TS3212 I cannot install iTunes onto my Windows 8 Vaio laptop

Hey Guys!!
I have spent the last five hours scanning every single forum, Apple or not to try and find the solution to my problem but thus far have been unsuccessful.
I have recently bought a Sony Vaio with Windows 8 operating system. Initially my computer would not download any iTunes file however with some tinkering I eventually managed to get it to fully complete the download however it then would not allow me to start the installation. The Windows Smartscreen told me that the file was unsafe and could not be verified even though my Norton Anti-Virus informed me that the file was perfectly safe to open.
I then decided to disable, only temporary, the Smartscreen function so that I might be able to then just open it up to install the file but now it asks me to verify the file and then it does nothing.
I have tried writing the file to discs, I would try another browser other than IE9 however the same problem is happening to my Mozilla Firefox download! I have tried USBing to another PC and then copying across. I have even tried getting a set up file from my older laptop and seeing if that would work but nothing does.
I would really appreciate some input and potentially a solution!
Many Thanks,
Jade

Hello there JadeMB,
From what you are describing here, it sounds like you may have the 64 Bit version of Windows 8 so the 32 Bit installer for iTunes will not work.
Here is the download for the 64 bit version of iTunes:

Hi!! I finally found a solution
I´m Sure this one will work for everyone
-First you have to uninstall all Apple Software using Control Panel
-Download Unlocker Software from softsonic heres the link http://tinyurl.com/3e8gj2h
    or google it
    -Install Unlocker
-Go to Start and type this in search: %programdata%
-ProgramData window will open, so find apple folders
-Right click in each apple folder and find Unlocker in the options
-Choose Delete each apple folders (with unlocker program)
-Go to My PC, C Local Disk and find Program Files
-Look for Apple folders and Delete them (with Unlocker)
-Find a Folder (in Program Files) called Common Files
-Delete all Apple Folders (in common files) with Unlocker
    - Empty your trash can (thats what i did)
    -Reboot
    -Install Itunes
Note: You can Reboot or use Safe Mode to use Unlocker if it doesnt work.
    ....and that's All
    AFTER Days of frustration LOL
Good vibe, Love and Blessings for all!!

  • TS3212 I cannot install iTunes 10.6.3 on Windows 7 (64 bit). I redceive the following message - "The installation package could not be opened..." Tried opening in safe mode - no luck. Anybody have a solution?

I cannot install iTunes 10.6.3 on Windows7 (64 bit). I keep getting the following message: "The installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows installer program." Anybody have a solution?

I'd first try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
If you use Firefox instead of IE for the download (or vice versa), do you get a working installer?

Okay. Even though you're getting a different error message, try the procedure from the following user tip:

  • I cant install Itunes on my windows 8 laptop. (unspecified errors encountered)

I have tried to install Itunes and Icloud on my windows 8 laptop. I have hunted all through the laptop and see no sign that any apple product has ever been on this laptop, yet iget errors during the install process that causes the installer to abort the install and go right to finish. I have tried to install Itunes repeatedly and it always fails at the same point. Icloud also fails to install. I get a message that says errors have been encountered, but no indication of what those errors are. can anyone suggest a fix for this? or tell me what it is I am doing wrong?

  • Having A REALLY hard time installing itunes on my Window 7 laptop

Alrite so this is like day 2 for trying to download itunes on my window 7 laptop!
I click run and yes to everything and then when the whole itunes+quicktime pops up to download its gets all the way to the point where it says "Publishing product information," it seems to freeze close to the end of the bar and it takes several minutes and then
"An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft. VC80, version="8.0.50727.4053" ,type="win32" ,publicKeyToken= "1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b" ,process or Architecture="x86"" .Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x800736FD."  Pops up
    Please Help Me With This!
    Thank you!

    HRESULT: 0x800736FD
These ones are typically caused by underlying problems on the PC that also often cause Windows Updates to fail to install. If we can fix the Windows Update trouble, we can usually get the iTunes trouble cleaned up en passant.
Go into your Windows update and try to check for new updates. If updates install, stock up on the ones you're behind on, restarting the PC if requested to do so. After the restart, try installing iTunes again. Does it go through this time for you?
If windows updates fail to install, go into your Update History and doubleclick the failures. What alphanumeric codes appear for you? Are they also 800736FD, or a different error code? If they're different, what codes are you getting in Windows Update?

  • Cannot Install iTunes 9 in Windows XP Pro 64-bit

    Okay, here's the situation:
I was an early adopter of Vista, in its 32-bit form. Ran fine, lasted a long time. Needed more memory, so installed Vista 64-bit a few months back as part of an upgrade to a larger boot disc.
Initially, the version (whatever it was) of iTunes installed and worked okay, but after an upgrade of Windows and iTunes (done at the same time) killed the whole thing. It installed correctly, but when I ran iTunes, it would hang.
I know about relatively short hangs while trying to connect to the iTunes store, as well as the potentially hours-long hang during the 'gapless playback' process, but these hangs were for more than 12 hours in some cases, and required that I manually end the program.
About a week ago, I decided to go back to XP Professional because several updates had created an unusable environment for iTunes, even with deleting everything Apple and starting over multiple times.
With a clean Windows XP Professional 64-bit install, I thought I might have a chance. Turns out, I was wrong.
I downloaded the latest iTunes 64-bit package, only to be told this is for Windows Vista 64-bit only. Fine. I downloaded the latest iTunes 32-bit package and was greeted with a message that suggested I download the 64-bit version. Are we sure Microsoft didn't buy Apple somewhere along the line? This is not the sort of nonsense I have seen in about 15 years experience with Apple products.
Next I looked for any tricks or tips that might help me do what I wanted. I learned Orca is more than a Sea World attraction, and many other new things. At the end of the day, I cannot find any way to successfully install iTunes 32-bit or 64-bit into Windows XP Professional 64-bit.
Is there anyone that has successfully installed the latest iTunes (32- or 64-bit versions) into XP Pro 64-bit without hacking, cracking or smacking their system? Anyone? If so, I would love to hear how it's done.
It's painfully obvious that Apple never tested this O/S or they might have fixed the problem before releasing iTunes 9.
Although my iPhone contract ended about two months ago, I'm not rushing out to get a new phone until this problem is resolved. Currently it is essentially a paperweight as I have no access to some application updates that will only complete when it is tethered.

Follow the directions here.  But the problem is that the I-tunes installer calls for the wrong file name so… if you rename the file named “AppleMobileDevice64.msi” to “AppleMobileDevice.msi” it should install.  When it says “iPod service failed to start…”  run this patch then click “retry” it’ll work fine.  Merry Christmas from Lokie!
P.S. Please repost the patch thanks

  • TS1424 I cannot install iTunes on my Windows 7 PC without it taking over all my applications and replacing their icons.

I initally installed iTunes several months ago to sync with my iPod. In July I got an iPad and switched to wireless internet service. At some point iTunes decided to take over my Windows 7 (Professional) PC computer! If I uninstall iTunes, everything is fine, but I have to restart the computer to reset my icons. As soon as I reinstall iTunes, it takes overf all my desktop icons and software programs.
I have run disk scans, malware, virus scans; I have unintstalled all Apple products and then tried re-installing iTunes to no avail.

First I'd set up a System Restore point. Then try applying the LNK registry fix from the following document:
File Association Fixes for Windows 7
Does that get your icons back to normal?
