Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
Release the Buttons...
If no joy... Try a Restore...
1: Connect the device to Your computer and open iTunes.
2: If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane.

I have changed my call plan with my service provider from contract to PAYG and have just tried to upgrade my 3Gs to IOS 5.0.1. I have purchase a iPhone 4 and was using the 3Gs as back up.
I set the phone to factory restore as it was being sluggish and I felt a restore would be the best option. The restore went ahead but the phone will not accept that I have a valid sim in the phone and will not activate stating that the servers cannot activate the phone.
The sim is the new PAYG sim given to me by O2 and I had even arranged for the number to be transferred to the PAYG sim. I am at a loss to understand what has happened as the sim will work fine in an old 8gb Iphone 2g and other mobiles. I have not kept the old contract sim so I am unable to insert that to see if that was the problem.
How can I get my 3Gs acitated and working? Do I need to contact O2 or take the phone to an Apple store. Any advice would be appreciated.You need a valid micro-sim. to acivate.

I installed new hard drive and I am trying to restore from time machine external back up. I restarted the computer and held the Command key and the R and the restore utility does not appear. what can I do
Command + R keys are for Macbooks running Lion and Mountian Lion only. ( i could be wrong on this)
you have a couple of options:
Do a clean install of Snow Leopard via Install DVD.
Clone your old hard drive to your new hard drive via Carbon Copy Cloner

My ipad mini will not power off, nor will it respond to any commands. The ICloud Backup reminder (which I do not use and have not activated)is stuck on the screen and will not clear.
Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds and see if you can get it to reboot.

I have just now tried the Reinstall via iTunes, about 20 into the download, the iTunes logo on the phone disappeared, and the Apple Logo appeared again,,, I waited until the iTunes stated that the download had finished, and the install was in progress,,,
Nothing happened, still the Apple Logo was visual on the screen, iTunes never recognised the phone which it was on my iTunes account previously,,,
Still just a bunch of lines, maybe 5 or 6 so small writing,, I personally can not read what it is telling me, someone said it reads, incorrect shutdown,,,????????

I could not open NY Times articles today because Firefox would not let me. I reported this twice. I received a window telling me to update Firefox ~~ and I'm trying to do this. As I said, Firefox download4.0.dmg paused and will not finish the download. It's been over 10 minutes and I don't know how to proceed.
You see the orange (on Linux gray) Firefox button if the Menu Bar is hidden, so you need to hide the Menu bar to get the new appearance.<br />
If you need to access the hidden Menu bar then press F10 or hold down the Alt key to make the Menu Bar appear temporarily.<br />
You can place the Tab Bar on top.

Did you try downloading the movie from iTunes on your iPad? I know it takes longer but I'd try that.
Also try to reset all settings.

I was trying to add and app to my iphone and was not able to do so. It wanted updated credit information. So, I entered it and it will not accept the month of experation. I have shut the phone down, sync it to the computer to update. Will not work. What can I do to continue?

I tried to update my phone. The update didnt go all the way through, and ended up freezing the screen on my iphone with an itunes icon on it. I tried to reboot phone with no success...the icon stays on there with no other function of the phone available. Anybody know of a fix?
Put your iphone in dfu mode by doing this. Turn your iphone off. When its off, hold home and power button together for exactly 10 seconds, then release the power button and keep holding home button for another 10 seconds. Then open up itunes on your pc and plug your iphone to your pc. Itunes should recognize your iphone in recovery mode and it will tell you to restore it. Click restore, and your iphone will restore. Remember that, if you do this you will lose everything that was on your iphone. You can restore from backup later on. Hope I helped.
