  • With the "7" how do I close the apps that are running in the background.

How do I close background apps?

On the iPad (don't know about the iPhone) you can use four or five finger swipe up to access the multitasking screen to close out apps. To use this option you need to turn on Multitasking Gestures in the Settings window:
Saves having to hit the Home button twice...

  • TS3274 how do you close an app before turning your i-pad off?

How do you close an app before turning off your I-Pad?

Thanks so much!  That was exactly the answer I needed.  When my I-Pad froze yesterday, I called an Apple Store near me and spoke with a tech.  He walked me through the steps necessary to unfreeze it.  When I asked what might cause this, he said having too many apps open can be the culprit.  I thought merely shutting my I-Pad off, automatically closed the apps too.  Not so.  He then explained the steps necessary to accomplish this, but I forgot which buttons to push.  He also suggested doing this at the end of every day as one way to avoid the "freeze".  Since I didn't know this little trick, and have had my I-Pad for over a year, I had quite a few apps to close.  So, thanks again and I'll write down the steps this time.

  • How do I close out apps with the new o.s.?

It had been a while since I updated my O.S. now with the new one I can't figure out how to close my apps. to save my battery. I used to double click the home button and then hold down on the apps till they "wiggled" and I was able to close them. I can't seem to do that now since I updated.

Double click the home button, and then swipe up the thumbnails that appear on top of the icons

How do I close aps that stay open on my "updates" page

    You don't.
They will drop off after a month.
It's a way to keep track of recently updated apps.

  • How do you close iPhone apps that don't seem to have a close button?

How do I ensure that an application is fully closed out?
IM+ is an example but I would like to know in general. IM plus somehow runs in the background but sometimes I want to disable it completely I"m not sure how. Same goes for facebook or safari even. My concern is that I thnk the phone slows down when too many things have been opened. Is there a way to fully force all applications closed short of rebooting?
    Thanks.

3rd party apps do not run in the background on the iPhone. Apps like IM+ that 'seem' to run in the background do not - your chat account is kept active by the server (not the phone) and/or push notifications via Apple's push notification server are used to alert you that there is server-side activity for the app.
So, you would just need to exit the app, and if you want to turn off notifications, use Settings > Notifications.
Also, note that you can force-quit an app - press and hold the sleep/wake button until you see the power-off slider, then release the sleep/wake button and immediately press and hold the home button for ~6 seconds, until you're returned to the home screen.

  • HT201365 How do I close off apps that I have open?

Help I don't want my battery to waste away!

They changed it a bit, but you can still close apps. Double click the Home button to pull up the currently running apps. Side scroll over to the app you want to close, then swipe up on the app *window* (not the icon at the bottom). Now most of the time, unless the app is stuck and running crazy, it shouldn't hurt your battery too much to have apps open; the OS is smart enough to only allocate resources to the active apps.
