TS2755 No alert tone when messages are received

The alert tone is no longer sounding when a SMS or iMessage is received. Is there something I can do?

Hi Gelis,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Try these troubleshooting steps if you are not hearing alert sounds on your iPhone 5:
Verify that the volume is set to a level you would normally be able to hear.
Ensure that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack or the dock connector.
If the iPhone is in a protective case, make sure that the speaker port isn't blocked by the case.
Make sure that the speaker and dock port aren't clogged with debris. If necessary, clean it with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush. Carefully and gently brush away any debris.
If an audio issue occurs when using a specific application, try testing other applications to see if the issue persists.
If the iPhone is paired with a Bluetooth headset or car kit:
Try turning off Bluetooth.
If you experience difficulties with the Bluetooth feature, follow these troubleshooting steps.
Restart the iPhone.
If restarting doesn't fix the issue, ensure that your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS.
If the issue is not resolved after restoring the iPhone software, please contact Apple Support.

  • Notification alert tone when there are no notifications

Hi, just updated to 5.1.1 now when my phone is locked I get repeated notification tones but when I unlock phone there are no notifications or txt messages. It's driving me nuts.

I think I have found what it is but I don't know how to fix it. It seems to be going off when my mobile signal (phone carrier) drops off and then again when it rejoins the network. Thus is so infuriating I have a couple of blank spots in my house and it goes off every time I walk into them, and in various places at work like meeting rooms corridors etc. I really need to turn this off or I'll have to bin the phone it's making it impossible to have it without it being on silent. Then I miss all my calls and texts. I would never have updated had I known.

  • Why can't I get alert tones when I send or receive email.  I checked Sounds and volumes are at max.

Have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the iPod and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

  • Do you know what it means when messages are blue on iphone, do you know what it means when messages are blue on iphone

do you know what it means when messages are blue on iphone

Green messages are normal SMS messages and consume your carrier's SMS plan messages. Blue messages are those sent via the new iMessage service and are sent over a wifi or data connection. They do not count toward SMS limits, and can be sent to anyone with iMessage activated on any iDevice - iPhone, iPad, or iPod.

  • My sent text messages are received, but are from my email address rather than my phone number since updating to iOS 7.

Fellow iPhone users have complained that my text messages are not longer associated with my phone number. Instead, they see my texts messages as from my email address.
The problem started after I updated to iOS 7. How can I resolve this? I would rather not continue to confuse friends/family when they receive a text message from an email address they do not recognize when it was in fact sent from my phone.
    Thank you.

    Thank you!
I think it's odd that the default setting is now your email rather than your phone, however... Very confusing for me and other iPhone users I know.

  • HT4976 why some messages are received and others are read ?

I have an iPhone and I've been sending imessage to other people with iPhone.  Some messages are delivered and some are read.  What is the difference and why is this happening ?

Depends on the receiver. They can set their read receipt to on and you will get read on your end when they actually open up the message app to read it. If they have read receipts set to off then all you will get is a delivered even if they read it.

  • Alert tone for messages

I was wondering if there was a way to make messages vibrate instead of a tone. When I click on 'none' it doesn't do anything but I don't want the alert tone... It's annoying when I'm at work... Help please!!!!

You really should read over the manual. But the quickest way to do this is go to settings, sounds. You can change the message tone to silent and vibrate.

  • My outgoing text messages are received as voicemail messages with iOS5... WHY?

I just upgraded my iPhone4 to the iOS5. Now whenever I send texts to my husbands iPhone4, they are received as voicemails not text messages. Why is that and how can I fix it?? When I went through the setup questions on my iPhone after the update, I just kept my iPhone under hubby's appleID instead of changing it to my own appleID. Should I delete his appleID from my phone and put my appleID on instead? Never had this problem with the previous OS...

May have fixed this but not sure how. I'm not sure if it was a problem associated with the iOS5 upgrade or having two iPhones with the same appleID.

  • Question about iMessage retrieval when messages are visible with "Search" feature

    Hello everyone,
Today when I got off of work, I noticed that over 1,000 iMessages from my girlfriend had been deleted, dating as far back as when I purchased my iPhone 4 in June. Of course, I am in the process of freaking out, as we had some great conversations in there that I would like to save. The last time I backed up my iPhone was in September.
The thing is, when I search for her name with the iPhone "Search" function, all of those conversations appear as if they should be in the iMessage list, but they are not. Is there anyway for me to exploit this and restore these iMessages onto my phone?
I'm an Air Force pilot in Texas and don't get to see her much, so I would love to be able to save these messages. I also went to school for electrical engineering, and I'm stumped.
tl;dr iMessages accidentally deleted but still appear in the iPhone "Search" function - is there anyway to restore them?

Unfortunately, not that I'm aware of.  The cached data you are seeing in Spotlight search is separate from the messages data on your phone, and you can't restore from one to the other.
Messages are, however, included in the iPhone backup (whether done with iTunes or iCloud).  If these messages were on your phone when you last backed up, restoring to the entire backup should recover them.

  • QueueBrowser doesn't work when messages are in the queue

We are attempting to list off the messages in a JMQ 2.0 queue while our application is running. The code currently creates a new Connection & Session and then a new QueueBrowser on each queue. Following that, we get an Enumeration of the messages in the queue and print them out.
When no messages are in the queue, this approach works fine and prints out all the relevent information. However, when a message is in the queue, the QueueBrowser just hangs. I've tried on transacted and non transacted QueueSessions and the same thing happens.
Is this known behavior and is it possible to work around it?
    Thanks,
    Mike

Try restarting the Mac with the ethernet cable plugged in and with a live device attached ('live device' = another Mac, a modem, a printer, or a hub/switch/router, which has been powered on).

  • My alert tones I purchased are on itunes but won't sync back to my iphone.

I tried to uncheck the alerts and then sync... then re-checked them and sync'd again but that only fixed my ringtone problem. Still cant see my alert tones... it's so frustrating to pay .99 for something and have it disappear... They are on my itunes under ringtones... and also in alerts some of my ringtones werent showing up. This happened once before and I re-purchased the alerts but to have them on itunes tells me... there is a way to get them back to my iphone. Can someone help me... I am usually pretty tech savvy but this is perplexing me.

Hope you don't mind me crashing your thread but I've ripped a movie and my DVD settings are the same as yours, I followed instructions on the Handbrake website and my picture settings were 320 x 100 and something (it was widescreen) and it still doesn't work. Says it cannot play on my iPod. It's a MP4 format and the H.264 setting as you have too. Don't know what I did wrong. It plays in iTunes and on Quicktime.
I'm trying to 'convert' it right now in iTunes but not holding my breath

  • Changing the alert tone when "find my phone" is activated?

Is there a way to change the alert tone on iphone 4s when the "find my phone" is activated? The one it plays is kind of weak. TIA!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    I don't believe there is.

  • Delete Saved messages when messages are already deleted.

I deleted all conversations, but yet when you go to Settings, General, and then usage I still see 2.8Gb of "saved Messages" in memory used.  How?  Thanks for any help.

Apparently after more digging, I am not the only one with this issue.  There is NO WAY to delete these if you are restoring from past points.  The only way to do so is to start from scratch and loose everything or manually put in after deleting the back up.  This is nonsense on Apple's part.
Firstly you DO NOT have to do a factory reset / wipe device, it is simply not required to get the space back!!
Mine had 3GB and I just got rid of it all, here is how:
    METHOD ONE:
    Make a backup in iTunes
    open iBackupBot (Google it)
    Go to the relevant backup
Click on Multimedia File Manager and click on the other Multimedia files tab
Sort by filename by clicking the Filename tab
Find MediaDomain/Library/SMS/Attachments and highlight all of them, then press delete.  You can also click to export to a folder of your choice, if you want to save them that is.
    Then go to System Files>MediaDomain>Library>SMS>Attachments
They will be all listed here, highlight them all and press delete
Then just restore that backup using iTunes!
Tadaa! Space recovered, your messages are still there but without the attachments!  METHOD TWO:
Backup your device in iTunes and then to iCloud
Go to Settings>iCloud and toggle Documents & Data to OFF
Then do a 2nd backup to iTunes and iCloud
Then restore the device from iCloud and the message attachments should be gone, turn Documents & Data back on again in the settings
PLEASE NOTE: Method two is a much longer process but some users may feel more comfortable with this method.
P.S You may want to make two backups in case you get any of the above steps wrong, but it is simple to follow the above and not do anything wrong!
P.P.S You could also just go through every single conversation and delete the attachments one by one, but if you have hundreds or thousands of attachments, this will take a VERY LONG TIME!!!
