You cannot. No Japanese carrier offers unlocking. You'll need to sell the phone and buy one you can actually use outside of Japan.

If you did not edit the Cellular Data Network settings on your iPhone and you are unable to use Cellular Data Network services, try turning off and then turning on iPhone. If the issue persists, contact your carrier about the availability and provisioning of these services on your wireless account.

  • If I turn Cellular Data OFF on Iphone4S (and Enable3G too) should it still be connecting to my home Wi-Fi?

I know there's heaps on this topic overall, but just want straight answer please - so if I turn Cellular Data OFF and Enable 3G OFF on Iphone4S, should I still be receiving emails via my Home Wi-fi...curious that's all doesnt make sense to me!

Thanks for your reply...I am worried about connection issues overall I guess, and that one popped into my head as a result...I was recently charged $75 from phone provider when my son went on YouTube for a mere 20 minutes (after useage data had been already used) (this may not relate in any way, however being a new user I am just a bit freaked out about what can/cannot happen on this darn phone lol!

Why and how do I fix this?  When I go into cellular data and view account it says my ipad is activated and ready to go.  What gives???
It was working fine up until I upgraded the OS which I hadn't done in many versions so the ipad was not working as well as it should.  Now it is searching for the network.

        Hello noodles074!
Let's get your device working again! It's possible that your device just needs to be reprovisioned on our network. Please go to Settings>General>Reset>Subscriber Services>Reprovision Account. This may take several minutes. After allowing about 5 minutes for completion, please power your iPad off and back on, and test it again. Let us know if this takes care of it!
    Thank you,

  • How Do I Stop the "Cellular Data is Turned Off..." Pop-up?

RE:  "Cellular Data is Turned Off for..." pop-up on iOS 8.0.2 (iPhone 5s)
I have set cellular data ON for some apps and OFF for others.  BY CHOICE.  So, I am suffering EVERY DAY with a pop-up telling me my "Cellular Data is Turned Off for..." for all of the applications I turn on where I HAVE PURPOSEFULLY CHOSEN TO TURN OFF THE CELLULAR DATA.
I NEVER want to see this pop-up again.  And, I do not wish to turn on Cellular Data for most of my apps.  BY CHOICE.  Stop popping me!  Somebody please answer this question.  I absolutely hate this pop-up.  I am often in situations without my glasses - and this thing just drives me crazy!  Can't see the right answer....push the wrong side "OK" versus "Settings".  I hate it.  I know what apps I want to have cellular data and which one's I do not!   Stop the pop-up.  Or lose me to another brand of phone.  Period.
Please, person with lots of "levels" - answer this question!  Help me turn the pop-up off.  I am not going to compromise other essential things (like turn off bluetooth or just check "all" for cellular data service and know that it will go away.  I want cellular data service for only a few things AND I never want to see this pop-up again.

  • My iphone 5 uses cellular data even when in WIFI mode.  I have an iPhone 3 and 4s and both of those appear to be OK.  How do I stop this?

My iPhone 5 on iOS 6 uses 4x to 5x the data that was being used on my iPhone 4s.  The old 4s and 3g (differnt numbers) seem to be OK.  AT&T is getting rich off of the cellular data when in WIFI mode.  How do I stop this?

    Hello there MyAppleHasAWorm,
I was researching what might be causing the excessive data usage on the iPhone 5 and found some info that should help reign in the data. It is from our iPhone Troubleshooting Assistant found here http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/phone/#section_1
Here is section 1 to get you started. I recommend sections 1, 3, and 5 if needed.
    Restart iPhone
To restart iPhone, first turn iPhone off by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until a red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider and iPhone will turn off after a few moments.
Next, turn iPhone on by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Is iPhone not responding? To reset iPhone, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If your device does not turn on or displays a red battery icon, try recharging next
    All the best,
    Sterling

  • HT204023 What is 'sim pin' under Cellular data on my iPad mini?  How do I use that and change cards from one country to another?

I have a new ipad mini with retina display, and cellular capability.
I've learned how to set up an account and use it in the US.  I'm now traveling internationally and need to learn about changing the sim card.
My first question is about the notation under 'settings', Cellular Data, SIM PIN.  Under SIM PIN, there is an option of turning on 'sim pin' and then entering a PIN to lock the SIM.
What does SIM PIN mean in the first place?
Where does the PIN number come from?
    Thankx.
    SusanFrances

A SIM PIN, also referred to sometimes as a PUK Code is like a PIN number for your SIM card (just like your ATM Card).  Since your SIM card has your cellular account on it and can be typically removed from one device and put into another, you can lock the SIM Card with a SIM PIN if you choose.  If you activate the SIM PIN feature and forget your SIM PIN when you try to re-activate your device or a new device in the future using the same SIM Card, you may have to contact you carrier to get a new SIM Card. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1316
As far as changing the SIM Cards out because you want to use a new carrier, you can remove the SIM card fomr the old carrier and put in the SIM  card form the new carrier. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5163
I hope this helps clear things up.

  • Cellular Data for Podcasts pop-up - how to get rid of (iOS7)

I am downloading all of my podcasts to my iPhone 4 (iOS7) through iTunes on my iMac. Before iOS7, I did this and listened to them in the Music app - it was all really straightforward. iOS7 forces me to use the Podcast app. I'm still not sure if I'd doing the sync/download from iTunes correctly as sometimes the episodes appear on the phone and sometimes they don't (and I'm the one who usually figures these things out and tells my other family members how to do it), but that's a whole different story.
Because I do not want any podcasts automatically downloaded to the phone, especially over Verizon's network, I turned off Settings -> Podcasts -> Use Cellular Data. I have also turned off Sync Subscriptions.
Whenever I am not on a WiFi network and I unlock my phone while it is in the Podcast app, I get a popup that says:
Cellular Data is Turned Off for "Podcasts"
You can turn on cellular data for this app in Settings.
And I have to "OK" it to make it disappear. It is getting annoying. I know cellular data is off. I did it on purpose.
My goal is to get rid of the popup but I've had no luck yet after tweaking a few settings. I don't know exactly what Sync Subscriptions does, but one educated guess is that as long as I have that off, no podcasts will be downloaded to the phone unless I do so via iTunes on my iMac. Is that correct, and would that allow me to turn on Use Cellular Data (to get rid of the popup)?
    Any other ideas about this?
And if someone can explain all of the different permutations of how to manage Podcasts between iTunes and an iDevice (or even when a computer isn't in the picture), I'm all ears.

None of the tips suggested above worked for me. I still had that infernal message about connecting to the internet. But I have apparently (crossing my fingers) found a solution which works for me.
In the good old days I had iOS6 on my iPhone 5 with iTunes 10. I created a Podcast playlist in iTunes and I could cheerfully listen to it on the Music app driving around Europe (I'm on a UK tariff) with no 3G or wifi.
I now use iOS7 on my iPhone 5, syncing with iTunes 11 on Mavericks. I can now listen to the same Podcast Playlist with the Podcast app, wifi and Cellular Data turned off, Cellular Data and Notifications turned on everywhere and not a trace of the warning message. All the Podcasts play in sequence with no problem. Victory?!
The problem turned out to be in the syncing with iTunes. Although the Podcasts, whether in the Playlist or not, appeared to be syncing, in fact they were not imported fully into the phone. Thus when I selected a Podcast to play, the full file wasn't actually on the phone and so it wanted to stream it.
My solution was achieved by doing the following.
    1. Create Podcast playlist in iTunes and drag some podcasts into it.
    2. Wiith phone connected to iTunes device, highlight the iPhone in the left hand column and swivel the little arrow to expand the list of contents. You can then check the actual contents of each section on the phone. Music, Movies, TV Shows, Podcasts etc.
    3. Hit iPhone in left hand column. Hit Podcasts tab at top of window. Uncheck everything in and out of sight and Apply/Sync to remove all Podcasts from phone.
    4. Hit Podcasts section of expanded iPhone contents list in left hand column. That should be empty. Similarly there should be no sign of the Podcast playlist below it.
    5. Now return to the Podcasts syncing section. Check 'Sync Podcasts'.
    6. Scroll to bottom of page to 'Include Episodes from Playlists' and check the Podcast playlist you created. Apply/Sync.
    7. Now check that the Podcasts in the playlist are in the phone by hitting the Podcast label in the expanded contents list. It should match the contents of the Playlist which should also have appeared in the list of playlists in the phone.
    8. With WiFi and Cellular Data turned off, go to Podcast app and, if you're as lucky as me, you should be able to play any of the Podcasts in the playlist without that infernal message being displayed. Displaying 1 or 2 fingers at your mobile provider is optional!

    Hello Sophie59
You should be able to see two different tabs when setting up the email if you go to Other > Add Mail Account. Once you enter in the email address and password, you should be at the next screen to provide more details about the email as far as incoming and outgoing servers and at the top there will be a blue section to add it in as a POP or IMAP email account. Check out the article below for further troubleshooting and emails setup options.

  • How do I get my iPhone to stop turning on cellular data for apps on its own?

I have tried resetting on the iphone and resetting all settings. Nothing seems to be working. So far the only improvement is that my iphone stopped turning on cellular data for other apps but now, interestingly, it's turning on cellular data for all apple designed apps,e.g. Pages, App Store, Itunes Store, Facetime, Contacts, Calendar, Mail etc. Everytime I try to turn them off, it doesn't work. Please Help!!
P.S. My phone is running ios7.

Follow these directions, but pay attention to comment 1 regarding drafts. Best instructions I've seen on how to set gmail up as IMAP.

  • The option of "use cellular data for" turns back on by itself for my apps. How do I fix this?

I´ve read many threads about this, but have found no clear solution yet.
I read somewhere that in order to save data usage, there is an option in Settings ->Cellular to enable/disable some apps from working with Cellular Data, so I went ahead and disabled several of my apps. However, when I check again (sometimes I go back to the home page of Settings and straight back into Cellular), all of the apps I disabled are enabled to use Cellular Data again. How do I fix this?
