  • After Software Update, USB Power Issues and Cursor Freezing

I have a 1.8 dual g5. After the latest software update I experienced some seriously quirky usb power fluctuations, a card reader frying and sudden, but temporary, mouse cursor freezing. I did some research and went for a clean install from original Leopard disc and downloaded the combo update 10.5.2 from apple support. I then restarted in "safe mode" and ran the 10.5.2 update, restarted, zapped the pram, restarted to disc warrior to repair permissions and clean the drive... then restarted again. Same deal: Spinning lines on gray 1-2 minute. black (sometimes white) screen 3-5 minutes. blue screen 1-2 minutes. log in.
Tried cocktail, disc utility permission repair and removing log-in applications/drivers. Same deal... ****** computing. I feel like it's 1999 all over again.
Cost me three full days work so far under a very tight deadline and a lot of stress..... Apple is 100% responsible for this messy release and needs to address it quickly.

My problem is similar to the others already posted, but quite different too. Perhaps someone else has had this strange issue occur. I attach my nike+ receiver and set my workout as usual, and then I come to selecting playlists. I select my playlist (which is titled running) and my work out starts. HOWEVER, the playlist that I selected plays music from another playlist such as sarah mclachlan (which is not in my running playlist). I have tried everything that you guys already posted short of doing a restore. Any thoughts? I posted this same question on the nikeplus.com web forum but no one has replied. I can find no sequence to the playlist malfunction. For example say I choose to play my sarah mclachlan playlist it will play my irish playlist instead and so forth. Make sense? HELP!!!!!

  • 10.5.2 update - "welcome" screen appears and stuck in loop

Just ran 10.5.2 update, when computer prompted to restart, it did not resart. I ended up pushing power button to reset. Now, on booting, I am sent to a 'welcome to OSX' screen, so I provided user information. Hit 'Done', screen goes blue for few seconds, and I am sent back to 'welcome to OSX' screen. I searched here for similar problem, but I did not see any so far. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
My friend had the same problem on her iMac G5, and I followed the instructions to boot to safe mode which gave me the login screen after 4-5 minutes (it takes long, and the fans goes to full for a while).
The problem was that after I logged in the same welcome screen occurred again, and I was back in the loop.
I was able to find info on another forum, that when the login screen appears, then you should NOT login, instead go "back" and then use the "restart" icon to restart the machine.
After following this, the machine started to do the upgrade and everything went OK and everything was back to normal.
    regards,
    Sebastian

  • A pop-up window advising of software update for Firefox appears and does not connect with server

The window suggests strongly that I update software but when I attempt to update it does nothing but try to connect with server and never does

    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Software_Update (Software Update not working properly)
Remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder.
You may need to delete active-update.xml and updates.xml as well if present.<br />
    XP:
    C:\Documents and Settings\&lt;user&gt;\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates
    (%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox)
If you have problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version.
You may need to remove the Firefox program folder to do a clean install of the new version.
    Do a clean (re-)install:
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Do not remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Problems after software updates - iTunes, Sound, Clock and General

After applying the update to iTunes (7.6.2), it has almost exclusively crashed straight after start up, or after a few seconds of playback. Twice it's worked for a short period, but then crashed when I plugged my iPod in.
I get this in the Problem Report:
    Exception Type: EXCBADACCESS (SIGBUS)
    Exception Codes: KERNPROTECTIONFAILURE at 0x0000000000000008
    Ire-installed it to no avail.
A couple of days later I carried out most of the other updates, and ever since things are running slow. Everything down to the trackpad movement is sluggish, even choosing a user and entering my password falters and stalls. Sound seems to skip and struggles to be played if at all, and absurdly my clock is losing time, at a rate of about 50 minutes every hour.
Taking the battery out and holding down the power button temporarily(about 10 minutes) resolved the sluggishness, after which point it slowed back down.
These are all the software updates carried out over the last week:
    +iTunes 7.6.2+
    +Macbook EFI Firmware 1.1+
    +iMovie 7.1.+
    +Keynote 4.0.2+
    +Number 1.0.2+

    +Time Machine and AirPort 1.0+
    +Keynote 4.0.3+
    +Security 2008-002 1.1+

I'd be very grateful for any help or pointers as to what may have cause the problems, and how I might go about rectifying them.

  • HT1492 The update-process of Xcode jan. 2013 ver. did stop whilst installing the iMac did reset and a gray screen appears with the message: Diskdrive 0 space available - then reset and gray screen again. How can I delete the update?

After allowing my iMac updating about 80 apps, the process did stop whilst installing new ver. Xcode jan. 2013 - the iMac did reset and a gray screen appears, with white letters: 0 space on Harddrive! It wasn't any sign the harddisk had not space enough, to complete the update - until the reset occours. For us and our little company a catastrophic event.
After inserting the original Snow Lepard Install Disk, the Diskmanager shows no error. No test shows any sign of error in Software. Freeing some of the empty space shows 12,5 Gb.
Perhaps this is a new kind of error happen with this combinations of the new versions of Apps and Xcode...?
Perhaps it's a know problem. I will be truely happy when finding a solution in this community.
    Kindest Regards from Scandinavia

If it's slow on startup it would be extensions loading or LaunchDaemons starting up.
You should have a look in:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
    /Library/Extensions
You can count out anything in your home folder and it shouldn't put anything in /System as that's reserved for Apple.

  • I tried many times to turn it on, it turns and the same white screen appears and the update starts again and shuts down. Please Help me!

    Hello!
I have a MacBook Air. I have got a software update notification couple of days ago. I've clicked on it today, and it started installing updates.
But, I have got a notification telling that not all updates were installed successfully, then I have clicked on "Restart" from the notification box. Then my Mac restarted and the white screen with Apple logo and the update progress appeared (like what always happens during updates).
The problem that while the update progress reached around half the way, my Mac shutdown. I tried many times to turn it on, it turns and the same white screen appears and the update starts again and shuts down.
    Please Help me!
    MacBook Air (11-inch Mid 2009)

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
You did not state whether you installed the update while on battery (not mains) power. You are warned not to apply certain updates without being connected to a charger & mains power.
    Also remove any attached peripherals.
Reboot in Repair mode (command-R at start)  and use Disk Tools-Disk Utility-Disk First AId to repair your disk, and as long as you're there repair permissions. Next quit Disk Tools and reinstall the OS. After completing that successfully reboot, log in and do a combo update.
You must have more than enough (not just enough) empty (free) disk space for the update.

  • IPhone went bad after software update - iPhone 5 is now stuck on Itunes connect and has vertical lines

iPhone went bad after software update - iPhone 5 is now stuck on Itunes connect and has vertical lines.
I found a video on youtube with similar issues - http://youtu.be/Xuuqxx18-bA
EVERYTHING HAS BEEN TRIED: Restore, Reboot, Recycle, Replacing Cables, etc....
I don't have Apple Care, what to do? Spend more money and buy a new phone?

Here is another person who has a problem with the iPhone 5 screen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sc1ZPWSA8dc and they have just received them NEW!!!!!
I myself, two days ago purchased a  2nd hand iPhone 5 that was advertised as having a line of squares at the bottom of the screen. I Googled it and found people saying it was a screen issue and to replace the screen, so I did this and it is still happening with a new screen.
I am starting to dislike Apple intensely after reading forum posts and watching videos where people are asking for help and telling us about issues that they are having with their phones.
Why is Apple getting it so wrong with their updates and manufacturing that they are completely destroying iPhones that cost a lot of money and then expecting the owner to purchase another phone unless they are still in warranty.
Apple you should be going out of your way to put things right for people but instead there is a wall of silence over so many of the issues destroying peoples phones.
    SHAME ON YOU!

After yesterday software update, My ibook restart and got stuck in the blue screen with the spinning spiral icon in the middle of the screen.

notes in the iPads fly, I cannot open them immediately after pressing the notes a black screen appears and disappears

Quick update, the duplicate of the comic-con episode downloaded succesfully, and so has the first episode of Supernatural season 8. Blue dots appear to their left in the library.
All the Vampire Diaries episodes (except the bonus comic-con double) have vanished, but I paid for them !
They're not anywhere on my harddrive either.
Which is new by the way, this is a new MacbookPro, literally set it up today.
So it would seem this is a case of purchased and pseudo-downloaded episodes that ended up beinge gobbled up by some iTunes black hole, leaving me with no money, and no episodes.
    Need help, confirmed.

  • Crash during software update = black screen and no way to Restart

Had to rebuild my hard drive and system from original Leopard install CD.
Subsequently, initiated internet Software Update which transferred OK.
After Software Update restarted to finish installation the process locked up at "54% complete". Restarting to break out of frozen state, (what else might I have done?!) machine begins to come up but screen goes black then text/code at top of screen scrolling down to a message that I need to Restart but such is repeatedly unsuccessful + no way to open CD drive to perhaps begin again from scratch.
Machine is in a partially updated and therefor scrambled state. Suggestions anyone??

You can open the drive by restarting while holding down your mouse button, wired mouse only.
