Did it go to sleep? Try tapping the home button once.
Did you exhaust the battery? The iPad only stays powered for 8-10 hours.
Have you plugged the charging cable into the iPad and it's charger and plug the charger into wall power to charge the iPad?

I have a power G4 with a Cinema Display monitor with Cinema Display power adaptor. I was watching a movie and during the movie the screen went black. I could hear the movie playing and could adjust the volume. I power the computer down and tried restarting it and still I have a black screen. Assuming that the battery isn't empty (and it can take up to 15 minutes of charging before it will respond), then have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds, after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

My iMac went black while installing 10.8, so what should I do now?
I can hear that the computer is still running, but moving the mouse does not cause the screen to come back to life. it's been about half an hour. Should I manually turn it off and restart it? I don't want to ruin the installation process and create a nightmare. what is safe to do?
I recently updated my iPod with the 01-10-2006 Updater which totally ruined my iPod. It freezes my iPod, it skips songs, it tells me that it's playing a certain song when it's not. It won't turn off. So, I've decided to take a chance and restore my iPod to factory settings and update my iPod with an older version of the updaters. I am using the one before this recent updater came out. Since I am only restoring my iPod, this will not affect my iTunes Music Library. I am going to transfer my library back into my iPod and see if this works out. It seems to be transferring just fine. My thing, I really think that the updater is what has something wrong with it. Maybe you should try downgrading to an older updater as strange as that sounds. But the only way to do that is to restore your iPod to factory settings using the old updater. And make sure you have your wall charger handy because you'll need it. GOOD LUCK!!

hi, my ipad 2 went black, when i using safari..but it has back light on. i tried reboot with home and sleep key, and it didn't work. still black without white apple logo!! help!!

Try connecting the iPad to its wall charger for half an hour to be sure it has enough juice to get started. Then try the reboot again.
If it still does not respond, your iPad may be defective. I suggest you take it to an Apple Store Genius. If their diagnostics show it to be defective, you should get a new one on the spot.

Plug it into an electrical outlet let it sit a few minutes. Then try performing a hard reset, by holding the home button and the lock buttons at the same time until an apple logo appears.

The screen on my iPhone has gone black while I was using it. It just "shut off". The phone is still working as I can hear/see it when it plugs into the computer, but the screen just wont turn on. I've tried the soft reset "holding down home and lock screen" and i've tried to restore settings. I went to the apple store and they said I had to send it to my provider (in another country) but my phone contract has run out.
Is there a way to fix this?
If not, is there some way apple can replace the phone? It's less than 2 years old. Surely the screen shouldn't just give out like that.

If you are using Apple's Mail app 6.5 is the latest version irrespective of what a previous poster says. It does sound though that you are using a gmail account online via a web browser. Please confirm and fill in missing information.
