TS2972 Status: sharing on, no users connected

Hello, I am trying to connect 2  windows pc's with the itunes sharing.  One PC is win 8 and the other is win 7 and both have itunes 11 installed and sharing enabled.
Icannot see the libraries on either machine.
When I go into preferences, it says Status: sharing on, no users connected.
I checked the mcafee virus firewall and Itunes is in there.
what next?

I have exactly the same problem but with a Macbook Pro (not Windows!).
Neither my iphone or my girlfriends ipad can see the homeshared iTunes from the Macbook Pro and the Macbook Pro doesn't list any devices under Shared in iTunes.
All signed in with the same iTunes login, no problems or errors with passwords.
All three devices are accessing the same Wifi network with no problems, all able to stream iplayer video easily, so no connection issues.
Apple Firewall on but itunes is listed as allowing incoming connections and firewall not set to block all incoming connections (I even tried turning off the firewall completely but no success).
Macbook Pro homesharing turned on first, then the iphone, then the iPad.
Everything turned off several times (incl home sharing on its own, then plus iTunes, and then same plus power) and back on again.
Router reset.
Router reset plus the above combinations of turning off and on.
Any ideas, the only comments I can find are from smug Apple users blaming Windows for this issue, but I have all Apple??!!!

  • TS2972 is it possible to use home sharing between two users on the same computer?

My wife and I have itunes accounts and want to be able to share music we have each bought on our accounts. We have tried setting up the home sharing on our PC but it doesn't show up on the screen. Can anyone please help?

"Is it possible to use home sharing between two users on the same computer?"
No. Home sharing is used to connect two running instances of iTunes across a network. When you switch users on the computer all applications running on the other profile are suspended.
You can however share your respective media folders so that they are visible in either profile and then copy over any content that you want, or you could create a single joint library which you use when either user is logged in.

  • File sharing reports too many users connected

SPECS: Mac Mini Core 2 Duo 2 GHz, 2G RAM, Mac OS X 10.6.4. Other users in office also running similar hardware and Mac OS X 10.6.4.
CLARIFICATION: This Mini is used as a file server in a small law office (4 other workstations). It is running Mac OS X Client, not Server. I refer to the machine as "the server" but wanted to be clear the operating system is the same on all stations.
HISTORY & CONFIG: This system was setup in November 2009. It provides simple file sharing storage for a 4-user law office and runs Retrospect (version 8.1.626) to do some local and network backup operations. At the time it was setup, it was also running Now Up-to-Date Server but that program is no longer supported, and it has been removed from the computer (May 31, 2010). In late March 2010, I installed Daylite Server as a replacement for Now Up-to-Date. All stations are running Mac OS X 10.6.4, and have always been at the most recent Mac OS X 10.6.x revision within a few days of the release of a major update.
PROBLEM: Occasionally, clients cannot connect to the server (and I don't have the exact error message -- next time it happens, someone is supposed to get a screenshot). When this happens, if you go to the server and open the file sharing control panel, then click "options", you will see an impossible number of people are connected. The first time this happened was on April 28, 2010, when it reported 41 users were connected. Mac OS X Client has an upper limit of 10 simultaneous user connections, so you can see this number is not possible. Additionally, these are "phantom" logins because you can execute this command in Terminal to see the IP addresses of any connected users:
    netstat -n | grep '.548'
And when I do this, unless there was someone who had logged in prior to the "phantom explosion", it never shows any connections. On two occasions, I've actually been in the office late one night to do maintenance, checked the server before I left and found 0 connected users, then got a call in the morning that the first person who attempted to connect was blocked and the server showed 10 or more users connected.
I do not believe this is some kind of security breach. The server is not Internet-accessible, and as is shown by the netstat command, there really isn't anyone logged in anyway. I consulted with Marketcircle (makers of Daylite) because it seemed very coincidental that I installed their software just prior to the beginning of this problem, but they claim Daylite does not make any use of the Mac file sharing system. But, again, since these aren't real users, I suppose it's possible a bug in their software is somehow upping the Mac's connected user count erroneously?
Restarting the server always fixes the problem -- until it happens again. This Mac Mini is a pretty simple station -- just runs Daylite Server and Retrospect Single Server, plus the basic file sharing. Anyone have any ideas why this keeps happening?

I would say odds are likely this is correct. On at least two occasions I can think of where I verified everything was okay and later discovered a "phantom explosion", a Retrospect backup would have run. Our backups typically run at 3 AM. Is this a known issue with Retrospect? If so... not sure why it doesn't happen all the time. And in my own office I have a pretty similar setup on an entirely different computer that multiple people connect to, and it never does this. Color me confused.

  • TS2972 home sharing when not connected to internet

my old computer will not connect to the internet and it has all my songs on it.  can i still do home sharing?

I do not believe you can based on Apple Technical Support article TS2972.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2972
In Section 4 under the Resolution, it states:
Home Sharing requires a home network with an active Internet connection. All the devices you want to use with Home Sharing need to be connected to your home network.

  • Reason for message: another user connected via Sharing

For a bunch of reasons I don't want to get into yet I was wondering if someone could explain this to me:
If you have a desktop and laptop connected through your Airport (private network) and you close your laptop without logging out of the network and then log onto another (unprotected) network and then go to restart and you get the message that there is another user connected to you via Apple File Sharing could that be your own unterminated connection from your desktop? Or does it mean that someone went into your system? (and if that is the case is there a way of knowing what if anything was opened and/or uploaded?) TIA

Easiest way to look back is with...
    With Sharepoints...
    http://www.hornware.com/sharepoints/
    And...
    http://www.hornware.com/afsmonitor/
IIRc, one allows you to enable the logging, then view with the other.... though it says "current" Users, I think it might inclusde history!?
But in the future I will turn the Airport off before putting the laptop to sleep for the night, if that improves the security.
Actually, the reason for disconnecting before Sleep or Moving away, is so as not to confuse the Macs as to who's on first!
During Sleep, the power to the Airport Transmitter & Receiver is cut off to save power... it deaf, dumb, and blind during Sleep.

  • TS2972 Home Sharing no longer connects to PC

Home Sharing is no longer connecting, I have tried rebooting Apple TV, I have tried turning off home sharing and turning back on, rebooting my PC, and updating both PC and ATV to latest verison - both indicate they are up to date.
I have tried turning off my firewall, etc.  ATV can connect to iTunes so I know it is on my network.

sometimes with network changes it takes a while before they really kick in
which can cause one troubleshooting to change a lot of things too fast and change them back again before
    they kick in

  • Cannot send email via ActiveSync when user connect from Internet (Exchange 2010 SP3 RU5)

    Hi All.
This is the first time I encounter this kind of issue, whenever user connect from the internet they cannot send email from their Phone or Windows Mail App, but they can retrieve email
But when they connect from Internal Network they can send email. I already test ActiveSync from internet using www.testexchangeconnectivity.com and it pass all tests.
I also check the Firewall and all the necessary ports already opened (we even open all ports) , the default TTL on the firewall 3600 second.
From what I read ActiveSync use some kind of HTTP POST or in MS terminology "PING" command, but still have no idea what kind of configuration that should be made to the Firewall so it can pass this "PING" command. Because from what I
see in Android Logcat the problem always related to this PING command

  • How to provide access to multiple users connected to a Dumb switch? (multi-auth/multi-domain)

    Good morning everybody,
I am writing on behalf of not being able to implement a desired outcome in our company network. In fact the situation is as follows:
What I want to do is to be able to authenticate users (802.1x authentication) in our company radius server and authorize them access by having a dynamic VLAN assignment in a multi-user environment on one and the same port of a Cisco 2960 switch. So far, the authentication and authorization has been working completely smoothly (there are no problems with itself). The concept involves the configuration of both DATA and VOICE VLANs as I there is also phone authentication implemented. In order to simulate this environment I introduce a Dumb switch connected to my Cisco 2960 Catalyst.
What I have successfully managed to get to work so far is this:
    1) On one switch port I have tried the “authentication host-mode multi-domain” and it worked perfectly for a PC behind a telephone, or with one PC connected to a the dumb switch + the telephone connected to another port of the dumb switch. Logically it is the same situation as there is a separation in two domains – DATA and VOICE. Bellow is an output from show authentication sessions for this scenario.
Interface  MAC Address     Method   Domain   Status         Session ID
    Fa0/23     0021.9b62.b79b  dot1x    DATA     Authz Success  C0A8FF69000000F3008E (user1)
    Fa0/23     0015.655c.b912  dot1x    VOICE    Authz Success  C0A8FF69000000F9009F (phone)
    2) On the other hand, when I try the same scenario with the “authentication host-mode multi-auth”, the switch still separates the traffic in two domains and is able to authenticate all users, AS LONG AS they are in the same VLAN.
    show authentication sessions:
Interface  MAC Address     Method   Domain   Status         Session ID
    Fa0/23     0021.9b62.b79b  dot1x    DATA     Authz Success  C0A8FF69000000F3008E (user1)
    Fa0/23     b888.e3eb.ebac   dot1x    DATA     Authz Success  C0A8FF69000000F8008C (user2)
    Fa0/23     0015.655c.b912  dot1x    VOICE    Authz Success  C0A8FF69000000F9009F (phone)
However, I cannot succeed authentication of many users from DIFFERENT VLANs, neither in multi-auth nor in multi-domain modes.
What I want to get is an output like this:
Interface  MAC Address     Method   Domain   Status         Session ID
    Fa0/23     0021.9b62.b79b  dot1x    DATA     Authz Success  C0A8FF69000000F3008E (user1)
    Fa0/23     b888.e3eb.ebac dot1x    DATA     Authz Success  C0A8FF69000000F8008C (user2)
    Fa0/23     0015.655c.b912  dot1x    VOICE    Authz Success  C0A8FF69000000F9009F (phone)
I want the switch to authenticate the users anytime they connect to itself and for them to have an instant access to the network. (I tell this because I tried scenario 1) with multi-domain mode and authentication violation replace, and it worked but, two users never had access to the “Internet” simultaneously!!!
The configuration of the interface connected to the Dumb switch is as follows.
    interface FastEthernet0/x
     description Connection to DUMBswitch
     switchport mode access
     switchport voice vlan XXX
     switchport port-security maximum 10
     switchport port-security
     switchport port-security violation protect
     authentication host-mode multi-auth
     authentication priority dot1x
     authentication port-control auto
     authentication timer reauthenticate 4000
     authentication violation replace
     dot1x pae authenticator
     dot1x timeout tx-period 10
     spanning-tree portfast
The way I see it is explained in the following steps:
    - PC1 connects to the Dumb switch. This causes the Cisco switch to authenticate user1. This creates an auth. session with its MAC address linked to a domain DATA.
    - When PC2 connects to the Dumb switch, this causes the violation replace which replaces the recent authenticated MAC address with the MAC of PC2. I would like it once authenticated to appear in the authentication sessions with a link to a new DATA domain linked to the VLAN assigned from the RADIUS server.
Is this possible? I think (in theory) this is the only way to provide authenticated access to multiple users connecting through Dumb switch to the network.
Has anybody ever succeeded in such a configuration example and if yes, I would be love to get some help in doing so?
    Thank you
    Stoimen Hristov

    Hi Stoimen,
I have done a setup similar to yours with the only exception being VLAN assignment. When I used dACLs only, it makes things somewhat easier as the VLAN no longer matters. Remember that the switchport is in access mode and will only allow a single VLAN across it (with the exception of the voice VLAN). I think that is the real cause of your problem.
From what I can see, you have 2 options available to you:
    1) Use dACLs instead of VLAN assignment. This means that an access list will be downloaded from the radius server straight to the authenticated user's session. I have tested this and it works perfectly. Just Google Cisco IBNS quick reference guide and look for the section that deals with Low Impact mode.
    2) Get rid of the dumb switches and use managed switches throughout your network. Dumb switches will always be a point of weakness in your network because they have no intelligence to do advanced security features like port security, 802.1x, DHCP snooping, etc.
Hopefully someone else will chime in with another option.

  • SYS user connects at database level, is it correct?

My senior colleague has given me following information about the sys user. I want to know, is it correct?
Since SYS user connects at the database level, therefore, on killing the active session of the SYS user, only the current statement is cancelled. The database session does not disconnect. Instead it continues to run the remaining statements in the script file in case we are running a script file containing a lot of SQL statements.

Instead it continues to run the remaining statements in the script file in case we are running a script file containing a lot of SQL statements.Running a SQL script very likely means SQL*Plus is used. One of two types of Oracle sessions will be created via sqlplus. A dedicated session. Or a shared server session.
A dedicated session can also be local (sqlplus connects "directly" to the dedicated server process), or remote (sqlplus connects via tcp/ip to the dedicated server process).
A server session is usually "killed" using the alter system kill session command. Despite the differences between shared and dedicated server connections, the end result is the same. The session terminates abnormally (session UGA will be released, session will be cleaned up, rolled back, etc) - and the session ceases to exist.
So irrespective of how that sqlplus session runs that script - the session, when killed, will cause a sqlplus failure. And no subsequent script commands would be executed by that Oracle session.
What can happen is that sqlplus continues running, continues reading the script, and continues submitting commands to be executed. However, with the server session killed, there is no server process to service the commands submitted by the sqlplus client. In this case, sqlplus will throw the error "+SP2-0640: Not connected+" after each of the commands it tries to execute after the server session was killed.
The only time when sqlplus will be able to continue is when the session is not killed, but interrupted. The Oracle Call Interface (OCI) supports a OCIBreak() call - allowing the client to interrupt-and-abort the request that its server session is currently executing.
For example, sqlplus sends a OCIBreak() while it waits for a server response (e.g. waiting for the answer to a SQL select query), when the user presses Ctrl-Break to abort that request.
In this case, the session still exists - and the client can issue a new request that the session will service. But an OCIBreak() cannot be triggered (to my knowledge) externally from another Oracle session. You need to send the client process a "break request" (like a Ctrl-Break keystroke) in order to trigger that client process to make an OCIBreak() call to Oracle and interrupt its server process.

  • 10.6.8 MBPro Screen Sharing suddenly can not connect to our other Macs.

We've used Screen Sharing from our MBPros for the past few years to manage our Mac file & media servers. Last year we replaced our G5 file server with a Mac Mini with Lion server. No problems - we could still use Screen Sharing to manage both this Lion file server and the Snow Leopard MacPro that's hooked up to our TV (among other things).
Friday morning my MBP could not see or connect to the Lion file server - the MBPs have the Lion server's data drives in Login Items so they mount when we log in. I also cound not Screen Share to either the Lion server or the SL MacPro. I checked the MBP's ethernet connection and could get to our router and the internet. When I tried to connect via Screen Sharing (by using the Share Screen... button in a Finder window, by using the Connect to Server command with vnc:// protocol, or by using the ScreenSharing menulet) I would get the "Connecting to Lion server" alert but nothing further. I left it for 10 minutes or so and it eventually disappeared but the connection never opened.
I checked the two servers and both were up and running. From the SL MacPro I could use Screen Sharing to get to the Lion server - and my MBPro too. From the Lion server I could Screen Share to the MacPro and my MBPro also.
The problem appeared to be with my MBPro. I switched to an unprivledged user account on it and found I could then get to both servers using Screen Sharing. So it was just my account on the MBPro. Rebooting did not help. Turning on AirPort, connecting to our home AirPort Extreme and unplugging the ethernet cable did not change anything with my account connecting to the servers.
I figured something somehow got pranged in my account's credentials. I used Keychain Access to delete all keychains containing the servers' names, IP addresses or sharing. I was asked for my credentials when I mounted the server's shared drives, but not when I tried Screen Sharing - got the same "Connecting to Lion server" or "Connecting to media server" dialogues and was never asked for username or password, but never connected either.
I cleared all caches using the utility Maintenance in case my MBPro was using invalid cached info. No improvement.
Saturday morning I shut down everything on our entire network - FiOS "modem"/router, Netgear gigabit switch, AirPort Snow, AirPort Extreme, MacPro, MacMini, both MacBookPros... even the FiOS cable box. Still no improvement.
IPv6 is disabled on the Lion server. All the Macs have all curent updates applied.
I've spent most of today Googling for solutions and trying them out. None have worked - though I see several very recent reports in these Apple Communities about Screen Sharing suddenly not working.
I really do not want to have to move to a new account on my MBP - and what's to say it won't happen again? Anyone have other suggestions?

    sunnovagun!
Hitting the Log Out button in the MobileMe panel worked. I can now connect to both the SnowLeopard and Lion servers just like I used to.
My condition appears to have been slightly different from yours, gmia - the MobileMe on my MBP had the correct info, but hose are not the credentials i use to remote to the two servers. I'm guessing that for some reason ScreenSharing began using my MobileMe credentials instead of what I had saved in the keychains.
Wonder if it had anything to do with the shutdown of the MM servers. That would be odd as using ones apple ID to log into a Mac remotely was new with Lion, and I had the same problem with our SnowLeopard server - which I remote into much more frequently.
Probably didn't hurt though to reboot the entire network...

  • What server should I use to support 150 user connection

We use Developer 2000 to develope our application, we want to use the Oracle Application Server to connect 150 external users through internet, can you tell me that is it fast enough if I use the following server for Application Server:
    -     Pentium III Xeon 1GHz with 133MHz GTL Bus
    -     256K level two ECC cache
    -     4GB ECC RAM
    -     2 x 36GB Harddisk
    -     Integrated Dual Wide-Ultra2 controller
The user connects to our server will only run some simple input screen, no large job. Is there any standard figure for us to calculate the required RAM?

My suggestion is to double check your actual requirements:
    - are they related mainly to a network issue, in such case your problem might find a solution with connection pooling / connection manager to run shared rather than dedicated connections on the database server ? Have a close look at this if you are running behind a firewall.
    - you mention app server, but you seem to refer to a database server. If this is the case, a big part of the answer will lie in tuning the performance of your database server, with a close look at memory caching (buffer and library cache) , Disk I/O . The initial choice of your database block size is equally important and will depend on the nature of your application (DSS or OLTP)...

  • One iTunes library to be shared by two users on Vista

I have all my songs and Lapps located in the public folder so it can be shared by both users on our computer. My problem is when I purchase a new song, it shows up in my library but not my wife's. I have to go into her user account, open iTunes, and specifically tell it to bring in a new folder even though it is already in the folder with all our other music.
Is there a way to have newly purchased songs automatically show up in both users iTunes libraries? It seems a little screwy to have these extra steps to the process, so I'm sure I just have something set up wrong.
    Thanks!

I assume that you each have an iTunes folder in your own Music folders. This will contain iTunes lIbrary.itl - the library database - an iTunes Music folder which should be empty as you have all your music in shared music.
Also I assume you have your music folder in your shared music folder and all your music is there.
You need to choose one of your iTunes folders to use for the shared database.
Copy this iTunes folder from your own Music folder into shared music. Delete the empty iTunes Music folder there, move it somewhere like the desktop if it is not empty.
Now move the folder containing your music folder into your iTunes folder so it replaces the one you deleted/moved. Rename it "iTunes Music" if that is not already its name.
Now do a shift key start. Hold down the shift key and start iTunes. Keep holding the shift key until you are prompted to choose/create a library. Select choose and navigate to the iTunes folder in Shared Music and choose iTunes Library.itl.
Check to see if it has worked.
Repeat the shift key start for the other user to connect to the shared library.
Note that you will have shared playlists, counts and ratings.
If either user is not an administrator, you will need to ensure the permissions for the shared iTunes folder allow write access for that user. Limited users do not normally have write access to folders they did not create.
If my assumptions about you set up are not correct you will need to adjust the method accordingly.

  • User connections to the RAC/standby instances

Before I setup the client failover practices, I tested user connection to my RAC instances.
1st I shutdown one instance, of course all connection will go to remaining instance.
However when both RAC instances are up and running, any new connection goes to instance 1.
Is this normal ? Is that the way supposed to be?

Is this normal ? Is that the way supposed to be?If any new connections are coming.. if load balancing configure properly these sessions should be shared across the cluster.

to configure load balancing.. its in my repository & one my favourite link as well..
If you post in High Availability --> Real Application Clusters.. You may get more prompt responses.

  • Does shared public fixed user database links work with 9.2.0.8

    Hi,
I'm trying to test benefits of using 'shared public fixed user database links' in 9.2.0.8 .
I've monitored tcp/ip communication after creating db link via:
    CREATE SHARED PUBLIC DATABASE LINK sales.us.americas.acme_auto.com CONNECT TO scott IDENTIFIED BY tiger AUTHENTICATED BY anupam IDENTIFIED BY bhide USING 'sales';
but as far as I've observed there is new tcp/ip connection made after new user requesting remote table .
So looks like there is 1:1 relationship between user sessions requesting remote table and network connection opened .
Actually there are 2 network connection opened for every session using remote table .
    tcp4       0      0  192.15.x.y.44141        192.15.x.y.1521         ESTABLISHED
tcp4       0   1127  192.15.x.y.1521         192.15.x.y.44170        ESTABLISHEDAs of both instances sharing same hardware ,maybe better aproatch would be BEQ communication ?
But I dont see obvious reasons that IPC communication would be better than few connections (because of shared db links) via tcp/ip .
Maybe my understanding of shared db links is wrong but I think that at some point there will be no 1:1 relation between user session requesting remote table
and number of network connection with remote instance . So for exaple with 100 user session I see only 10 network connections .
    Regards.
    Greg

Thank You, that looks promising .
But could You help with creating test case scenario in which I can clearly see the difference in tcp/ip connection numbers between shared non-shared db links.
    Regards.
    Greg
