Hi, i have apple TV and when i try to click settings i do not get a menu and i cant manually cync, any help out there ?

TS2972 Apple TV Streaming Troubles

Hi all,
If anyone can help me it would be much appreciated.
I have owned a first generation Apple TV for a few years and it mostly worked fine. It would have the odd drop out now and again but I always put it down to the internet casing problems. In the last year it has been completely rubbish, it never shows up in my itunes when it should, and it would regularly drop out during and in between shows. In the end it was a fight everytime I wanted to use and I figered it was getting old and I should upgrade. I got a new apple tv 3 weeks ago. I was really happy with it and it was streaming perfectly from my imac. After a few days it started not wanting to strean two things in a row. I watch one show from my itunes and it works just fine, when that show ends I try to watch either the next episode in a series or something completely different and it just comes up with the loading symbol but never plays the show. The only way I can fix this is to quit out of itunes and open it up again, then it works fine great (For one show!)

Looks like Apple has recognised there's a problem with the ATV3's WiFi and is replacing certain units - for details, see http://9to5mac.com/2013/04/15/apple-says-small-number-of-apple-tvs-have-wifi-iss ues-opens-replacement-program/. Contrary to what it says there, the key positions in the serial number are the 4 and 5 characters rather than the third and fourth.

TS2972 apple tv can't sign in to iTunes Store until the network time has been set. this is an Apple generated message. what does it mean? how can i fix it? very very very simple questions but there is no reasonable answer from Apple anywhere on the intern

how do i fix it? nothing even begins to address this issue so far. generalities about system setup show a lack of respect for customers. yes my system is plugged in and i have reset and rebooted and rechecked everything. i need help because this a real problem that needs a real solution, not more platitudes.
help please, not more wasting of my time. i have spent an entire afternoon on this already.

this is exactly the kind of response i expected, almost begged support to please not do this to me and yet there it is another meaningless, non helpful, standard template response to restart my apple tv.
this does NOT work which is why i am contacting you. i have tried all suggestions about unplugging and restarting and nothing works.
i live in an apartment and logon to the provided wifi wireless. so i do not have access to a router. however, management says they have talked with their provider and have been assured that the required ports are available.
remember all the jokes about how bad windows was because the solution was always to re boot. funny huh? how is apple any different.
i have been to the local apple care store and they are clueless, too.
should we just end it here and you admit that i will not be getting any support from apple on this one? i got the ipad because my kids were such big fans. it is difficult for me to share their enthusiasm.
at this point i am just curious about how you say you cannot support your own product so i can complete my file on this contact.

TS2972 Apple TV (2) works great with everything BUT iTunes on my computer, AND I can turn Home Sharing Off and On multiple times and NOTHING show up under "shared" and NOTHING shows up under Computers on Apple TV???

My Apple TV (2) works fine with my iPad and iPhone.
My iTunes syncs with my iPad and iPhone.
I have turned "Home Sharing" off and on multiple times - of course using the same AppleID - and NOTHING shows up under Shared (and then Shared goes away) and NOTHING shows up under "Computers" on Apple TV?
Why aren't Apple TV and iTunes smart enought to work with each other on the same network? This should not be this difficult...

I think I am having the same problem.
My issue: since updating the software on ATV, I get an issue where shortly after starting a movie or video of some sort streaming from iTunes on my iMac the vid stops and Apple TV tells me that I need to connect to my Home Sharing account. Sometimes I can fix it by turning Home Sharing off and back on in my settings. Sometimes I need to completely reboot the AppleTV!
Any suggestions???

TS2972 Apple TV doesnt see my mac's home sharing even though it's turned ON

I did a recent apple tv update and ever since then, it doesnt recognize my library anymore. EVERYTHING on my apple tv works fine, BUT it's not connected to my library though the HOME SHARING. I've made sure it's turned on within my macbook pro and the apple tv, but the screen keeps telling me to turn on my "home sharing" on the computer. IT'S ON!!!!!
I've reset the apple tv and re-logged in.
I've logged out of the home sharing on both devices and turned home sharing back on.
I've made sure it's connected to the same WIIF network AND even tried it with Ethernet connection, STILL nothing.
IT WAS WORKING FINE before the update before this past one recently. I have apple care on it, but wanted to see what in the world it could be before i have to call and sit there going thru ALL these procedures i've ALREADY done!!
PS) I JUST got this Apple TV back in Dec (2011) so im not sure which generation it is, but it was brand new.
CAN ANYONE HELP ME?!?!

Now: I can see my iTunes library via AppleTV, and access it via the remote control.
Now: I can use the Remote App on my iPad to access my iTunes library, and control the library on my PC but not on AppleTV
Still, when playing a song on iTunes - either directly on the PC or via the iPad, when I select the AppleTV speakers - nothing. When I select 'multiple' speakers I don't get anything through the AppleTV speakers.
The AppleTV is connected to a Denon AVR (if this matters).

TS2972 Apple tv loses connection with home share

Recently received an apple tv as a gift. I connect it to iTunes through home sharing but the connection is lost after only a few minutes.

Well I firured it out, but dont know why it did this. When I restarted my computer and then opened itunes back up. Itunes changed the location of my media to the default location. (I changed the location of my library to my external time machine since it was becomeing to large). Again not sure why it decided to do this all of a sudden but that was the problem

TS2972 Apple TV launch music on iMAC

I have just bought an Apple TV and there is something weird that I don't manage to solve.
Basically, when I am surfing the Apple TV menu, the music on my iMAC start automatically (it also opens iTUNES if closed) without any predictable behavior.
In addition, I hear the "click" of the Apple TV remote control through the iMAC speakers.
Any thought about that?

Under settings-security-advanced on the iMac turn of the IR remote and it will stop, the remote on ATV can also control the Mac.

George, Your trouble sounds just like mine. You can read my thread here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4204561?start=0&tstart=0, but in summary:
Itunes and the Apple TV exchange messages about once per minute. If any wifi interference stops the message-and-reply, iTunes closes the home sharing connection. Other services are usually fine.
I solved my problems by wiring the ATV and computer. (Wiring either alone didn't work.) Home Sharing is now rock solid and works exactly as advertised. No drop-outs during play. The iTunes library is always available on ATV - I never have to restart home sharing or iTunes or the ATV. If a computer or ATV restarts, they pair up automatically.
Not everyone can wire, I know. But it worked for me. Test it if you can.

I have entered my password, turned on sharing in iTunes, checked the firewall settings, restarted iTunes, the computer and apple tv

I had to troubleshoot this problem too, and was at a loss because the Preferences dialog for Home Sharing doesn't have you sign in to Home Sharing using your AppleID. The trick is to click on the upper left icon (half gray, half white), then select "Library" and then "Turn On Home Sharing" at which point it will prompt you to sign in with your AppleID. Once you do this, your library should show up wherever you are trying to access it. It took me 2 days to figure this out because my PC library wouldn't show up on my AppleTV even though I had Sharing enabled in the Preferences dialog. Turns out it has to be enabled in the Preferences, but then turned on in this difficult to find menu item.

Use your wife's phone to AirPlay the music to the Apple TV.

TS2972 apple tv and mac were synced last week, now not so much

Apple TV won't sync with my mac. it was working last weekend and I have checked all connections and login info. Any suggestions?

I've seen quite a few similar issues posted on this forum, in most but not all cases, restarting the tv has resolved the issue. Have you tried doing this ?

TS2972 Apple TV will play some content but not other content

My AppleTV will recognize the available content on my computer and will play some of it, but when I try to watch other content it says that I must authorize the computer. However, the computer is already authorized, which Apple TV sees because it will play my music and a TV show I've downloaded. The content that it will not play was downloaded directly onto my iPad, and I can watch it on my iPad. When I try to watch it on Apple TV, it says I need to authorize the computer.
This is very frustrating. Any ideas on how I can fix this?

Just needed to Re-authorize the computer and every thing worked fine. I imagine this will solve most of the issues that I see posted on here concerning this problem.

TS2972 Apple TV home sharing on two boxes

I have 2 apple TVs: one at work and one at home. The home on works fine but the one at work will only sync cloud music rather than recognising computers. Any suggestions on how to resolve this?

Hi guys, home sharing is turned on on my iPad and my ID and password are correct, however once I go into computers on apple tv it's telling me to turn on home sharing on my computer, but as I said its on or so I thought Any help?

The first thing to check would be that both devices are on the same network, after checking this, ensure that any firewall or security software installed on your computer is not blocking access for iTunes.
