TS3276 How do I request Read Receipts in Mail?

Other mail programmes like Thunderbird allow me to request a read receipt so that I know the email has been received and read. I connot find this useful function in Apple's Mail. Am I just missing it?

There's every likelihood that your recipients' email clients are configured to ignore receipt requests, though. There's nothing you can do on your end to guarantee that your recipients will even see the requests, much less respond to them.

How do you set up read receipts in mail on OSX Mavericks? I've looked under settings for the mail app but can't see anything that I can 'turn on' to get an indication when an email has been read. Thanks for any responses in advance.......

    Hi, there.
Unfortunately, there's no such feature on Mail. No version of it has ever had.
Besides that, read receipts are not good at all. It is up to the recipient whether or not to send a receipt. So you will never know if the recipient never read the email or just didn't send a receipt.

  • How to set up read receipts?

how to set up read receipts?

Mail can send a read receipt request:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1183650
However, note that read receipts are extremely unpopular, because of privacy issues as well as abuse by spammers (verifying addresses by using read receipts).  Most savvy users have this feature turned off, if their e-mail client even supports it, which many don't.  So not receiving a read receipt tells you absolutely nothing.  That makes the entire read receipt system pretty much useless.
Mail will not, ever, respond to a read receipt request.

    Thanks!

Not sure if it works in Mountain Lion.
Note that those only work if your recipients have allowed it to happen.
Also, Mail will not respond to them at all.

delivery and read receipts from mail - how do i do it? i used to do this on pc from outlook..... just new at this stuff... thanks

Hmm, had a bit of a look round but it doesn't look like it's particularly straightforward, esp if you want to turn it on or off on a per mail basis:

By the way, the problem happens with the account of MS Exchange service, I don't know if this is the cause of the problem.
I think yes.  The encoding is being corrupted somewhere, probably Exchange.  There is nothing you can change on the iPad other than the OS languagel, to see if that helps.  You can also tell Apple at

  • Read receipts for mail

Is there any way to get a read receipt with Mail like there was when I had Outlook in a previous life? Cant find how to block a read receipt when requested either. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

The Mail application does not include a read receipt request for sent messages nor does it provide a read receipt without your knowledge when requested by the sender of a message when opening a received message.
I consider this an invasion of privacy. A minor one but an invasion of privacy nevertheless.
Via the Terminal, you can have Mail "request" a read receipt for all sent messages but this will work only if the recipient's email client supports this and the recipient enables the option.

  • Can I get a Read Receipt with Mail, like in Outlook?

Can I get a Read Receipt with Mail, like in Outlook?
    W.W.

It is possible, though not through the GUI. And as Dave points out, asking for a receipt does not mean that you will get one. The magic incantations for requesting receipts are detailed, amongst other places, in this article. It requires using the Terminal, and once set affects all messages you send until you unset it again.
If you search this forum for read receipts (the topic surfaces frequently) you should find a helpful Applescript for turning them on and off, to save using the terminal.

  • Read receipt on mail

Anyone know how to include a read receipt tag on a Mail Email?  The program doesn't seem to have that feature.

Check "Generate 'Read Receipts' in Mail.app".

is there way to get read receipts in mail and do you get non deliverable notifications??

I'm a little fuzzy on your question.
If you are trying to "Bounce" and email, I regret to inform you that Apple removed that feature a few years ago.  There are other email programs available that have this capability.

  • TS3276 How to send a return receipt request?

How do i set up an email to send me a notification when the recipient opens it?

Mail doesn't nativel support such things. If this still works, you can add a header that will request the read receipt, but it will be for every email you send: http://email.about.com/od/macosxmailtips/qt/et_request_recp.htm
Since most email clients either disable this by default or don't support it at all (like Mail), you will only know if you get a positive response. If you do not get a read receipt, it has little bearing on whether the person read the email or not.

Since Mail does not support read receipts, I wonder if any workaround would actually work?
That used to work to send read receipts, but I don't know if it still does. The failures the OP posted indicate a malformed command, not that it won't still work.

  • How to Request Read Receipts in Mac OS X Mail

    Hi
Would like to be able to know when the people I send email to actual read that email I send them. Is it possible to setup a option in mail so you get a receipt from the person who reads your email.
    Thanks

Mail doesn't support read receipts. But you can do an "all or nothing" deal using Terminal:

The iPhone includes no such option for a read receipt with SMS or MMS. Contact your carrier.
