TS3276 default reply email address

I am running OSX Lion.  I am changing my email account and want to know if there is a way to set my MacMail so that ALL emails are replied to from the NEW account and not the account that they were sent to.  I have changed my Preferences for "Send new messages from" to the new account but when an email comes to me from the old account and I select "Reply" MacMail wants to send the reply from the old account and I have to manually change the account to the new account.  Is there some way to set the default REPLY TO account to the new account?  Thanks.

Depending on the mail provider, some will change the from address to the server email address being sent through. I know GMail is like that. Try with one of the other addresses and change the smtp server to the new account's server and check the box to use only that server with that account.

  • Defaulting the email address in From field.

    Hi ,
I am working on requirement to default the email address in from field and populate the eligible emails ID 's as drop down in from field based on some condition. So I need to overwrite the standard emails data that are already coming in from field. Please see the attachment for your reference.
    I did below analysis.
    Component:CRMCMP_CCS_EML
    View:Email header
    Method: DO_PREPRRE_OUTPUT.
I achieved populating the drop down values..by populating the values in   typed_context->mail->gt_default_from_addresses.
But my requirement is to default one email based on some condition. So I populated the default value as first entry in the  drop down list box so that it will automatically default.
It's working as expected if we have personalizing setting for Drop down list as 'Default'.Please see the attachment for your reference. But it's not working if we have settings like 'By Value' and 'By Key'.
Ex: If I have two emails in GT_DEFAULT_FROM_ADDRESS like .[email protected],CC(First entry Default)[email protected](Second entry). if I use the settings 'Default' it's default with [email protected] if i use other setting it's defaulting with [email protected]
Could any one has any idea how to handle this..and options that we have in this case.
Or is there any other field I can default for From Field. (This should work for New ,Reply and Reply all )
I appreciate your help on this.
    Thanks,
    SaraSAP.

    Hi Sara,
I believe that selection is controlled by attribute typed_context->mail->GV_SELECTION_FROM.
So, when you populate the possible entries in typed_context->mail->gt_default_from_addresses, just try to fill your desired default value in mentioned attribute and check if that works.
    Kind regards,
    Garcia

  • Changing default outgoing email address

So, my AppleID is an @me.com address.  I created when I was still in college and put my birth year into the ID out of frustration that [email protected] had already been taken; for the purpose of this we'll call it [email protected]
I've since recognized the value of having an email address that doesn't broadcast one's age and created a more generic alias in the account, we'll call it [email protected]
Previously, on both my iPhone and my iPad, I was able to select "[email protected]" as the default outgoing email address in Mail, a much easier way to always send from that address without having to manually select in the FROM drop down menu.  Now, in iOS 5 with iCloud, that doesn't seem to be the case.  It always wants to use my main AppleID, "[email protected]"  The only way to change it is to manually select in the drop down menu every single time I send an email.
I've looked through every iCloud and Mail setting I can possibly think of.  Suggestions?  Thanks!

Under Settings, Mail,Contacts,Calendars, for each individual mail account, what are your SMTP settings?
When you tap on an account, then tap on the Account Name on the next screen, then tap on SMTP, you will see all the SMTP accounts you have set up.  If you want an account to only use a particular SMTP server when sending from that account or replying to messages received in that account, then you need to set that desired SMTP account as the primary server, and turn all other SMTP servers OFF.

  • Adding a Default Reply-To Address

    Hello all,
Is there any way to set a default reply-to address? I always want to send via .Mac but it won't let me set my redirection email address in the From. So I always want my reply-to to be an alternate address.
    Thanks,
    John

the method shown in the thread about adding a message
    receipt
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=71
    3245#713245
should also work for a default reply-to header (of
course, you would use "Reply-To:" instead of
    "Display-Notification-To:" when running the command
    in the Terminal).
I'd really like to have a Default Reply-To Address - have tried the suggestion above, but can't make it work.
I quit Mail, opened Terminal, copied in
    defaults write com.apple.mail UserHeaders '{"Reply-To:"="[email protected]";}'
pressed return. Re-opened Mail, but no joy.
(I tried it with and without a colon after Reply-To.)
Is there a step I'm missing?
    Thanks for any help.

  • Default outgoing email address

I have several email addresses and would like to link a specific address for individual contacts. Is there a way to set a default outgoing email address for specific contacts?

Thank you SO MUCH for this information. I've read so many other places that the default email address is the address listed at the top of the Preferences>Accounts list, and yet, whenever I send an email, it gets sent from whichever account is highlighted. I've never been able to figure out the discrepancy. I'm so glad I looked deeper and found this post. Thank you!

  • Setting default outgoing email address

I have multiple email addresses that I use in Mail, on my MacBook. Most of them are gmail accounts. Two are godaddy accounts, with personal domain names. I want to have a "main" one (a gmail account) that all my mail goes out from. If I'm in the "wrong mailbox," it goes out from that mailbox, hence getting missed by people, who have rules set up to look for email from my main email address.
So, I followed the instructions, in the help setting, which said:
How to change the default account and "From" address
    Mac OS X 10.0 through 10.1.5
The default account when composing a new message in Mail is the one listed first in the Description column of Mail Preferences. To change this default, you only need to change the order of the names.
    Follow these steps:
    1. Choose Mail > Preferences.
    2. Click Accounts.
    3. Drag account names in the Description column to change their order. The account that is listed first is the default account that is used whenever you open a new mail window.
Mac OS X 10.2 and later
The "From" address for a new message will generally be the same as the "To" address of the message that is currently selected. If no message is selected, then the "From" address associated with the currently selected mailbox will be used, if there is one. Otherwise, the default "From" address will be used as described above.
This is not so, so 10.6.3 Mac OS X. Does anyone know how to make my "main" address the default outgoing email address, whatever address box is highlighted?
    Thanks in advance!!!!!

    Hi,
Mail > Preferences > Composing > Send New Messages From. This will be your default address for all outgoing e-mails.

  • How do I set a default From email address when I write or reply to an email

I have more than one email address. I am using Windows 7. When I write an email or reply to one, Thunderbird always seem to use the same address even if is not the address that the sender of an email used. There must some setting that made this address a default. I would like to change the default. I know I can manually select the address I want, but like to have a different one for the default than the one Thunderbird is selecting.

I understand that you want each of several email accounts to act independently, such that mail for account 1 is sent and received only on that account, then account 2 likewise, etc.
For each email account, left click on the account name and then select 'View settings for this account'.
On the 'Account Settings' page, look at the 'Reply-to-Address' (should be blank) and also select the 'Manage Identities' box, which shows the default name and email address. If the default is not for that account, you can add or edit the entries and set the default.
Back on the 'Account Settings' page, select 'Outgoing Server (SMTP)' and check the user name/account there. It should be for the same account.
For each account, the other accounts should not be mentioned in any of the places identified above.

  • Default outgoing email address for multiple emails

How do I set up one of my many email addresses on my I-phone to be the default outgoing email for all of them?

If you have set up one of your email accounts to be the default, all emails sent from outside of the email app will be sent from that email address.  The default email account will be used if a new email is created in the All Inbox.  If you reply to an email or initiate an email from within a given email account, I guess it assumed that you want it to go out as that email address.

  • Default outgoing email address is wrong, how do I change it ?

I've been using Thunderbird successfully for several years with 6 different email accounts - 1 gmail account, 2 yahoo accounts, and 3 accounts on another domain.
Recently I added a new gmail account for a project I'm working on.
Now, the default email address defaults to the new account, which is not what I want at all.
If I'm replying to or forwarding emails or writing new emails I want the address that I'm sending from to default to the mailbox that I'm currently using, replying from or forwarding from.
If that just isn't possible, I'd be happy if it defaulted to my general email address (the first one I had) but I certainly don't want Thunderbird to use the email address for the new account, which my project colleagues want only to be used in connection with the project.
How do I resolve this, please ?

There is an assumption thast if you are viewing emails in a particular account and then select Write, that you are wanting to Write an email to do with the account you are viewing, so....
If you are viewing emails in account A and then click on Write, the FROM email address will be Account A,
If you are viewing emails in account B and then click on Write, the FROM email address will be Account B,
you can set any account as default.
This will be the one positioned at the top.
    * Tools > Account Settings
    * Select the account name
    * click on 'Account Actions'
    * click on 'Set as default'
    * click on OK
If you want to reorganise more than just setting the default account.

  • How to set default Reply-To address

    i'm using mac mail 3.6.
occasionally I get email bouncing back as undeliverable and the reply to address is not my email address.
is there a way to create a default Reply-To adress as in Entourage?

I don't know why this happened. this is some weirdness on the other end with the server that bounced your emails. but the emails did come back, right? do you have any evidence that when people reply to your emails regularly they are actually sent to wrong addresses? if not you should leave it alone. I don't believe there is anything wrong with your mail.
P.S.to test this further select any message in your sent folder and go to view menu->message->raw source. does it have any weird emails in it? because a reply will based on the address contained in the raw source of your message. if there is nothing strange there the problem is on the other end as I said.

  • Setting default send email address/account

I have 2 pop email address' setup in my BB. How do I set which is used for outgoing email messages?

    Welcome to the forums
For replying, it will default to the account that received the email. For new emails, go to Options>Advanced Options>Default Services, and set the default "Messaging (CMIME) to the email you prefer over here and save.

  • Setting the default respond email address in Yosemite Mail

In Mavericks I was able to set the default email address to my new address when I was replying to mail sent to me using an older address I am transitioning from.  However this behavior got changed after installing Yosemite.  In Mail Preferences -> Composing I do not see any place to create a default email address when responding.  Only for new mail.  I was wondering if it is possible to change this via command line in Terminal?

Whichever account mailbox is currently selecting in the mailboxes drawer will be the account used when selecting New to compose a new message. If no account mailbox is currently selected, the first account listed in the account's window at Mail > Preferences > Accounts is the default email account.
Tiger Mail includes a true default account selection for "Send new mail from".

  • REPLY Email address in triplicate! Why?

On my Intel Macbook (but, I think, not on the Intel iMac in my office) I have two or three email correspondents to whom, when I hit REPLY to respond to one of their messages, their reply address appears in the To: window in triplicate. In order to not send 3 messages back to them, I have to delete two of the addresses or, at least, it appears that I do.
This only happens with a few correspondents. I think they all use MS Outlook or Outlook Express. For most of the people I reply to, a REPLY email gets addressed to only one address, even though they are mostly also using a Microsoft email client.
Any idea why this is happening and how to stop it?

    David,
I receive very few messages with any Reply-To header, and then only if also seen in the Default Headers. This includes messages received from Thunderbird, and is the case whether viewed with Long Header or Raw Source displays. It would seem that very few people sending to me intend a reply to other than the address listed in the From Header.
In Raw Source, the first header listed is normally (if not always) the Return-Path Header.
According to RFC 2822 at the link below, the Reply-To field is optional:
    http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc2822.html
In this same source, Return-Path seems to be a required part of the trace fields. However, Return-Path will contain whatever is in the email client preferences, as the address, even if that address is "spoofed". It would seem to be an accurate reporter of what is in the address entry of an account setup.

  • Reply Email Address

I am running Exchange 2010 with various versions of Outlook and I would like to change the behaviour of the reply address.  I accept multiple domains into my org and I would like to see the reply address to be the same as the original recipient address.
So, if I receive an email at [email protected], I would like the reply to have [email protected] as the reply address.  But, if I receive an email on [email protected], I would like the reply address to be [email protected]
Is this possible?  I know that Exchange only identifies one default reply address and normally, that is the one used, but I would like to change that if I can.  I looked at address rewriting but that seems to do the opposite of what I want - it
will change multiple address to one address or it will use a different default address ofr specific individuals.  I want multiple reply (primary) addresses for a single individual.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Agree with Willard. Exchange server always uses the primary SMTP address as the reply address, and one mailbox has one primary SMTP address. What's more, if you have multiple email addresses, incoming messages can't indicate which address is used actually,
it only displays the primary SMTP address in the To field. So I am afraid that there is no other way to achieve your goal except for separating mailboxes.
Hope my clarification can be helpful to you.

  • Send email from MobileMe alias, not default MM email address?

On my iPhone I have MobileMe email. It uses the default email address/username that I signed up for .Mac/MobileMe
Is there any was to use one of my aliases to send emails from the iPhone rather than the default email address?
In the desktop Mail app I just changed the email address in Preferences to the alias I wanted to use. But in Preferences on the iPhone the email address is greyed out, so I can't change it.

I have asked MobileMe live support this exact question and the response was that it is not possible at the moment but it is on the table as a possible future update.
