TS2755 i message and cell number?

Can I disactivate my phone number in I message and just use i message with email?
I'm worried for security reasons that perhaps too many people will be able to see my phone number in some directory I am not aware of.

Hey bill.rizzo2,
Thanks for the question. I understand your phone number is missing on your iPad as an option for iMessage. The following article provides steps to resolve this issue:
iOS and OS X: Link your phone number and Apple ID for use with FaceTime and iMessage

Phone number missing on iPad or iPod touch
If your phone number isn't listed on an iPod touch or iPad, follow these steps:
1. Update to the latest version of iOS.
2. Verify that you're using the same Apple ID that you're using on your iPhone.
3. On your iPad or iPod touch, sign out of your Apple ID in the following locations:
    - Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
    - Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
4. Sign in to your Apple ID with FaceTime and iMessage.
If your phone number still isn't listed, follow these steps:
1. Sign out of your Apple ID on all iOS devices, including your iPhone, in the following locations:
    - Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
    - Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
2. Sign in to your Apple ID on your iPhone.
3. When activation is complete, your Apple ID and all verified email addresses should be visible in Settings > Messages > Receive At and Settings > FaceTime.
4. Sign in to your Apple ID on your other iOS devices.
Thanks,
Matt M.

When I receive and answer e-mail, the correspondence is usually "nested" "behind"  the original message, and the number of replies, etc. are indicated with a number next to the original message in the inbox.  How can I change the mail settings so that every reply is listed individually in the inbox instead of having them "stacked" behind the original message.  I'm afraid I might accidentially overlook messages the way they are handled now.

Somebody here will correct me if I'm wrong, but what you have to do is go into Settings, Mail/Contacts/Calendars and under Mail, turn off "Organize by Thread".  I think that will make each message show individually.

  • HT4061 iPad stolen - how do I wipe personal text messages out? Synced with my apple account and cell number but not showing in iCloud.

My iPad was stolen - I just synced it with my cellphone number and updated to the new OS the day before it's stolen. Why is the iPad not showing up in my iCloud account so that I can locate it and wipe the data?
I know that the iPad is likely still full of my text messages because I tried deleting them on my phone thinking it would also delete them from the iPad. Instead, the iPad re-populated all if the text messages I deleted back in to my iPhone.
Help! I don't want these people having my personal text messages. How can I wipe an iPad/break the sync with my phone when I don't have the iPad anymore?

What To Do If Your iDevice or Computer Is Lost Or Stolen
    iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad
If you activated Find My Phone before it was lost or stolen, you can track it only if Wi-Fi is enabled on the device. What you cannot do is track your device using a serial number or other identifying number. You cannot expect Apple or anyone else to find your device for you. You cannot recover your loss unless you insure your device for such loss. It is not covered by your warranty.
If your iPhone, iPod, iPod Touch, or iPad is lost or stolen what do you do? There are things you should have done in advance - before you lost it or it was stolen - and some things to do after the fact. Here are some suggestions:

My text messages are automatically going to my wife's phone and vice versa.  I think I mistakenly added her cell number to my iCloud account.  How do I fix this?

Settings > Messages > Send and Received > Uncheck any number/email that does not belong to the device
Note: The little blue (>) will give you an option to remove the number/email from the device
Note: Check this setting on any device(s) using the same Apple ID

  • Why can my daughter use my cell number on her iPad for FaceTime and I message

Why can my daughter use my cell number on her iPad for FaceTime and I message

That's an account-level setting on the iPad.  Presumably you use your cell number as your Facetime account credentials on your phone, and the iPad is linked to your account as well?  You can go into the Facetime settings on the iPad and change what accounts can be reached on the iPad or used to make Facetime calls.  Same goes for Messages.

  • How do I set up a new phone number for messaging and facetime on my iPad?

My iPad has it's own phone number through Verizon.  Before I knew this, I had already set up messages to use my iPhone number.  Now I can't figure out how to set up the iPad phone number for messages and facetime on the iPad.

  • I purchased iphone4s recently and in phone section my cell number is showing unkmown and down there its showing vf es services why and how to remove ?

i purchase recently iphone 4s and its not showing my cell number and further down there its appearing SIM PIN AREA  vf es services
could any one can help me how to remove this carrier  vf es services ?
also i think due to this my cell's roaming data is on then only internet is working.....

Open contacts list, favourites should be at the top of list with stars by them, select  the one you want to unfavourite, long hold and a pop up menu gives you the options to call-send message-Remove from favourites_send as contact card-Delete-or Mark. Chose the option to remove from favourites and they won't show on home screen any more !

  • Blackberry malfunction--why is my phone dialing itself (and it actually rings as if it is a caller calling in but my Cell number shows)

two weeks ago my Blackberry did something quite strange
without any person nearby or pushing any buttons the phone rang--I looked to see who it was, and it said my full name and it displayed my full cell number.
I did not answer it. It rang the full number of rings, then the phone stopped, there was no message left. I called my network Customer service and they could not explain this, except to ask me if I use Bluetooth. I do not and it is not enabled on my phone.
It happened again today, with no person nearby who could have pushed any buttons.
Do I have a virus?  I have had Blackberry models for years, and never had this happen to any handset.
I do not download/upload anything except Blackberry updates.
I also never dial my own number to access voicemail, I jsut dial 123 for Vmail.
So can anyone explain this?  Much appreciated.

The phone doesn't hav a virus, but that is strange.
    Do a battery pull first.
Do you have yourself as a contact?  if so, delete your info for a bit to see what happens if this call happens again.
if this happens again, I recommend you answer to see who is calling.  That way its logged with the carrier so they can do some investigation, trace, etc.

  • I am receiving the following error message when attempting to text to a valid mobile/cell number in Peru.

I am receiving the following error message when attempting to text to a valid Mobile/Cell number in Peru...Error Invalid Number. Please re-send using a valid 10 digit mobile number or valid short code.
I am able to receive texts from the number in question, but not able to text back to the person sending.
The number is a valid 9 digit cell/mobile number.

If you're sending as SMS (green bubble) then this is a carrier issue and not an issues with your phone.
To text internationally, you nearly always need to include the country code before the rest of the phone number. If you are doing so and still have issues, contact your carrier.

Turn off iMessage on the new iPad.
Delete the iCloud account on the iPad, and enter the iCloud acct you used to have for the iPad 2.
    That should do it.

  • I can no longer speak and woud like to use my Ipad Air 2 WiFi   Cellular to serve as a texting device to replace my phone.  Will using my cell number and Talkatone allow me to text and receive text as I do on my phone?

A laryngectomy has left me unable to speak over my cell.  I still need to communicate via text and would like to use one device.  I have an Ipad Air 2 WiFi + Cellular that I use to write messages on and would like to know if adding the ap Talkatone and using my cell number will allow me to use my Ipad as my one communication device and not have to carry my phone any more.

        hedrickwireless1,
I am so sorry to hear that you have lost your voice. I know how important it is still be able to communicate. I apologize as the application Talkatone is a third party application we would not be able to provide details into how the application functions. Please reach out to the app developer for details regarding the application. You can access the developer information under the application details in iTunes.
