TS2755 I don't want to get text messages on my ipad2. How do I turn it off?

I've just got my first iPad and I didn't want text messages showing up on the screen. In fact I'm not bothered to have text messages on here at all. My iPhone is ok for that. Can anyone help me take them off or at least stop them showing on the screen.. Thankyou

If you wish to turn off messaging altogether: Settings app > Messages > iMessage [turn OFF]
If you wish to keep messaging on, but eliminate notifications and alerts: Settings App > Notification Center > Alert Style [set to None] and Alerts > Show in Notifications Center [Turn OFF] and Show on Lock screen [Turn OFF].
