luck. I have even contacted Apple Care via phone where I got instructed to unplug everything, plug it back in, start in safe mode, and delete cache. That didn't help me out at all. Am I right insuspecting I have a faulty Video card? I just ordered 4GB of RAM, could this be a RAM issue? When diagnostics are run on a freezing computer and nothing shows, I'll put the program into a testing loop because this means one of two things: the issue is heat related so running the diagnostics several more times will bring on the heat so that the issue shows up or the installed RAM is marginal, just flaky enough to show up now and again but not so far off that a run through of the memory test catches it on the first run.
As I said in my original post, memory is always a suspect in a freezing or kernel panicking computer. And it does tend to top my list. But from what you describe I'm not quite willing to say, "Why don't you just wait until the RAM upgrade arrives?" -
Photoshop CS6 keeps crashing. I am using a brand new IMAC, I have 16GB RAM recently updated as it was running slow with 8GB and lots of hardrive space. When it crashes, i lose all my presents and it changes my preferences, it also fails to save or produce a recovered file despite settings asking it to do so every 5 mins now. When i try to report the problem, it says it has found an issue and gives me a link to a solution....but wont let me click on the link.... PLEASE HELP! It's killing my productivity.
If the crash started right after you added RAM, it could be a bad Ram dimm. You can try this - change the amount of RAM in Photoshop to 4G, this should stop Photoshop from using the higher ram. If it doesn't crash, it's probably the ram. Or run a diagnostic app. You don't say when it crashes, what you're doing when it crashes - it there a pattern? Did it ever work on this computer? Did it work on your previous computer? Without a lot of data, it could be related to the new computer... What OS version? Did you recently update it? Have you updated Photoshop to the most recent update?
Do you have any plug-ins loaded? Try restarting Photoshop, and immediately press & hold the shfit key to turn off plug-ins. -
Brand new imac Retina and can't enter Apple Diagnostics. Doing it wrong?
I've had various issues with my brand new imac retina. I've spoken with Apple Care about two of them (Finder icon issue; slow shut down) and we're working through it all trying to figure out if it's software and whether the current beta update will solve the problem when it comes out. They've extended their 14 day exchange to 60 days for me while we sort it out.
All said, one thing they suggested was to run the Apple Diagnostics by holding down D upon booting. I've tried running this, it comes to a screen wanting me to pick the language, and nothing happens. It's like it doesn't do anything upon picking the language, just sits there.
The Sr. Tech I was talking with just said "that's strange" but with other things we were discussing he went about focusing on the other things.
I may try yet another separate call to discuss this with them but I thought I'd check here to see if anyone has encountered/solved this issue, see if I'm going about it the wrong way.
I'm holding down D and I'm connected by ethernet. This is the new imac retina 5k, 2014.
Thanks.Clayton Rhoades wrote:

That's might nice of Apple. Personally, I would not be sorting anything out on a brand new Mac. I would be demanding a brand new replacement. One that is suppose to work rigiht out the box.

The techs wanted you to run Apple's Hardware Test. See KB Article: Using Apple Hardware Test - Apple Support

Brand new imac - streaming audio/video skips
Hey all,
I just purchased a brand new imac with snow leopard 10.6.1 on it. When I use any sort of streaming media (pandora, hulu, youtube, etc.) it intermittently slows wayyyy down and skips. I have no problems with this on my other computers (2nd gen macbook, lenovo thinkpad.) This problem occurs in both Safari and Firefox. I have tried changing the frequency channel on my router, to no avail. As a whole, the browsers are slower than I would expect them to be.
Any ideas? This is really aggravating, especially since it's so new.10.6.2 just dropped less than an hour ago, and includes a fix for this....
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3874
+this update addresses video playback and performance issues for iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2009) and iMac (27-inch, Late 2009) computers that may occur in some situations while AirPort is turned on+ -
Brand new iMac, kernel panics
I've got a brand new iMac, which frequently crashes, and blames the kernel_task, coreaudiod, FileStatsAgent, PluginProcess or Rome Total War.
I've included the most recent kernel panic.
I've run the dianostics, which came back clea, no issues ( Does this mean I'm out of the woods regarding hardware issues? ).
Any help appreciated.

Thunderbolt Bus: iMac, Apple Inc., 23.10Did this happen before 10.9.2? I have been having issues since 10.9.2 on my Early 2011 MBP and was able to definitively narrow it down to apple's graphics driver logic.
How did I come to this conclusion?
- Boot from my carbon copy cloner bootable backup and open an app that requires the discrete GPU (photoshop), gfxCardStatus indicates discrete GPU activated. Result: No problem
- Boot OS X without any startup items (If you have a problem with the automatic resume launching a discrete GPU requiring app before you get to quit .....hold SHIFT immediately after you start logging in)
- Open the same app under 10.9.2. Result : Screen flashes, gfxCardStatus indicates discrete active, OS X logs me out.
- Install standalone 10.9.2 package. Repeat steps. Result: SAME
- Create new account (in case it has to do with something I am not seeing). Repeat steps. Result: immediate logout (no extensions active etc on the new account)
So now i have a ton of kernel panics and crash reports from the window server from repeatedly testing different variations of my hypothesis. Conclusion: issue with automatic graphics swicthing.
So what I'm saying is it is possible that you do not have a hardware problem, but was just unlucky enough to get an iMac /w 10.9.2 on it. If that's the case then I would just recommend holding off for a lil 'till a fix is released. -
Brand new iMac: super slow web browsing
Brand new iMac is super slow while browsing the web.
We have cable internet, and the iMac is connected via ethernet cable to an Airport Extreme router. We have a Windows machine connected to the same router.
The Windows machine loads web pages extremely quickly, the iMac takes 20 seconds to a minute to load anything.
Clearly there is a settings problem on the iMac. No idea what.
It isn't the router.
It isn't the broadband connection.
It isn't the DNS server.
Please help!I'm not sure if you understood my original post, however, I will re-iterate it here.
I have several machines connected to the same network.
MacBook Pro
Windows machine
iMac.
Only the iMac exhibits any problems.
Clearly, the ISP is not the issue. The iMac is connected via Ethernet to the same router as the PC.
Clearly the Mac is the problem.
Changing DNS server has no effect. -
Brand new iMac and I can't access https sites. I'm using the default administrator account so no parental controls are configured. The only thing I've done so far is connected to the internet, changed some personal preferences (desktop picture, dock behavior), and downloaded some updates.
Also, for being brand new with nothing installed/running, it seems to be running slow. Safari responds slowly, launching items from the dock takes minutes not seconds.
Any ideas for either of these issues is appreciated. Not sure if this is relevent to gaining access to https sites, but have you installed the latest Java update from Apple?
Java for OS X Lion Update 1
It's been a while since I set up my new Mac but I think it came without Java installed and I had to downloaded it. If your Mac is new and has never had Java installed you won't be offered the update. You should have an app in your Utilities folder called Java Preferences. If it's there, launch it and see if it tells you anything. -
Brand new iMac 27 2011 won't boot after Lion upgrade
Got a brand new iMac 27 2011 yesterday and did an update to 10.6.8 first before installing OSX Lion over it...
After restarting it just shows then the "prohibitive icon" on screen and shuts down after few seconds...
It won't even boot from an USB stick with the OSX Lion image on it...
Recovery partition works but can't do a reinstall from there....
So going back to 10.6.8 now...Just so you know I purchased brand new imac in July and did the same upgrade as you. I just installed Lion but did not have any issues. Only one concern overall though, it slowed down my new imac a bit. Not sure if there are settings or not but Leopard was faster than this. AppStore, iTunes are eating lot of memory and CPU util goes up.

LR 5 running extremely slow on a brand new iMac
Hi, I just got a brand new iMac (specs will be attached on bottom) because my old pc was slowing down. I downloaded the CC LR and PS trials so I can see how the machine works, figuring it would be way faster then my old one (2009 machine, specs also on bottom). Unfortunately, LR is running much slower on my new machine and I am quite frustrated since I only bought the iMac due to performance issues with my old machine. I am hoping that it has to do with the setup and am hoping someone here can help me figure it out, or I will have to return this machine.
I really wished that I could talk with customer service, but that seems to be not an option, which makes me quite disappointed with CC and Adobe. I have the Scott Kelby LR5 book and set preferences up the way he did, but maybe I am missing something that he is not talking about. I have used LR since version LR3 and have not had any issues with it on my other machine, besides it slowing down now that I got a camera that produces bigger files sizes than my old.
Please let me know what other info I should supply. Thanks so much!
old machine specs where LR5 is running much faster then on this brand new oneHI this has been well discussed on the Macrumours forums and here too. Seems to be an Adobe thing as other similar software does not do this.
may be down to LR not making use of the GPU or some other reason, I'm trying to make my mind up between buying LR 5 or buying Capture One a pro 8 Which is a fantastic piece of software which does make use of GPU.
i Was hoping LR6 would come out soon (March 2015) but apparently that is just a rumor with no substance.

I have a MacBook that is about 4 years old and a brand new iMac both are running the most up to date version of Lion. My old MacBook has no issues; however, my iMac loses its WiFi connection every time it goes to sleep. There are some discussions about this already out there but does anyone have a proven fix. This is very frustrating.
I was having the same problem for a long time. I tried everything but nothing seemed to make it stay connected. It was very frustrating. I just got a new Airport Extreme.....bang!.....all better. Problem gone.

Please HELP!! Brand New iMac- Won't turn on!!!!!
Someone please help!!
I JUST purchased a brand new iMac today, no more than 4 hours ago! I brought it home and followed the set up instructions and pressed the "power" button.
The fan comes on- it sounds weak to me, then it slows down, the little white light at the botton right hand side comes on, but the screen remains BLACK!!! Nothing comes on my screen!!
I am NEW to Apple, so I am CLUELESS as to why this is happening or what is going on- not to mention EXTREMELY AGGRAVATED that I cannot find any tech support AT ALL- not on the phone, not on chat, not anywhere!!! I have waited almost 2 yrs to purchase a new computer- I chose an iMac, and this is the crap I get.
Please help!!!!
iMac 17inch Mac OS X (10.4.4) NewDawn,
Having suffered my share of 'difficult' products, I can understand your frustration. This is compounded by the financial restraint you exhibited for 2 years of saving. Your experience should not just be good, it should be exceptional.
There may be something wrong with your machine. The white light is on when the machine is booting or the display is sleeping. The light will softly flash on and off while the machine is sleeping.
The fan should be as quiet as possible, to the point of being a low rumble/whisper or not even heard. It sounds like your computer is stuck in a startup mode.
Calling Apple will get this issue resolved to your satisfaction in a timely manner. If you state the issues they should be more than helpful. You can try a few things for now.
Press and hold the power button on your machine for a while and see if it reboots.
If you look on this page:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303124
You will notice the instructions for zapping the pram (keys held down when you press the power button and held continuously) : Press Option-Command-P-R until you hear two beeps (release)
Try that next. Your machine should be restarting when you toggle the power button.
Another quick thing you may want to try is shutting down the machine, unplugging everything (every cable including the power cable), waiting about 2 minutes, then plugging in just the keyboard and mouse and starting the machine with the power button.
Good Luck,

Why is my brand new iMac 27' display dark?
I just bought a brand new iMac and this is what the screen looks like:
at full brightness:

At lowest brightness the glitch is not even visible:

I've taken screenshots and the darkening/glitch doesn't appear in the screenshots so it must be the display itself.
It's the brand new 3.4 ghz intel core i7...
Is there a firmware update or something for this?
Ie, is it a known issue or do I just have a deffective display?
Thanks in advance for any help.It may be that if you call Apple Customer Support, the Tech may be able to give you a "fix" over the phone or at least help you diagnose the problem. If you have to ship it back, try to arrange with Apple to have a delivery service (i.e. UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc.) pick up the computer at your home with insured shipping both ways.
Try to work with the Apple Customer Support. -
My brand new iMac keeps dropping wifi connections
At least 2-3 times daily my brand new Imac drops the connection to my home network- I have tried to reboot my airport extreme- my ipad and iphone and nest thermostat do not have these issues of dropped connections. As soon as I click the pale wireless signal at the top of the imac, it finds my home network and joins again, but it is a drag to have to redo this every time I want to stream music around the house or check my mail. Any Ideas? All of my updates are current. Thanks
This has helped some although, unfortunately, not everybody:

How do I set Preview to be the default program for opening PDF files while in Safari? Currently every time I open one, it defaults to Acrobat. I have looked at the internet plugin folder (as suggested in another post), but that file does not exist.
