hi my son has 4th gen ipod touch that has a white screen, tried to reboot but wont turn off also it isn recogonised on itunes libuary. thanks cheryl

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

White screen at restart

This seems to come up, but mine's a little different.
If I restart from the menu of my 17", it goes to the white screen and stays there. When I turn it off with the power button and turn it back on, it boots up fine. If I shut down from the menu and start again, it boots fine. When I run Cocktail pilot, it restarts and boots fine.
I have run AppleJack with no reported problems. I reinstalled 10.4.7 and combo update to 10.4.10. The only new variables are my daughter's new iPod and the Safari, iTunes, and Quicktime updates.
Any ideas?

Well.. this is my problem.. I got a new imac, the aluminium one, a few days ago.. I turned it on yesterday (saturday) and install all the programs that i need.. Everything seemed to work fine, and suddenly, while i was in the internet something appear on the screen saying something as i need to turn off my mac, pressing the start button.. well.. of course, i did.. and since then i cannot access to my mac, i turned on and a white screen appears and i heard something like an alarm.. ....
Im not very happy, i admit.
Can anyone help me?

White screen on restart

I have a 27" iMac 3.5 GHz Core i7 - 8 GB Ram 1600 MHz DDR3 with a 3 TB Fusion drive. I downloaded Yosemite with some difficulty this evening. I ran the install and when it wanted to restart a white screen came up for over 10 minutes. Should it take that long to run a restart to install Yosemite? What should I expect to see and for how long?

I believe this is hardware related issue but how do I find out without taking to the Genius bar?

Showing hidden files white screen upon restart

I put in the command to show hidden files and restarted my iMac. It only shows a white screen. Completely blank. How do I fix it? It runs on Lion and has a Time Machine backup.

Take each of these steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved.
Step 1
The first step in dealing with a boot failure is to secure your data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since your last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to boot. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
a. Boot into the Recovery partition, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
b. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
c. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
Step 2
Press and hold the power button until the power shuts off. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to boot, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use a different keyboard and/or mouse, if those devices are wired. If you can boot now, one of the devices you disconnected, or a combination of them, is causing the problem. Finding out which one is a process of elimination.
If you've booted from an external storage device, make sure that your internal boot volume is selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
Step 3
Boot in safe mode. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
When you boot in safe mode, it's normal to see a dark gray progress bar on a light gray background. If the progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or if the system shuts down automatically while the progress bar is displayed, your boot volume is corrupt and the drive is probably malfunctioning. In that case, go to Step 5.
If you can boot and log in now, empty the Trash, and then open the Finder Info window on your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Check that you have at least 9 GB of available space, as shown in the window. If you don't, copy as many files as necessary to another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion isn't complete until you empty the Trash again. Do this until the available space is more than 9 GB. Then reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
If the boot process hangs again, the problem is likely caused by a third-party system modification that you installed. Post for further instructions.
Step 4
Sometimes a boot failure can be resolved by resetting the NVRAM.
Step 5
Launch Disk Utility in Recovery mode (see Step 1.) Select your startup volume, then run Repair Disk. If any problems are found, repeat until clear. If Disk Utility reports that the volume can't be repaired, the drive has malfunctioned and should be replaced. You might choose to tolerate one such malfunction in the life of the drive. In that case, erase the volume and restore from a backup. If the same thing ever happens again, replace the drive immediately.
This is one of the rare situations in which you should also run Repair Permissions, ignoring the false warnings it may produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then reboot as usual.
Step 6
Reinstall the OS. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
Step 7
Repeat step 6, but this time erase the boot volume in Disk Utility before installing. The system should automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant. Follow the prompts to transfer your data from a Time Machine or other backup.
Step 8
This step applies only to a pre-2013 Mac Pro tower, not to any other model. A dead logic-board battery can cause a gray screen at boot. Typically the boot failure will be preceded by loss of the startup disk and system clock settings. See the user manual for replacement instructions.
Step 9
If you get this far, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.

Blue screen wont restart

Then when you restart, with a wired keyboard and mouse hold down the mouse button during the startup to eject the disk.
Now if the iMac still will not startup normally, pop in the Leopard Disk, open Disk Utility and repair your Startup Volume from the Install Disk. Another option is to hold the Option Key and startup from your backup ??? External HD / Time Machine or Bootable Clone and repair the Internal HD from there.

G5 Cannot get past white screen - Keeps restarting

I installed a new GPU and HD yesterday, and I used time machine to restore to my old HD, it went fine and finished and asked me to restart. I restarted, and now it will restart - load on the "white screen" for about 20 seconds - then it restarts and does it all over again.
Why is this, and what can I do about it?

Always best to do one thing at a time and make sure each works. Also, reset nvram any time you change hardware, swap memory around, install GPU, even swapping hard drives.
I assume your profile for Tiger 10.4.x is out of date and the system you did this on has 10.5.5 now.
I've always used SuperDuper and not T/M, the most often cause for problem is permissions needed to be repaired; Ignore Ownership was on, when it needs to be off.
And this flashed GPU worked before the restore fine?

Macbook Pro white screen on RESTART only

I have MBP Early 2011 model i7 with dedicated graphics.
I had been running OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard until last week, which I know is completely outdated but I was forced to keep it due to FCP7 compatibility.
Anyway, finally I installed Yosemite (fresh install) and all worked out okay. But whenever I restart the machine it will hang on white screen after the apple logo appears. Then when I shut it down by holding down the power button and start from shut off, it boots fine. It only happens when I "Restart". Shut down and start is okay. Then I thought it might be a problem with Yosemite so I then wiped out the machine again and installed Mavericks, but same problem. Then I went back even further and installed Mountain Lion, but same restart problem.
Thinking this is hard drive issue since it still have the stock 500GB drive, I went and bought Samsung 850 Evo SSD 250GB and reloaded Mavericks, but it's giving me the same issue. I tried zapping the PRAM and SMC reset, ran Disk Utility repair, hardware diagnostics, pretty much everything and turned out fine.
What could be the issue? Memory? GPU? Everything except the new SSD is stock Apple including the memory.
Again, to summarize the issue, I only get white screen after the startup Apple logo disappears when I RESTART, but it boots up fine when I shut down and start. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
I'm struggling with installing on my laptop (Acer Aspire 5532). After it completes loading "archiso.img" I get a white screen for about 3 seconds then a reboot, back to the original menu.
I assumed, given that it was a white screen, that it was an issue with the resolution so I've tried "nomodeset" and "vga=782" (and other vga values) but I end up with the same result, I'm guessing it is a kernel issue.
Note: only one of my RAM sticks is properly recognised.
Laptop specs:
Bios: InsydeH2O Version V1.11
CPU: AMD Athlon x2 L310 ~1.2GHz
Memory: Samsung 2048MB RAM DDR2 single-channel 241.3MHz Part number: M4 70T5663EH3-CF7
MOBO: Acer Aspire 5532. Chipset: AMD 780G.
GPU: ATi Radeon HD 3200. 256MB 500MHz

HDD has 4 partitions: 100MB NTFS boot flag, 413.12GB NTFS (Win7 OS), 19.53GB ext4 (for future Arch OS), 33.01GB ext4 (for future Arch storage).

Did you verify the integrity of the iso before doing anything? Since you are on Windows, download this software from here: http://www.winmd5.com/download/winmd5free.zip. Open the software then browser to the arch iso. Next, if you have downloaded the April snapshot paste this into the last text box : ae8caf8cd356dfcc24a4b645fd815185. Then click verify. If both the values match, We will see from there. If it doesn't you have a corrupted iso. Also do mention if you are doing it via usb or cd. And tell us what method you are using to get the arch linux iso on your usb.

IMac intel snow leopard white screen must restart?

since i installed snow leopart my iMac frozse with a white screen. I pressed and held the power button and the computer restared ans seems OK. I ran the Hardware test from the install disc and no problems were fond. What is wrong?

It soumds like nothing is wrong now, but there isn't much we can say without more info from you, like what you were doing when the iMac froze, if this happened just once, etc.

Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
No data is lost due to a reset.

Random white screen then restarts

While I'm using my 2011 iMac, the screen will randomly turn white and then eventually black as if the computer is shutting down. I can hear the startup sound as if its trying to reboot itself but it only gets to the gray loading screen, turns black and then tries to start up again. I manually shut it down to get it out of this loop. When I turn it on again, it loads just fine but after a couple of minutes of surfing the web, the whole process will start all over again.
I've update to the latest OS (10.10.1). Sometimes when I reboot, it gives me a graphics card error message or a split screen version of my desktop. I've tried a hardware reset, safeboot, PRAM reset and none of them seem to make a difference. The safe boot loaded with graphics missing from the desktop.
Is anyone else having this problem? I would really appreciate any help with this.

White screen wont reset

My facebook app went wonky and froze up. I tried turning the ipod off and the screen went all white. I have tried holding down the round button and the top button at the same time for more than 10 seconds. No results. No results from plugging it into a charger or itunes. The screen is just white, on, and the device is getting very warm.

All you can do is to let the battery fully drain. After charging for an hour, try the reset and connect to your computer and try to resiore via iTunes as necessary. If still problem you likely have a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is necessary.
