  • I have an iMac that has no connectivity with the mouse.  I have replaced the batteries in the mouse.  As a result, we can not use the computer as the mouse won't move

I have an iMac which the mouse has lost connectivity.  Batteries on mouse have been replaced and green light on mouse is on.
I can now use the computer as it does not respond to mouse or it appears to the keyboard.  Just not sure if it is a problem with the computer its self?
    Thanks

I would highly recommend you run a test by trying another mouse with the iMac and see if that fixes it.  That would tell you the problem is Not with the iMac itself.
    Hope this helps

  • Help!  Can't get rid of unwanted volume; machine won't shut down

    Hi everyone,
This afternoon I used my Maxtor backup (external firewire drive). After I was done with the backup, I clicked "eject" on the disk icon. I may have physically disconnected the disk too soon after that because I got a message saying the disk might have errors on it because I didn't properly eject it. But I didn't worry about it at the time. Tonight when I attempted to shut down my Mac, it would not shut down... and I discovered that there is a volume on the desktop which is the entire contents of the Maxtor back up. I cannot eject it or discard it, and I have the feeling that is the cause of this problem of not being able to shut down. What do I do? The volume does NOT appear on the disk utilities, so I can't reformat it... In any case, it's not really connected to the computer. Feeling a bit scared. Everything else seems to be functioning normally... Help!

Thanks Klaus. I actually fixed this right after I wrote the post. I manually shut down the Mac, then turned it back on, and the volume was gone. I should point out that when I had the Maxtor hooked up to the Mac, I was getting two volumes for one Maxtor drive -- one looked like the regular hard disk icon, the other (the one that wouldn't go away) was a folder with the same title (Maxtor) and was identified in the "Get Info" command as a volume. I was able to eject the regular icon Maxtor, but never the folder. I guess this was some kind of ghost volume... In any case, shutting down the Mac manually seemed to get rid of this problem.

  • When I try to shut down Mail, it won't shut down.

Subject says it all...I tried installing httpmail so I could access hotmail via "Mail" and it was a fiasco, didn't work correctly, so I uninstalled it (I think) and now when I open Mail, it won't open (I have to go to "WINDOW/MESSAGE VIEWER" just to see the main Mail screen, and then when I try to quit Mail, it does nothing. Help?
    Thanks a lot....
    Andy

I don't know what is it that you've done, but httpmail.mailbundle definitely shouldn't be there if you did really uninstall it, which makes me believe you didn't properly install it in the first place either. Try this:
    1. Quit Mail if it's running (force quit it if necessary).
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong -- e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down.
    3. Move the Bundles folder to the Trash.
    4. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences/. Locate com.apple.mail.plist and move it to the Desktop (to be deleted after fixing the problem).
    5. Open Mail. You'll have to set up your non-.Mac accounts from scratch all over again. If given the option to import existing mailboxes or something like that, don't. Just enter the account information and Mail will automagically rediscover the data in ~/Library/Mail/ when done.
You'll also have to re-configure most of your settings in Mail > Preferences. For spam-related security reasons, the first thing you should do is go to Preferences > Viewing and disable Display remote images in HTML messages if it's enabled.
    6. As a side effect of re-creating com.apple.mail.plist, Mail may have renamed Outbox (which is where messages waiting to be sent are stored) to Delivered. The name of that mailbox is actually a misnomer, as it would contain messages (if any) that couldn't be delivered for some reason. You can delete that mailbox if you wish.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the file path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the file path there.

If it's just a question of memory, you can buy and install more. It could also be that your iMac is just not compatile with Lion.
    Minimum requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space

You can go to icloud.com, open Mail, click on the gear shaped icon on the upper right and choose preferences, go to the Vacation tab and set up an auto response saying that the account is no longer in use.  Then go to Settings>iCloud and turn Mail to Off on your device and stop using the account.
Incoming email to the account will receive your vacation auto response, and eventually the mailbox will fill up and no longer receive mail at all.

downloaded 10.9  all well 'til I get desktop and can't enter my password, message of error, and it shuts down:  reboot and error reappears"your computer     restarted because of a problem. touch any key.....etc'  75-yr-old needs guidance.........running 10.8.5 til today................????????  Can run in safe boot, but what do i do now ???  thanks
MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3), Intel core i5 2.3GHz

Well, after some thought, I did a 'safe boot', did a disk verify and repair in Disk Utility, repaired permissions in DU and had the same problem I'd mentioned in post.
SO, I went back in (safe boot.........that is, hold down start button, then 'shift') and went to applications and removed or uninstalled any apps that I thought might be interferring with the re-boot or, specifically, with my being unable to sign in with my p/w.........(at the first key stroke, it would crash and give the 'error' message)....I had both Webroot and Dashlane installed that I thought could interfere with password recognition (Webroot protects from viruses, et all and Dashlane is a password codifying appl.) I took out whatever else I thought might not be friendly and, guess what ?? When I signed out of 'safe' mode, and rebooted normally, it worked.........and has been working properly for 3-4 hrs now, so guess it's good-to-go..........seems like it...........hope this helps anyone with the same problem I'd had...........no need to visit "genius bar" some 55 miles from here............guess us mid-seventies guys ain't too old for learnin'...........G'Day, Mates !!
