I just sat down at my MacBook that was already connected and running fine. The device powered off and the charger is only showing a dim flickering light at the connection. Device will not power back up. Any suggestions or fixes?

  • Apple refuse to replace stand that is not 1 year old, any suggestions other than throw mac in the bin

My mac is not 12 months old until 27 December and the screen will no longer stay up, Apple have refused to acknowledge design fault or machine fault and suggested I broke it.  The machine has sat on my desk since new and never been moved until I was assured the part was covered by warranty and to take it to the nearest authorised repairer, who happens to be 300km away, so after a 600km round trip and being told it is not covered by warranty I took the machine home.  jI rang apple the next day and was assured I had Apple care for another 2 years and it was covered.  So I arranged it with another authorised repairer who ordered the part and said it would be here today or tomroow, now he has just rung to say apple initially accepted the warranty claim but now someone else has cancelled the order and said it is not covered by warranty.  My question is if under fair trading a home pc has a lifespan of 3 to 5 years is a part that fails after 10 months not fit for the purpose it was sold for.  Very disappointed in Apple and whave for sale two Iphones, an ipad and an imac.  slightly used and the screen wont stay up, going back to HP, have never paid for extended care with them and never had a problem either, just thought apple was better, now I know they are just cheap rubbish and dont stand up, lol

Alternately you could write to Apple at their Head Office in Cupatino.   Write, not send eMail (there is no email address anyway and letters are always answered.
This problem has come up several times and your troubles are multiplied by lack of easy access and a time scale approaching the warranty limits.
Apple are rarely difficult if you approach them sensibly and in a moderate manner.   But write now before the warranty date passes and keep copies.   I can't tell what country you are in but in Europe and the UK your claim can be made within two years under the EU fair trading rules.

  • I changed my Apple ID and password and my ipad won't take the change

I changed my Apple ID and password and my ipad won't take the change

If you updated your existing account then try logging out of it on the iPad by tapping on the id in Settings > Store (Settings > iTunes & App Stores on iOS 6) and then log back in and see if that 'refreshes' the account on the iPad. If you created a new account then any content that you purchased/downloaded via the old account will remain tied to that old account, and only that old account can download updates to its apps.

  • IPhone 5 won't take a charge & won't restore from backup

My iPhone 5 stopped taking a charge. So I updated to 7.whatever & backed it up. It still would take a charge so I went through recovery mode. That seemed to complete (I've done it twice now) However, the phone still won't take a charge and it won't restore from my backup. (Since the initial run through recovery mode it has never accepted the backup. It alway errors out saying the iPhone disconnected. It never disconnected physically and I've tried mutiple cables so which worn on my other iPhone so they are not the problem. If I plug the iPhone in it will cycle between on and off and never accept a charge or allow me to get through the backup process without "disconnecting" Any suggestions?

    Hello GreenLantern17,
It sounds like you are unable to charge your phone and it keeps disconnecting when you have it plugged into your computer, even though you have tried mulitple cables. If you have not already, try charging the phone with the wall adapter that came with it. If it works there,  into I recommend starting with the following USB port troubleshooting for your computer:
Remove any third-party battery packs or cases from the device and ensure that the USB cable is connected directly to the port on the device.
If your Lightning or 30-pin cable is connected to a keyboard, display or USB hub, try plugging it directly into a USB port on the computer instead.
Close any virtualization apps (such as Parallels or VMWare).
These apps may interfere with your computer's ability to communicate over USB if they aren't properly configured, or up to date. If this resolves the issue, contact the developer of the app to see if an update is available.
    Restart your computer.
Restart your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch.
If you're using an accessory or third-party cable to connect your device, try using an Apple cable with the device instead.
Update to the latest version of iTunes if you have not already.
Disconnect other USB devices from your computer, except for your keyboard and mouse. Then, reconnect your iOS device. If the issue is resolved, reconnect the other USB devices one at a time. Make sure your iOS device is still recognized by the computer after adding back each device.
If one of these steps resolves the issue, but it comes back later, make sure you haven't changed how the device is connected. For example, check to see if you plugged the device into a specific accessory, or used a specific cable that reintroduced the issue.

  • My first generation iPad no longer takes a charge.  What does that mean?

My first generation iPad no longer takes a charge; what does that mean?

The genius bar is the service desk at the Apple Store. If there are no Apple Stores in your country, then check the Apple website to find an authorized service provider.
Apple charges US$99 to replace the battery in an iPad (any model).

  • My iPad won't hold a charge ---any ideas?

My iPad won't hold a charge.  It even loses battery while it is on the charge. Any ideas???

Using the battery level meter in this manner is comparable to using your car's fuel gauge to calculate miles per gallon.  The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.
Use the wall-mount charger that came with the iPad and charge overnight.  Admittedly the labeling is hard to read but, if you use a magnifier and squint your eyes, you'll see "Output 5.1V, 2.1A."  The symbol between volts and amps is the symbol for DC.  Do NOT use an iPhone charger.  Do NOT use an iPod charger.  Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear).  An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the exact procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter.
I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem.  I am stating, however, that we don't yet know whether or not a battery problem exists.
    According to Apple:
    Use Your iPad Regularly
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
Elsewhere, Apple elaborates and explains that two half-discharges (or four quarter-discharges, etc.) equals one full discharge.

  • My new iPad mini will not charge when plugged into adapter. Any suggestions?

my new ipad mini will not charge when plugged into adapter. What should I try?

Does the charger get warm at all? Plug the cable into your computer with iTunes open. Does it say not charging.? If it does, the cable is good. The iPad will charge very slowly when pluged into your computer.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. I use my iphone 5 to record home videos. I have an apple tv but dvd burners dont have a hdmi plug in. Any suggestions on how i can burn videos from iphone 5?
I had a av cord that plugged into the iPhone 3gs and iPad 2 but its not compatible with the 5 connector. Right now i have to email myself the videos in small segments and open and save on the iPad 2 to burn them.  Is there an easier way to burn these from my iPhone 5 or through air play on apple tv?
    Thanks

Connect the phone by USB to the computer, import with image capture, iPhoto or whatever application you use to import movies, drop it into iTunes.
