TS3048 "Mouse buttons don't work as expected"

When I consulted the troubleshooting page, the fix was identical to the fix listed for tracking problems, and that won't fix my problem.. Probably won't fix other peoples problems either
When my Magic mouse is connected, it acts like the left button is constantly being held (selecting, dragging, and not allowing left click), except it's not.
I have checked that the button hasn't warped for some reason, and also done a peliminary scan of other internet forums. There was a similar problem with the trackpad, but that occured after a firmware update, and was fixed by a firmware update.
Could anybody help?

Just a bit of information from someone who has been using Apple products for well over 15 years (including a couple of warranty issues).  Also, as an aside, the little purple dots indicate that I have helped a lot of people here in the past. 
1.  I suggest you follow my original suggestion.  As far as I know, there is no "deep-seated" problem with Apple mice.  Extrapolating from what you read in these forums and deciding there are big problems is roughly akin to visiting a hospital and deciding everyone in the world is sick.  If you are near an Apple store and it is convenient, take the mouse in for replacement.  If not, call Applecare for a warranty replacement.  Be sure you specify that you feel the mouse has failed.
2.  This post is completely idiotic:
It doesn't make sense to me to call this into Apple Care... since even if they do send you a new one, they'd also have to request that not only do you send yours back in to them, but they would STILL have to charge you a holding fee. And if the r-depot finds out that there is nothing wrong with the mouse you returned (as far as they can see), then that's even more lost $$$.
If you call Applecare and they send you a replacement mouse, you do return the failed one within 14 days.  Apple pays the shipping cost both ways.  There is NO SUCH THING as a "holding fee." The so-called r-depot (there is no such thing) certainly does not waste time trying to debug a failed mouse.  The mouse goes to, I am sure, recycling.
My original post was to keep your from wasting time debugging a problem that is not debuggable.

P.S.  In the years I have been using Apple products, I had two warranty issues.  One was an iMac that was DOA.  That was replaced (through Applecare) at no cost to me.  The other was a keyboard that was acting oddly.  Applecare replaced the keyboard and paid shipping both ways.  I do not work for Apple, but I can attest to the fact that their warranty service is first class.

    Just today, both my iMac late 2013 and my Netbook Pro Retina, both using Yosemite 10.10.2 experienced the same problem.
    The laptop, I restored to an older version from the Airport Extreme and the mouse worked for a little while.... now it's locked up..
    The iMac, SMC reset "seems" to have removed the problem.  So far...  But still trying to be sure I'm executing the SMC reset on the laptop properly.  Looks like more testing for me... yay... (not)

    I have set up a menu with auto action buttons and for some reason mouse clicks don't work. I can click multiple times on a button without anything happening. However, navigating with arrows on the keyboard works fine.

    Are you testing your DVD in DVDSP simulator? If som try building the disc in your hard drive and test runing the VIDEO_TS folder with DVD player to check if the issue is there too.

    Forward and back buttons don't work in Firefox but do everywhere else.

    Make sure that you set those buttons to the default action in your mouse driver software (Control Panel > Mouse or specific Intellimouse driver software).

    I created a form in Acrobat 9.1 using Forms> Add or Edit Fields. The form contains action buttons for next page and previous page, to clear all fields, and (with the generous help of a fellow forum member) to print the form and save it to disk. I optimized the form with compatibility set to Acrobat 8.0 and later, then enabled it for Reader. I sent this form to several users for testing.
    Those using Acrobat have no problems with it.
    Those using Foxit Reader have no problems with the action buttons or the form fields (except that date fields are finicky; Foxit doesn't convert the dates to the correct format the way Reader or Acrobat do). But, the yellow background that I created as a watermark -- so I could make it visible but not print -- is printing. That's not anything that Acrobat can help, but it is a very good reason to not recommend using Foxit. It would create a dreadful shortage of yellow inkjet ink.
    Those using Reader 8.0 to 8.1.2 are having several problems. For them, the action buttons don't work... except the "clear all fields" one. The buttons don't do anything; there are no errors, no messages, no activity of any kind except to change color when clicked.
    The buttons that don't work are all set up as Mouse Up actions executing a menu item... for example, "Go to page 2" is just View>Go To>Next Page. The "Clear all fields" button is, on Mouse Up, "Reset a form" with all fields selected... so it's the only kind of button that works for Reader users, and it's the only button that doesn't execute a menu item.
    Why is there a difference in actions these users can run? If it's a security issue... what possible risk is there in going to the next page, using a button instead of a scroll bar or Page Down key??? I can find no common sense here, especially because Reader users are the only ones barred from these form actions. Everyone else can use them.
    -- Also, these testers (Reader 8+) are having problems with the tab order. Some of the radio button groups (which have no more than three options, Yes, No and NA) at first appear to be tabbing correctly, because the Yes option receives focus in the correct order... but randomly, tabbing through several fields, suddenly the No option will get focus... in a radio button group nowhere near the current tab location. Tabbing is rendered useless, then, because these anomalies are unpredictable and it doesn't appear there's anything I can do to prevent this from happening.
    It's pointless to delete and re-add the afflicted radio buttons. That has no effect... and the radio button groups are already in the correct order anyway. I don't know how this could possibly happen... But it doesn't happen for the Foxit or Acrobat testers.
    • Why would Reader be the only app that can't use the buttons and can't tab through the fields correctly? I'd think Adobe's own software would work best with their own file format. •
    Is Reader 8 the problem --- should those users all update to the newest version? I don't have any Reader 9+ testers yet. Nobody seems interested in it. The testers all assume the problems are MY fault, so nobody's happy with me and no one wants to bother testing the forms because there's always something wrong.
    <hair-pulling> I seriously regret upgrading to Acrobat 9.1.  I know other forum members who agree this thing is catastrophically buggy -- I've wasted  weeks trying to iron out all the problems I've been having with these forms, forms that should have been quick and simple to create, and in past versions of Acrobat, would have been. Yet I'm still tearing out my hair over tab order! Worse, I fear I'm close to losing my job for all the time wasted and all the projects I've fallen behind in because of this. <no /hair-pulling in sight>

    I have no clue, but it might make a difference depending on the form being produced in Acrobat versus Designer. Acrobat will take you both places and one of them may have an issue with backward compatibility. I have not heard of that, but it is a possibility.

  • Left mouse button does not work after last upgrade on one computer.

    Second request -- left mouse button no longer works after latest upgrade. Uninstalled and reinstalled - did not help. Only affected my office computer. Left button works on other three search engines and other programs -- need suggestions...

  • Mighty Mouse button doesn't work in Login screen.

    When I boot up my Mac I can move the cursor with the mouse in the Login screen, but I can't click on anything - the buttons don't work. Once I'm logged in the mouse works normally in every way.
    This only happens with the Mighty Mouse - 3rd party mice work fine in the Login screen.
    I can't see any settings in the Mouse System Prefs that would affect this.
    Anybody got a suggestion?

  • Portal Content Studio - mouse button does not work anymore

    if you use the portal content studio
    content-administration > portal-content
    you can configure the portal objects by browsing them and clicking the right mouse button.
    That worked but now the mouse button doesn't work - left mouse button works as expected (with left mouse button one can navigate through the objects, iViews, working sets, etc...).
    Right mouse button does nothing, portal objects could not be edited. Of course, the mouse is Ok.
    Is this strange error known?
    How to avoid it?
    Is there a possibility to reset this application, so it restarts/re-initializes correctly?
    Even a restart of SAP NetWeaver didn't help.
    Or can one use another method to perform an action instead of the right mouse button?

    The "Auto" protocol doesn't seem to work properly in Xorg 7 any more. In the InputDevice section for your mouse, change:

  • DV6-2177 Right Mouse Button (touchpad) not working.

    I've got a dv6-2177, 3 months old and the right mouse button isn't working.  When I right click, there is no context menu that shows up.  I've reloaded the pointing device drivers but it doesn't solve the problem.  Any external mouse that I connect will work fine but the built in right button is useless.
    Any idea what the problem is?

    I have the same issue. It has been driving me nuts for months. I have tried everything, and done a LOT of research. The left click brings on the context menu on the desktop and in a few other instances. The right click does not work AT ALL... even if you try to set it up as a tap-a-touch feature (so it is not the hardware), and also the windows lose focus, until you hit the start menu key, or control alt delete, if it is being really stubborn. I have an HP G7... only 6 months old. HP or Synaptic needs to fix this!! It makes my laptop almost useless and definitely frustrating to use!!

  • Quicktime high cpu, and buttons don't work

    Hi, I'm mainly intending to use quicktime to export files to a readable format by my mp3 player. When I open a movie, click file, export, and then options, none of the bottons in the window will work besides the Fast Start/Fast Start-Compressed Header/Hinted Streaming Settings. All other buttons on the page won't work. They interact to the mouse clicks but nothing changes. This is the only screen that buttons don't work in, its fine with other things in quicktime. The CPU usage for quicktime is really high, always in the 90's, even when nothing is happening. And in task manager, quicktime's priority is automatically set to low, I never did this. It's the only program that acts up like this with the buttons, but other programs' priorities are automatically set to low as well. I've scanned for spyware, adware and viruses. Quicktime used to work, now it doesn't. I didn't change anything. I have quicktime's latest version.

  • "Archive" and "View" buttons don't work after folio update

    Hi all,
    I have a subscription to the professional edition and I have built a custom viewer app for Android. I have built about 10 folios and at first download all is ok, the folios are displayed without problems and the app works fine except for one issue: "Archive" button don't work, when I tap on it, near folio cover, nothing happens, the folio does not disappear from folios list.
    But the serious problem occurs when I perform a folio update from Folio Producer ('Update content' from adobe dashboard DPS): both "Archive" and "View" buttons stop working, nothig happens when I tap tap on them and I am forced to uninstall and reinstall the application on tablet (.apk file) to see folio changes in my custom viewer.
    This is very annoying as well as time expensive.
    Tablet is Samsun Galaxy Tab SII with Android 3.2.
    Any help is appreciated.

    To the best of my knowledge, the SII is a smartphone and not a tablet device, and the official claim is (correct me if I'm wrong) that DPS on Android is corrently tablet only.
    Anyway, it seems strange to me so checked and found out that even though the DPS apps are not available when you search for them in the Play Market of a smartphone you can still force load them to the phone and run them.
    I've done it on both a Samsung SIII running Android 4.0.4 and a Samsung GT-I9070 running Android 2.3.6 (I currently don't have a device running Android 3.2)
    The interface is so small that it's hardly possible to use it, but it works.

    Something else you can try.
    In Finder hold down the option/alt key while selecting the Go menu item. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
    Restart and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop. 
    If the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer ones.
    If you want to make your user library permanently visible, run the below command in Applications/Terminal.
    chflags nohidden ~/Library/
    You will need to do that after any updates.

    I'm on Firefox 3.6.21, and I got this problem today after a Greasemonkey update (To version 0.9.10, apparently).
    Disabling Greasemonkey solved the problem, and re-enabling it reproduced the problem (middle-clicking links to open in new tab did not work, merely highlighted the link).
    I should also note that while Greasemonkey was enabled and the bug was affecting me, Ctrl+Click to open links in new tabs was also broken.

    EDIT: It appears this is a known incompatibility/conflict bug between current versions of Greasemonkey and Tab Mix Plus. Read more here:

    Flash buttons don't work in any real sense of the word,
    anyhow. Why are you
    using them?
    If you want to use Flash for navigation, consider this -
    1. Some people don't have Flash installed - what do they do?
    2. Search engines don't parse Flash links - your site will
    not be spidered
    3. Screen assistive devices don't parse Flash links - what
    will those users
    do?
    4. DW cannot maintain links within a Flash movie, so if you
    move or rename
    a linked file, your navigation will break - what will you do?
    It's usually a very bad idea for these reasons...
    This problem is due to the fact that you are placing the
    buttons into a
    Template file. In this case, and assuming you want to inherit
    all the
    problems, make the links to the buttons ROOT RELATIVE.
