TS3276 Connect to internet via browser over Airport Express, but Mail app can't connect to internet
Hi - I just moved to a new apartment, and I have an Airport Express that is allowing me to connect to the internet through a browser, but Mail keeps telling me that it can't connect to the internet. I'm guessing it has something to do with the network settings for my Airport Express? Not sure what the right configuration should be. Thanks!
In Mail, from the Window menu select Connection Doctor - any feedback there? Within the window click on Network Diagnostics to see if it offers any clues.

Please try a full, extended modem reset and power cycle of the network as follows:
Push the reset button on the modem (if present)
Power off the modem
Pull the battery (if easily accessible)
Power off all other network devices, order is not important
Wait at least 30 minutes
Make sure the Ethernet cable from the modem is connected to the WAN port (circle of dots icon) on the AirPort Extreme and re-install the modem battery if it was removed
Power up the modem first and let it run for 4-5 minutes by itself
Power up the AirPort Extreme the same way
Power up each device one at a time about a minute apart
Check for operation
If problems continue, I would have the device checked out at the Apple store. -
Airport Express 7.6.2 Can't Connect iPhone 4
Just purchased a new Airport Express (2nd gen), 7.6.2 firmware.
No iPhone 4 or 4S can connect. Neither can a 2011 Macbook Pro, only my 2011 Macbook Pro can connect.
I've replaced the router.
My iPhone 4 can see the network, and appears to be able to join it sometimes, but never gets an IP address assigned. When the network name is tapped, it shows the "processing/thinking" swirly circle infinitely, and never can actually connect.
I've turned off security. I've messed with 5 and 2.4 settings and a/b/g/n settings. Nothing is working. Help!Seriously? Everything is communicating as usual on their network and a reboot is perscribed?
Okay. I'm also having this issue. Nothing has changed on my network. My daughters' notebooks, my son's PC, my server, my workstation, my notebook, my netbook, my xbox 360, my PS3 and any of the twelve refurbished PCs I have for sale in my shop (I work from home with my shop attached to my house) all connect without fail. I have up to 253 devices alloted for in my IP scheme within my router and I even went as far as to assign my iPhone a static IP address with all of the correct gateway and DNS info. I get no WiFi connection at all; I only see an indication of 3G. When I go back to DHCP and an IP address is shown, it is 169.254.168.99 with a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0 and no other info.
Any real help would be greatly appreciated. -

Annoying mail app "can't connect" pop ups
Whenever I have bad 3G signal and I open the mail app I get lots and lots of network error pop ups from each of my email accounts. They are really annoying. Can they be turned off? Could Apple eliminate them definitely? Please!
Remember - these accounts are working over SSL with Thunderbird and in Mail.app on an old machine that I just set up mail on after these problems began. That said, the exact message for the SMTP connections is:

I live at Uni, and our only access to the internet is through the ethernet ports in our wall. I got sick of not being able to use my laptop away from my desk, and draining my data while in my room. It works fine on my laptop (using it now) and both my iPad and iPhone 5 are connected however only certain apps work (weather, safari, facebook, etc) while retrieving hotmail emails and connecting to Whatsapp aren't possible.
How do I fix this?

Please, someone help me. I couldn't play any games on my ipad 2 anymore because I couldn't connect to the server. I reset my password but the Cannot Connect To Game Center server continues to appear. Can anyone give me a solution? I'm a Scrabble Junkie and is in serious pain right now!
on my iphone 3gs, i had the same error. i finally found help that worked on the internet. “Go to Settings > General > Date and Time > Set Automatically > On. My setting was set to 'OFF' (no idea how). I changed it and now i can log into game center, the app store and itunes once again.

New Airport Express: iMac loses printer, apple Tv connectivity
I just replaced my netgear router with a Apple Airport Extreme Base Station (late 09).
My set up is as follows:
iMac 24" wireless to AEBS
Printer and harddrive connected via USB hub to AEBS
Apple TV connected to AEBS (via power extender)
Airport Express connected to AEBS (via power extender)
Slingbox connected to AEBS (via power extender)
I use Airport Utility 5.5 that came with the AEBS.
After a while, I can no longer print to the AEBS connected printer. When I then check my system, I also have lost the Apple TV in iTunes. I no longer see the AEBS in the Airport Utility. Also, the symbol for AEBS in the Finder (under shared) has changed from the AEBS icon to the generic server icon. I can also no longer see the AE in the Airport Utility.
Despite losing all the Apple devices, Time Machine still backs up to the hard drive that is connected to the AEBS, wireless internet still works, and I can still connect to the slingbox (but not to Apple TV).
The only solution is to restart the iMac, or restart the AEBS.
The whole set up worked perfectly with the Netgear (including wireless printing using AE). The only reason I bought the AEBS was to get the back up facility linked to the router, as well as better range.
I must say the experience has been disappointing so far.Hmm I don't know actually, maybe if that happens by default, because I don't know what that is.
As to the neighbouring networks, I wouldn't think so? No other networks, not even my own primary network, appear in the Wi-Fi list on my MBP. It's in the room just next to the room where the Apple TV and Airport Express are. That room is even further away from my main Access Point on my middle floor than the room where my MBP is. -

Do you mean to say you already have a wireless network setup and thought by buying the Airport Express you just could use it for wireless music alone?
The Airport Express is chiefly a wireless router first, with the wireless music and printing as extra's.
It can be used for streaming music alone, but I think it needs to talk to network time servers and thus it gets screwed up over time not being on the internet. Also by your using your computers wifi for music streaming, no internet with your other router.
So it's a all Airport Express or back to a stereo mini cable. -
Hello, I'm trying to connect my new TiVo XL4 box to my home network via an ethernet cable connection to my Airport Express but the TiVo box is not seeing the network. I have a green light emanating from the Airport Express so it is connected. Please advise.
If you have not already done so, I suggest that you temporarily disconnect the Ethernet cable from the AirPort Express that goes to the Tivo box.
Instead, turn off the wireless on a laptop and connect the laptop to the Ethernet port on the Express. See if you can get an Internet connection on the laptop.
If you still cannot get an Internet connection on the laptop, try another Ethernet cable that you know is working correctly.

I have mobile internet at the moment via a USB stick in my laptop. Can I connect my Timecapsule with a cable to this laptop and make it into a wifi station so that I can use my iPad?

My Airport Express shows the solid green light. I am also able to connect to it and use AirTunes on my HiFi.
However I cant connect to the internet. If I plug in my laptop to the router directly the internet works fine. So it is not a router problem.
Any idea?After following your instruction, I am not able to connect to the airport express anymore. I can still see the network but it is somehow unable to read the IP address.
When I try to get to the Airport utility it shows the base station but do not let me get into the configuration and shows an error message -4.

Voicemail is left at your carrier's server. That will continue to work unless you report your iPhone as lost or stolen with your carrier.
You may never find it again and you can't if the iPhone remains offline or out of service which means the iPhone is powered off or doesn't have cellular reception.
