TS3276 hotmail smtp outgoing server not working

I have been unable to send emails from my Mail account as it continues to say SMTP server is offline.  Has only been happening in the last 2 weeks.  Any advice???

It sounds like your Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) is not set up correctly.  I would suggest ypu open Mail>Preferences>Accounts>go down to the line on the lower right of the window that says "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)>click on the drop down arrows at the right end of that line, and click on the "Edit SMTP Server List..."> in the following two available windows make sure all the settings are correct as to Port, Password, Server Name, etc. as stated by your ISP.

  • Outlook 2007 - hotmail not not populating in outlook - incoming/outgoing server not working

Hi - I am switching computers and have reinstalled Outlook 2007.  When I add my account  it asks for incoming/outgoing mail server information from my ISP.   I am unable to look on previous laptop set up as the "repair"
portion of account is not highlighted and I can't get to that level to see it. I contacted my ISP (Comcast) who provided: Incoming Server: mail.comcast.net and Outgoing Server: smtp.comcast.net.  They also provided incoming mail server: port
number 995 (POP3) 110 (POP3); and outgoing mail server: 465(SMTP) 587(SMTP).   This is not working.     Who has a solution?
P.S. Comcast is my new provider as of 3 weeks ago and no issues with old laptop--also that would not have been my incoming/outgoing server information then.  thank you

  • Mail SMTP (outgoing) does not work after Yosemite upgrade

I have just updated Yosemite on my Mac and MacBook Air and the outgoing mails cannot be sent - the SMTP-connection fails.
It worked fully Ok few seconds before the upgrade was started.
So, I wonder if anyone or Apple can help on getting the Outgoing mails to work again.

For those of you having email password issues, I'd suggest:
    1) Close your mail client (i.e. Apple Mail, Thunderbird, Outlook, etc).
    2) Launch "Applications" > "Utilities" > "Keychain Access.app"
    3) Select "login" from the sidebar top left area, then select "Passwords" in lower left area
    4) Click into the Search box in the upper right and search for your ISPs server names.  For example, type "aol" or "google" or "comcast", etc.
    5) Look through the search results for password entries related to your SMTP (outgoing) or IMAP/POP (incoming) mail servers.  Select them and delete them.
    6) Open your email client and try to receive mail, and then to send mail.  You should be prompted to enter your mail username and/or password.
Hopefully this might fix issues for those of you using mail clients that use Keychain for credential storage.

  • Why is my outgoing server not working?

I have my laptop apple mail set up with a few accounts. Im able to get incoming mail but i cant send emails. It says the server is not working.
What can i do to fix this issue?

    Hello anmlsrmnml,
Fortunately, Mail has a built-in tool called "Connection Doctor" that can give you further information about Mail's inability to send messages. This can be accessed from the Window menu -> Connection Doctor.

  • Outgoing server not working now

i have a mbp and g5 desktop. both mail programs are setup the same. my mbp mail's outgoing server is not connecting or working all of a sudden....worked yesterday fine. my g5 is working fine. my mbp is wireless....my g5 is hardwired into the modem. any thoughts?
i havent moved im in my house it worked fine yesterday and the past year. anythoughts?

What does “is not connecting or working” mean? What’s the problem exactly?
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list. Try also turning OFF all the network port configurations except the one needed to connect to Internet and see whether that makes a difference — if it doesn’t, turn ON again the ones you want enabled.
Also, try using a different method to connect to Internet, if possible, or connecting the computer to Internet as directly as possible, i.e. bypassing any routers that might be present, using an ethernet cable instead of wireless, etc.

I've tried everything gmail help suggests but to no avail...

Have you use the correct outgoing server - smtp.mail.me.com and SSL is required. I would suggest removing the account and starting again, following the instructions applicable to Leopard in this page:
    iCloud and Snow Leopard

    In my MacBook Air:
I quit mail, opened my ~/Library, opened the Mail, V2, MailData, Accounts.plist.
I find the offending mail account, change from <false/> to <true/>

But the same issue keeps reoccurring, because the change from <false/> to <true/> is never Saved.
No issues with mail in my iMac desktop.

Yeah i think it's a relatively common issue my grandpa has it with both his aol and gmail accounts. i do  know that mail issues are at the top of the list for bug fixes on tap for 10.10.1

Hello, and welcome to the Discussions.
I get 100% success pinging mail.adelphia.net, and if at your home venue where Adelphia is your ISP, then I think no separate Authentication is required. Port 25 would be the proper port. However, if you are not at home, and the provider of internet connection limits you to using only authenticated SMTP then you would not able to use mail.adelphia.net as the Outgoing Server.
Are you at the venue where Adelphia is the ISP?

  • When defining the Outgoing SMTP Server, why does specifying the "default" SMTP server not work, but only the first server specified?

I have several options for SMTP outgoing server. I set one to default and try to send. it fails and uses the first one in the list.
I restart Thunderbird and try to send. It uses the first one in the list.
I eliminate all SMTP servers from the list but the one I want, and it works.
What am I missing, this I have observed this problem on all of my systems for a long time?
    Regards,
    Carl

what your missing is that account have an SMTP sever associated with them, which if your "in" an account over rides the "default"
Right click an account folder and select settings.
Click on the account name in the settings and on the right is a drop down list and the "default" smtp for that account.

  • TS2621 why my outgoing mail server not working after ios 6 upgraded

why my outgoing mail server not working after ios 6 upgraded

Ask your carrier to send you the settings over wifi and then install them that way.
I'm on giffgaff and I used the giffgaff app from the store to sort this out.
Overall though I must say Apple has let itself down on this as why isn't something written in the ios script that keeps the original settings??
Very Poor indeed and I held off using Apple products for years for this very reason!!

  • MAIL problem - telefonica smtp outgoing server

First sorry this is on the safari board. Couldn't find the one for mail!
I am on holiday and the ISP I can find (public) is Telefonica. I have tried the standard smtp outgoing server (smtp.telefonica.net) but even on this I keep getting a "address rejected by server'. I've tried different servers but I think telefonica is fairly tight about that sort of stuff. I think the problem is a password and username is needed however I can't get these.
Is there any way around this, perhaps setting up a personal smtp server, or someway of bypassing their outgoing mail restrictions? This is my first mac so I'm a little bit stuck...
    hope you can help!

Ok fixed it. For anyone else having the problem of a not being able to send outgoing mail with a public ISP do the following.
    1) setup a gmail account and record password and username.
    2) Set up a new server in mail: "mail/preferences/accounts/outgoingmail server (drop down)/edit server list"
    3) add a new server by clicking on 'plus'
    4) server name is 'smtp.gmail.com'. check 'use custom port' and enter 587. check use ssl box.
    5) in Authentication drop down, choose password then enter your gmail username and password.
All this worked for me after fannying around with loads and loads of far more complicated things! Hope this helps someone like it did me!

  • Dealing with two email accounts that use the same SMTP (outgoing) server

    Folks:
re:   mail.app  5.2 (MacOS 10.7.4) with respect to POP accounts only
I've read this thread multiple times, spent many hours experimenting, and my web searches haven't come up with any more useful help.
How do you persuade mail.app to accept settings for two similar, but distinct email accounts that use the same SMTP (outgoing) server?   Say, the accounts are "blue.example.com" and "[email protected]". These have different user names and passwords.   The SMTP server is "smtp.example.com".
I think this is the appearance of success: the SMTP Server List (as seen in edit-the SMTP-Server-List mode) shows:
Server Name                   In Use By Account
        smtp.example.com      [email protected], [email protected]
(Description column omitted for brevity.  And of course, mail.app doesn't show the little envelope icons.)
But I cannot reliably achieve this result.   When I select the SMTP server from the list for the second account --as suggested in the above-referenced thread--- I see the credentials (user name and password) for the first.  Should I overwrite them?  No, I don't think so -- I think that will break the first account.   I feel mail.app should present me with empty credentials boxes instead.  Maybe this happens -- sometimes.  But I can't see how to make it happen.  Am I simply overlooking something?
A slightly different way of asking about this issue:   Suppose  I manage to do a proper setup for the two accounts and they work.  Then I change the password for "[email protected]" on the server. What is a reliable way of reaching the SMTP credentials for that account to make the edit?  Same question for "[email protected]"?    Even when I successfully attach two accounts to one SMTP server, I seem only able to reach the first listed one to make changes. (In this case, "blue.example.com").
It is possible I'm missing something incredibly obvious...    I know the credentials for each account are distinct, but maybe mail.app copies them from the POP (incoming) settings.   Nah, that can't be, can it?   Or what?
Maybe I'm seeing bizarre things due to scrambled mail.app preferences.  I've seen it before on other apps: delete the current preference file, get an auto-generated fresh one, and sanity returns. But with mail.app, with the prospect of losing years of emails --yeah, I've done it--  I'm extremely reluctant to mess around.
    Suggestions, please.
    TIA

OK, I'm convinced.   The mail.app UI is BROKEN -- in my primary user account.  Such that it cannot reliably select an outgoing server for editing.
I created a new user account and installed some relevant example accounts in mail.app in that account.  No problem. Well, a bit obscure, but still fully logical and reliable selection of individual SMTP accounts for editing.
For the sake of clarity, I think it is best to mark this "answered" and repost, focusing on the symptoms and asking how one might go about repairing the problem.  So I'll do that.

  • Can't get Godaddy outgoing server to work in Mail - OK in Outlook

No matter what I try, I just cannot get the Godaddy outgoing server to work in Mail, but it works OK in Outlook for Mac which I don't really want to use if I can avoid it.
I've tried all my 3 accounts and none of them work with sending.  All Ok receiving.
Tried smtpout.secureserver.net with and without SSL, and with all sorts of ports 80, 3535, etc.
    Nothing works.
Can anyone suggest any solution or more in depth troubleshooting methods.  I feel it's some security issue which Outlook seems to have more settings for.
    Thanks.

Just for clarification for the OP these are two different approaches to get to the same file.
1.)While holding down the option key, >>Shows the hidden  users Library (~/Library.)
    or
2.) select Finder>Go>Go To Folder from the Finder menu bar. Paste the line into the window
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Using the Go to Folder option will take you directly to the file itself in your user Library (~/Library,) no option key necessary.
    Eric Root wrote:
Move the folder com.apple.mail to your desktop. You must move the entire folder, not just the contents.
AND if you are recommending moving the entire folder you are better off going to the /Container:
    ~/Library/Containers/
