TS3274 Get a message on emails "can't send or receive emails; server failed

Before sending and after receiving an email I get a message "cannot receive email server failed" / I can hit "ok" and the email sends anyway; how can I fix this aggravating message?

Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
There could be a couple causes for this and I will include a couple solutions. Sometimes the account credentials need to be authenticated and can cause this message. Try forcing all applications to close and power cycle the device. Two step verification may be enabled causing this error, try checking if this feature is enabled, disable and test. The last solutions I could recommend would be in the second article and third article below.

Mail says it can't contact the mail server of my ISP. If I do a restart I'm told I have to close mail myself. When I start mail I get a message that it can't contact my ISP's server. What should I do?

I clicked on my mail icon and got the installation wizard screen. I went through with the installation, despite being worned that the certificate for a strange server "plesk" had expired. I got my mailboxes back and the ability to read my messages, but now if I try a restart I get a message that Mail can't connect my ISP' mail server and that I have to close Mail manually. I find I can "ping" the server with the utility. I have had a screen warning that my privacy might be invaded. What should I do?

Can you send email ok via the Apple Mail application?
The username and password are set in the Accounts section of the Mail application. Start Mail, select preferences and select Accounts. Then make absolutely sure that the username, password and outgoing mail server are entered correctly.

I need to forward some photos and I keep getting this message " the email server didn't recognize your user name or password.

First go to iPhoto's Accounts preference pane and delete the email account that's there. Close iPhoto, reopen and add your email account to the Accounts preference pane and try again.
Next, and IMO the better solution, set Mail are the email client for iPhoto in iPhoto's General preference pane:
This gives you better access to your contacts, a sent copy and, if you need a layout like iPhoto gives you, similar layouts in iPhoto's stationary option.

You need to set it up once in iPhoto-> Prefs -> Accounts b/c not everyone who uses iPhoto has or uses Mail.

When trying to send a group of photos the e-mail requested my password. Apparently I gave it the wrong one. Messages (-1) error - can't send or receive messages

Haven't been able to send or receive messages since last night. Error shown in link below. Really strange. Don't remember doing anything in particular that might have caused it.

Dankton, pls ignore the No Sim thing. Its the same error with the sim also, I've taken out the sim and put it into my old 3GS that lets me send/receive msgs. The error is the same with or without the sim.
Can't even access all my old messages.

It would also help to head to Settings -> General -> Date & Time and make sure it is set to Automatic. You could also try using Google's DNS servers as doing so has resolved the issue for a number of users. Head to Settings -> Wi-Fi and tap the > next to the network you are connected to. Scroll down to the DNS fields and enter in8.8.8.8and 8.8.4.4.

Since I installed Lion I get the message "The disc can't be burned, because the device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media " when I try to burn a DVD.

Is this just a coincidence with a drive failure or is it a problem with Lion?

Then I received an email from Telus saying I had used my 3G instead of Wi-Fi using 75% of my data. How can this happen when I'm on Wi-Fi at home? It doesn't have to be that complicated, Verizon iPhones come unlocked, just tell VZ you're going on Holiday/Traveling and suspend the service, no need to pay for service if you're not going to be using it. Pick up local SIM cards in the countries of your choosing, pop them in, re-activate iMessage and you're set!
I recommend getting a SIM card from the Three network in England, they have great EU roaming rates and free like-home roaming in Italy.
Set your phone's region to match the country you're in, it'll save from some headaches when calling local/international numbers.
To answer your questions,
1. If you choose not to have a local SIM card, it is good to keep your phone in Airplane mode to save battery.
2. Make sure the two iPhones have different names to reduce sync/restore issues.
3. If husband has an iPhone also, you can chat with iMessage/Facetime, just give him heads up about the new number you'll have. Otherwise, use Whatsapp if he's got an Android. You can activate Whatsapp with your American number or the international number if you choose to get a SIM in Europe.
Also, Get the MagicJack app and/or Google Hangouts, both of those apps provide you with free calling to the USA and Canada using any internet connection. Google Voice is another good way to SMS across the seas.

I have Aperture3 and iPhoto. When I try send video clips as attachments, I get a message saying Quicktime can't open the .avi - why? Others couldn't open them so I sent them to myself and get the same message. Doesn't seem to be a size issue as I've tried with really short clips (4 seconds). As I recall, I didn't have this problem before buying Aperture last fall, when I only had iPhoto. It appears that by default, an attachment to an email automatically comes from my iPhoto files and not Aperture - assume that is supposed to happen but not sure. Thanks for any and all help!

How are you tryin to send the .AVI file? Are you sending the attachment directly from Mail or from Aperture or iPhoto?
