When you compose a new message, use the Bcc field to enter the addresses.
If you don't see one, you can enble it by pressing this button and selecting BCC Address Field.

In the contacts app there really isn't a way to do this. What I do however, is create a note in the Notes App with the email addresses of the people I want to email to like this: [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]
Then when I want to email that group, I just use the copy feature of iPad, pasted it into the to line in an email and voila, I can email to a group.

Even if you find a way to send the request for a read confirmation with the email, you are dependent on the recipient's mail system and/or mail reading software to notice it and comply with it. Many do not do so, either because they cannot or because somebody has disabled (or not enabled) the feature.

Additionally, even if Mail supported it, the recipient would have to allow/consent to sending you the receipt - if I were the recipient, I would certainly not allow it. If you are sending legal or other very important files, use the "return receipt required" feature of US Mail - you will get a receipt that it was accepted with a signature.

I am 63 yrs old and not to computer literate. I know how to send an email to multiple people using my contact list and groups on my IMAC. I tried using a group name downloaded to my Ipad2 from my IMac. It does not work. If I choose a single email address it works. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

You are not doing anything wrong. The feature that you need is totally lacking in the built in Mail app on the iPad.
There are a couple of third party mail apps that will let you do this ... MailShot and Group Email with Attachments. You can check them out in the App Store.

Actually, there does not need to be an address in the To: field.
eMail without a To: address generally arrives as addressed to "undisclosed recipients".

I send out a news letter for the Lions Club and involves 30 different people. Sometimes I get an undeliverable message and I don't know which address did not get delivered. How can I find out which one was not delivered so I can make sure I have all the correct data.

Don't you get a full report? the message text look like this from my isp.

If it is a group of contacts that you send to regularly you can create a mailing list. Here is how to set that up.

When you send a message through iMessage on iPad 2 wifi to an iPhone mobile number, how does the recipient know who the message is from as the iPad 2 wifi has no téléphone number... Does it show thé Apple ID?

Try turning off iMessage and back on again. (Settings> Messages)
