I found a post with this solution that worked for me - .Do a backup, then download ibackupbot. It lets you look into the contents of that backup. Look in system files>mediadomain>library>sms>attachments. I found a ton of huge files related to long deleted texts. ibackupbot let me delete all that old crap. I then restored the phone with that now modifec backup and Bingo! freed up 9 GB. No problems.
But note, if you are not technically inclined you probaly don't want to be digging around and deleting back up files. You delete the wrong thing and you could jack up your phone badly. Be careful.

You will not be able to see what version you are running until the iPad is activated. It will be in Settings>General>About >Version when you can get to the settings app.
The slider bar that you are describing sounds like the screen lock side switch and that has no bearing on setting up the iPad or connecting to WiFi.
Why don't you try rebooting your router? Unplug it for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again and see if the iPad will recognize and join the network. -

I recieved a gotality heart monitor accessory and my iPhone doesn't read the accessory when attached to phone. The accessory works on my friends iPhone 4, so the accessory works. A reset may help. Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off buttons for approximately 15-20 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. When the logo appears, release both buttons.

Open iTunes on computer. Connect iPhone to computer. If the iPhone is recognized in Recovery Mode, then Restore the Firmware. If not recognized, then hold both Home and Power Buttons until the iPhone is recognized in Recovery Mode. Usually takes about 20 seconds of holding both buttons. Restore the iPhone Firmware.

Try restarting it. If this does not work, then hard restart it which is holding the power and home button until the product ***** off. If this does not help either, plug it into the computer and restore it. Make sure you back up the device before you restore it though! I just bought a new iphone 5S and once turned on and pushed the button restore from Icloud, I'm stil stuck in this section i can't do anything plus i turned it off and on again and still not working, please provide me with a solution very urgently!!

An iPhone backup to a computer via iTunes stores the photos in a backup file that is only meant to be be used if needed to restore back to the phone. There is 3rd party "extractor" software available but otherwise the photos are not directly viewable.
The backup via iTunes was a good idea and your Camera Roll photos should be there and should be able to be restored to your new phone. However if it was me I wouldn't rely on that alone. I would also import the photos to a computer where you can see and verify that you have a copy. That is a good idea at any time (not just when you know you might need it). Any phone can be lost, broken, suffer hardware issues, etc at any time and lose all data on it. I have had 6 replacement Iphone 4s and still my issue has not been resolved. What more must I do to have a telephone that can receive phone calls without me having to check it every 20 mins to make sure I have network service. Renewing the simcard has also not worked.
I was thinking that Kabel Deutschland might be the problem but my wife has a Iphone 3GS on the same network and she never has the no service problem. Also when I said I have had 6 replacements yes they all had at one time or another this issue with no service but they had other issues like not switching off or bright spots on the screen etc etc. Also the sim card has been replaced twice
