The home button no longer works on my iPad2.  Any questions?

No, I don't have any questions. Do you have any?
I have a suggestion though. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen, assuming that you have multitouch gestures enabled to get to the task bar/recents tray. Tap and hold down on any app icon until they all start to wiggle. Then tap the red minus sign in the corner of each icon in order to close them. Close every app in the recents tray. Tap the screen above the recents tray.
Then restart the iPad and see if the home button will work.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • My ipod touch 4th generation keeps lagging, all the apps crash, nothing will update and my home button no longer works?

my ipod touch will not stop crashing, its pretty much un usable now, is it worth resetting to default settings and clearing everything. Its about two years old and the screens been smashed twice and replaced, the home button no longer works, and now its slow and basically nothing even opens or updates. is it the end of my ipods life now ahah.

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. You can't do it
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

      - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Home button no longer working, screen not responding half the time, very slow functioning and random crashing?? What is going on?

I got my IPhone 4 (GSM) a couple of years back, and had never had any trouble with it. As soon as the new updates came out (this past summer), the phone has been glitching out (randomly screen going black, or closing an app by itself, super slow functioning, screen not responding to touch and home button not working anymore).
Help anyone? Makes no sense why it would just stop working.. ??

it depends. i had an iPhone 3GS that was not good in the first place, but functionable. when i got iOS6 it just acted weird like yours. Have you ever dropped your phone or anything? Or maybe you should try closing your apps. For the home button. Go to Settings:General:Accsessibility:Scroll down;Assistive Touch: On. That part is hard to explain but self explanatory,
    i hope this helps!

After my last and latest upgrade to Iphone 5, i can no longer delete open app by tapping the home button twice, and then swiping off the screen.  In effect these apps are open and using data. This has only just occured since the upgrade to ios 7.1.1  After many attempts to press home button twice....nothing happens, and so app are open. Please advise? any answers?

    Hey there 111brownyn
Go to Settings>General>Accessability>Assistive touch(in the bottom)
and switch the toggle on. You'll find now a smaal square around your screen.
Touch it aand perform the double click gesture with the virtual home button on the screen.
I think your Home button has been damaged.
Do let me know if it worked

  • How can i add a function to the Home button?

I'm developing an app and in order to make it work, i need to add a function to the Home button when the user is in a specific screen.

I would not say "impossible", but certainly not an app that would ever be available via the iTunes App Store.

  • Does using the home button in 4s would result to being damage in the long run? I really don't like the assistive.

I do prefer using the home button. Will it somehow be 'damaged' in the long run? I just need assurance. *TIA.

Any mechanical component is subject to failure.  If it does fail, if your device is in hardware warranty, it would likely be replaced.  If you are still within the first year, purchase AppleCare to extend the warranty for an additional year.

  • Is there any way to disable the firefox search option when you long press the home button on Samsung Galaxy S5 Active?

I have an S5 Active and sometimes the home button sticks and registers as a long press which brings up Firefox search instead of going to the home screen. Is there any way to disable Firefox Search so that this doesn't happen. I Love the Firefox browser but if this keeps happening I will have to uninstall it.

hello djpianalto, you could clear the default settings for firefox on android within the system settings (like described in this [http://www.howtogeek.com/195885/how-to-set-and-clear-a-default-app-on-an-android-device/ external article]).
or try an app like https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=hk.sld.SwipeLaunchDisabler

  • The home button on my iPad is no longer working.  To get to a new app I have to turn off the iPad and restart it.

The home button on my iPad is no longer working.  To get to a new screen or App I have to turn the iPad off and then restart it.

Try calibrating the home button and see if that works. If it doesn't, you could also try restoring with iTunes. Try this first.
    Calibrate the home button
    1. Open a stock iOS app, such as Contacts
    2. Press & hold the sleep/wake button at the top of your device until the red slider control appears.
    3. Immediately release the sleep/wake button and press & hold the home button. Hold until the red slider disappears.

  • My iPhone 4 home button no longer works, the phone works perfectly otherwise but the home button does nothing. How can I fix this?

    Help me!

You can add a virtual button that you can use - heres how:
First make sure you are on version 5
    the go to SETTING>GENERAL>ACCESSIBILITY>ASSISTIVE TOUCH
You will then have a button on the bottom right hand corner screen that is always there (you can move it around if its in the way). Pressing it will allow you to go to the home screen.
Good luck - it happened to me too and this was a life saver  - I booked it into be seen at the Genius bar but by the time my appointment came through  (it took a few days) the home button started working again - literally just as I waas in the shop!  Think it might have just got a bit sticky as my 2 year old was playing with it.

  • When I press the Home button the iPad won't return to the home page. I have to press hard or press down for a long period to get it to change. sometimes I turn it off and on again to be able to access the home page

When  I press the home button my iPad won't go to he home page. It is as though the button isn't working properly?

Try this to calibrate your home button:
Open a stock iOS app (e.g., Clock). Once the app is open, press your iPad’s power button until the ‘slide to power off’ screen appears. From that screen, press and hold your Home button until iOS force quits the stock app you have open. You’re done!

  • I restored my ipod but it was taking 2 long so i hit the sleep button and the home button at the same time now it wont turn on or connect to itunes

    - See if resetting the iPod will make it visible in iTunes so yu can restore the iPod.
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next see if placing the iPod in recovery mode will allow iTunes to see the iPod so you can restore the iPod. For recovery mode see:

  • Should i use the home button normally on daliy basis , or i have to use assestive touch to keep more long life for home button

is the home button durable or after some time will be lost

I have a 2+ year old iPod touch.  I'm always closing apps that I don't use in order to minimize background activity that uses battery power.  I've noticed that the home button has become much less responsive recently, no doubt because I'm compulsively hitting the home button to close unused apps.
Thus, the answer to your question is that it depends.  If you are like the vast majority of users, it will not cause a problem.  If, however, you have this strange compulsion to close apps, then it may degrade the response of the home button.  On my iPhone 6, I'm using assistive touch to avoid this.
(Note: I'm aware of the many posts stating that keeping apps open doesn't use up the battery or confuse the operating system.  I'm hard-headed, though, so I just keep closing apps.  By comparison, my wife routinely has 20 or more apps open along with 30+ Safari pages at any one time.  Different strokes for...)
