TS2972 Home Sharing no longer connects to PC

Home Sharing is no longer connecting, I have tried rebooting Apple TV, I have tried turning off home sharing and turning back on, rebooting my PC, and updating both PC and ATV to latest verison - both indicate they are up to date.
I have tried turning off my firewall, etc.  ATV can connect to iTunes so I know it is on my network.

sometimes with network changes it takes a while before they really kick in
which can cause one troubleshooting to change a lot of things too fast and change them back again before
they kick in

  • TS2972 home sharing when not connected to internet

my old computer will not connect to the internet and it has all my songs on it.  can i still do home sharing?

I do not believe you can based on Apple Technical Support article TS2972.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2972
In Section 4 under the Resolution, it states:
Home Sharing requires a home network with an active Internet connection. All the devices you want to use with Home Sharing need to be connected to your home network.

  • Home Sharing no longer works between iTunes and Apple TV.

I've been through all the forums, tried all the solutions provided and I have come to the conclusion that Home Sharing just no longer works between iTunes on a PC and my Apple TV.  Does anyone know if this issue will be addressed or should I list my Apple TV up on eBay?  (along with my iPad, iPod, and iPhone, since all system no longer sync together as before.)
    My issue:
My iTunes library is no longer listed under "Computers" on the Apple TV.
The airplay icon no longer shows up in iTunes. (Version 11)
I cannot play music/content from my iPhone or iPad via remote that is stored in my iTunes library through my Apple TV.
I can however play music/content that is stored locally on my iPhone and iPad through my Apple TV.
My firewall settings are allowing access to Apple TV.
After logging into my router, I see no issues there.
I've logged in/out, turned home sharing on/off, de-authorized/authorized, and restarted my PC, Apple TV, and Router.
All devices are logged into the same iTunes account, and are on the same wireless network.
    Time for a solution Apple.

If you turn off wifi on your  Computer and connect it to the apple tv using an ethernet cable can you see your library under computers in Apple TV.
If yes the issue is with your wifi not the Apple TV
You may want to try the troubleshooting article

    iTunes Home Sharing Not Working
Not working and sometimes when it is working, it cuts out in the middle, or when you click on the computer name, the focus goes away from the library.  In other words, really weird.
    What it is
iTunes has a feature called "Home Sharing" - it basically allows you to share your entire or part of your library with other instances of iTunes in your home network.  It requires you to login to your iTunes account on both computers.  A typical scenario is to enable Home Sharing on your desktop machine and then access the library from your iPad, Apple TV, iPhone, Mac, etc.
In my case, I have iTunes on my desktop machine running Windows XP in the attic with Home Sharing enabled and then I access the library from my Macbook and Apple TV, depending on what I want.  How to use Home Sharing can be found here.
    Symptoms
Home Sharing machine not showing up in Apple TV or the Macbook
The Macbook home sharing not showing up on my desktop
    Home Sharing working intermittently
    Connections getting cut of intermittently
Usually, restarting iTunes or the desktop computer will make things work.
Sometimes, restarting the Macbook or the Apple TV will make things work.
    The "working" doesn't last long
The FixOn the desktop computer where the Home Sharing is enabled, I disabled the "QoS Packet Scheduler" from the network connection:
    Open Control Panel
    Open Network Connections
Right-Click on your connection (in my case, it was "Wireless Network Connection 4"
    Select Properties
    Uncheck "QoS Packet Scheduler"
    Click OK
    Restart iTunes if necessary
After doing the above, Home Sharing worked like a charm.

  • Home sharing no longer shows up on my macbook pro iTunes.

Home sharing no longer shows up on my macbook pro iTunes. Our main computer is a Dell desktop that is authorized for home sharing. My macbook has also turned on home sharing, but the home computer does not show up. How exactly does home sharing work? Must you be in the same area to be able to use this feature or connected to the same network?

you will need both computer have itunes turned on and you will need a wifi for them to work.

  • Home Sharing no longer recognized

Home sharing no longer working on ATV since I swithed to a new iMac. Never had issues with the previous iMac. I've done everything mentioned on sites, including power cycling all devices, checking firewalls, updating software, etc.  I have repeatedly turned it off and on in iTunes with proper password/username.  Yet my ATV keeps asking me to turn it on in iTunes and does not see it.

  • Apple TV Home Sharing no longer working

I have a friend who is looking for help  Here is his problem:
"I've had the 2nd generation Apple TV since October when it was released and it has worked fine until I recently changed my Apple User Name (email address). After changing my user name my Apple TV and iPhone 4 no longer find my shared network and home sharing no longer works. Home sharing is enabled on all devices, including my Sony Vaio Laptop, iPhone4, and Apple TV 2nd generation. Everything else has remained constant, including service provider, router, modem, and internet security (Trend Micro). Also, my library is on a networked hard drive, which didn’t seem to make a difference before, but I figured I'd mention it."
The problem began when he changed his Apple User Name.  After he changed his name, home sharing no longer works even though he also changed it on all his devices to match the new Apple User Name.
How does he get Home Sharing working again. Has anyone run into this same problem?
    Thanks in advance

    Winston,
Thank you for the information.  He confirmed that the ID and password are the same on every device.  This only started happending when he changed his User Name with Apple.
--Itunes is running on a Windows Vista Machine (Sony Vaio)
--He has an Apple TV (2nd Gen)
    --He has an iPhone 4
Can you tell me more about the technologies that apple uses to make "homesharing" work?  Do you think he may need to remove then re-install Bonjour?

  • HT4352 I have done all the above but when I turn on the TV & go to computer the movies it still saying that the home sharing is not connected.

I have follow all the settings for the home sharing but when I turn on the TV & go to computer then movies it still saying that the home sharing is not connected.

  • Home Sharing no longer works in 10.1

There seems to be a few posts about this but nothing that answers the issue. I had Home Sharing working with 10.0 with my iPhone, iPad and Apple TV v2. Since the update the sharing no longer works and I can't connect any of the devices to iTunes 10.1 to share the library.
I have deauthorised each of the devices with no luck, the share seems to appear in iTunes when I first connect, click on 'Done' and it disappears.
This seems to be a problem with 10.1 but is incredibly frustrating as my Apple TV is now pretty much redundant without this functionality.
Anyone else seen this and fixed it under Windows 7?
    Thanks
    Neil

  • ITunes Home Sharing No Longer Auto-Plays On The iPad?

I have my movies on an external G-Drive connected to my Mac with FireWire.
iTunes has Home sharing on using an Airport Extreme.  On the iPad when I select
the Shared Tab, my movie collection cover art begins to load as normal.  Then I
Select a movie and the cover art is displayed on the right and the movie info on the
    left.
The problem is when I select the play button from that screen. The iPad screen goes
    black and nothing else happens?
If I tap on the black iPad screen the movie controllers then pop up and if I hit play then
it begins to play.  It used to play automatically right after I selected play from the splash screen.
    Any suggestions?

It appears that the buffering is taking an unsual longer time to load everything and this may be preventing the auto play from playing the movie as instant as possible.
I also noticed that if I go to edit a movie file on itunes it is taking a bit longer for the selected file to pop up for my edit.

  • ITunes Home Sharing No Longer Working Under Lion

Home Sharing is no longer working between Lion and my Apple TV or iPhone. I am able to watch Netflix through my Apple TV (2nd Gen) so I do have connectivity. I have restarted both devices, and updated iTunes to 10.4. Under "Advanced" in iTunes, Home Sharing is turned on. In Preferences in iTunes under Sharing, it says Status: On, no users connected, even though my Apple TV is connected to the network.
Is this problem isolated, or are others experiencing the same issue?

I'm up and running. Spoke with Apple and they had me go to : preferences, network and create a new location. That seems to have reset something. I had to reset all my devices back to my main network that had stopped working. The guest network will not let Home Sharing work, only the main network.
Others have been able to use Home Sharing without clicking "Done" after typing in their password. After you click "Done" the Shared disappears in iTunes.

  • Apple TV 4.4.4 Home Sharing no longer working over ethernet

My ATV home network setup has gone from working well to not at all over the last few days and I am trying to troubleshoot it, looking for folks with similar experiences.  This appeared to start on or around the time I did the 4.4.4 update, though it could be unrelated, because at that time I also switched my main home sharing server from an old Windows laptop to an old Mac Mini I just aquired for that purpose (which is a sweet little machine for $250 btw).
Situation is, with the ATV connected via ethernet, it no longer sees any home sharing servers, that are on ethernet or wifi.  It is also not available for airplay for any devices on wifi. This was working fine with the PC iTunes server on ethernet a few days ago.
If I connect both the ATV and Mac Mini iTunes server via wireless, it all works fine (but performace can suffer).  Something has changed, as the ATV on ethernet was also fine to access my macbook on the wireless network a few days ago, but again it doesn't unless the ATV is on wireless too.  Finally, the remote app on my iPhone will also only see the ATV if it is on wifi.  To me it is like Bonjour is not working over the ethernet connection. I have done a little port prodding, and this appears to be the case, but it is not conclusive.
I have reset, restored to factory and re-updated the ATV, turned home sharing on and off a 100 times, cylcled the servers, reinstalled iTunes, all sorts of stuff.
Honestly, I would more likely put the blame on something weird with the wired vs wifi network routing on my XFinity router/modem, if not for the fact that I haven't touched it for months (save a few power cycles) and I just updated the ATV when this went south.  I tried to ask Comcast about this issue, but that was like trying to explain quantum physics to the cat...
I've seen at least one other thread on this forum similar, was wondering if anyone else has had this sort of trouble since the 4.4.4 update?
    Thanks

Any news or updates in your Home Sharing problem? I am experiencing similar issues as well. I have turned on Home Sharing in two of my PCs, and my Apple TV 2 cannot see both of my PCs. I have the Remote application installed on my iPad 1, and it suddenly stopped working as well. The Remote application cannot see both of my PCs and Apple TV 2 anymore. I have also noticed that AirPlay does not work anymore as the AirPlay icon does not appear when I am watching videos on my iPad 1.
Home Sharing and AirPlay used to work the day before I have updated my Apple TV 2 to version 4.4.4. I have tried restarting, resetting the settings and restoring the Apple TV 2, and it did not resolve my issue. I have also tried disabling/enabling the Home Sharing in both of my PCs, and it also did not resolve my issue. I am leading to believe that the Apple TV 2 update to version 4.4.4 had something to do with my issue.

  • TS2972 Home Sharing with ATV stopped working after upgrade to iTunes 11

After upgrading to iTunes 11, my two PCs are no longer visible to Apple TV or the iOS Remote App.  I went through all the steps in "Troubleshooting Home Sharing" http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2972 without success.  In additions, I tried:
Turning Home Sharing off, then on again on both PCs
    Re-created Firewall rules for iTunes
Ran a factory reset on Apple TV
Disabled iPV6 on the network adapter, based on a blogger's fix for an iTunes 10 problem
    Some other observations:
Home Sharing was working with Apple TV an hour before I ran the updates for iTunes 11 and Apple TV.
The Apple TV and iOS Remote App are working together, so the network settings must be correct.
The PCs in question are running Window 8 Pro 64-bit and Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
The two PCs can see eachother's iTunes.
It seems likely this is an iTunes 11 issue, but upgrading ATV2 at the same time clouds the diagnostics.
I was just about to order two more Apple TVs, but now have second thoughts now that my ATV2 is just a doorstop.
    Any suggestions?

You are not alone with issues related to the e1000e (but all they concluded was that reloading the module makes it work again):
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=145564
It seems like this is more your issue:
    http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.linux. … devel/8932
But if none of those boot flags work for you, then there's not much you can do, and you'll have to write a script to reload the module each time after initial boot finishes I guess until the module gets fixed.
Also, power management of the PCIe interface causes the e1000e to shut off after a while as well (lots of people on CentOS noticing this):
    http://serverfault.com/questions/226319 … ie-aspm-do
So you can use that boot parameter to stop that from happening, if that becomes an issue for you as well.

  • TS2972 Home sharing is enabled but can not see shared libraries on any devices

I don't see my shared libraries on authorized computers, iphone, nor  Apple TV.
    Ran netstat -an
and see the listener for TCP tcp port 3689
Also see an entry for udp port 5353.
I can open a connection to the tcp port 3689 via a java api program and telnet.
I also used TS2972 to help with thiss
the only thing I did not do is reset the router but since I can open the ports I don't beleieve it is a router issue
All devices ere connected to the same router
All devices are using the same apple id
Need this to work to get the most out of the iphone and apple tv
    any ideas are appreciated

I have set the apple ID in the Home sharing setting on windows. Also set it on the iPhone and Apple TV and also shared another library on another windows iTunes application. I don't see any shared libraries on any device. Both the pcs only show the local  libray.

  • Home Sharing no longer working / Windows 7

Prior to about a week ago, home sharing from my computer worked fine with absolutely no issues. I have several Apple TVs (all generation 2) in my home which all streamed from my computer. I am streaming from iTunes on a Windows 7 PC.
Now I am unable to even see my library listed under computers in the Apple TV's settings. When I try to use AirPlay directly from my PC, my Apple TV reacts immediately but does not get past the loading circle. Sometimes it gives a home sharing error message after about a minute, other times it just continues to show the loading circle on my TV screen until I manually cancel the connection.
AirPlay from a mobile device (iPod, iPhone, iPad) has no issues with streaming, and also using the Air Parrot mirror app from my PC works flawlessly.
It seems for certain that the issue is Home Sharing from my PC.
I have already attempted several fixes to no avail:
Resetting home sharing on all devices and resetting modem and router.
Unchecking 'Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)' in my network adapter settings.
Making sure appropriate ports have access through both Windows and my virus protection's firewalls.
    Un-installing/re-installing iTunes.
    Downpatching to iTunes 10.7.
Testing issues with directories from both C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\ and C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming.
I have searched dozens of "fix it" websites and forum threads and am pretty much left with no other ideas on what could be wrong.
If anyone could point me in the right direction from here I would be extremely grateful.

I was having this problem, too.
    Here's what worked for me:
    1) Find your iTunes application in Windows Explorer (in my case, Computer -> OS (C:) -> Program Files (x86) - iTunes -> iTunes.
    2) Right click on iTunes.
    3) Choose "Properties."
    4) Then select the "Compatibility" tab.
    5) Then Check "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and select your Windows version from the menu (in my case, "Windows 7").
After that, as soon as I re-opened iTunes, I was able to share my computer library just as before.
