How can I get the iPhone icon to show on the iTunes screen. I want to check some music for loading into the phone, can't locate the phone icon.

Plug the cable into the iPhone and into a USB port directly on your computer, not a USB hub. Also make sure that you have the latest version of iTunes.

Next to "Applications" on the left side of iTunes, there is a "2" implying that there are 2 apps that have updates available, when I click on apps and I try to check for the updates, iTunes says there are none available. Any suggestions?

I saw that this morning too. Look at the bottom right corner of the iTunes window while you're viewing the Applications. I believe there will be 2 buttons, one of which is to check for updates.
Not sure if this is quite accurate or if it helps (I'm doing this from memory!)

Without knowing what was going to happen, I clicked on the backup from my iPod and then I lost everything I already had in my phone: mostly contacts and pictures. Although afraid of the answer, is there a solution to retrieving the info, especially the pictures?

by any chance did you do a back up to iCloud? if not there isn't a way to retrieve lost info with out a back up.

I have an iphone 4 which worked perfectly before. I went through the update process to the latest OS and now I can't get it to progress beyound the iphone setup screen. itunes sees it fine and reads it fine but whichever option I pick it goes through the process, gives me all the progress bars etc and goes through the motions of restoring from backup but then it just loops back to the setup screen. Can anyone help please?

yes did you buy it of somebody or a well known company such as apple or carphone warehouse?
and i mean the phone would have been activated in the first place with the sim card you get given when you first get the phone.

I was attempting to upgrade and now my iPhone 3GS will only show the iTunes screen and I can't use it.

I used the methods listed on the forum to upgrade my iPhone 3GS 5.0.1 to 5.1 and it appeared to be downloading through itunes but I got an error message when it was done downloading and attempting to upgrade. If your iPhone had been in use before, it sopunds like it has reset itself.
If not, that you must connect it to your computer with the USB cable and set it up with iTunes.

If you are having the same issue on several computers then it is a hardware issue! Not a software issue! Replacement is the only resolution!

I have tried holding down the home and power button countless of times. It doesnt respond at all. Plug my phone to a charger and hold down the power button and my phone switched on. But it said Activation Required and said connect to Itunes. As e screen remains on the connect to Itunes screen, I disconnect the charger from my phone and my phone went dead instantly. My battery is full btw. Tried connecting to Itunes through my Macbook Pro but iTunes doesnt detect my device and the apple logo flashes for about a few seconds on my phone and then disappear and then came back on again. My Iphone has been connected to my laptop for about 30 mins and the apple logo has been coming on and off for 30 minutes now and Itunes has not detect my device yet.
