TS3276 Mac Mail rejecting correct password for incoming only

My e mail has suddenly started rejecting my password even though it is correct. I can send but cannot receive e mail. This has never happened before but I have no incoming messages on either my Mac or my iphone.

Something seems amiss if both your Mac and iPhone starting having this problem at the same time. Was anything changed in anyway?
Are you sure the outgoing mail is going to the correct server?

  • Problem in Mail:  rejects correct password

My e-mail account won't connect in Mail (although I can open it fine on the web), even though I repeatedly put in the correct password.

Open Mac Mail then Command ,  (comma) to open Mail Preferences.
Select the Accounts tab then the Account Information tab.
Type in the correct password under Incoming Mail Server.
    Try your email account.
If that didn't help, open Keychain Access located in HD > Applications > Utiliites
    Select Passwords on the left.
Use the search field top right corner of the window to locate your email keychain then control click the keychain then click Delete.
Go back to the Mail Account Information window and re type the password under:  Incoming Mail Server.
You should be prompted to save that data to a new keychain.

  • Ipod touch rejects correct password for home wifi/router

My ipod touch can get unsecured wifi ok (sometimes, which is another discussion) but when I set up a Linksys wireless router at home, my laptop is able to use the wireless but the ipod touch sees the router's name, but rejects the correct password. (I did doublecheck the password by going into the IP address for the Linksys.) Why would my ipod touch not be able to access my own secured network when using the correct password? So I spent some time with Linksys on the telephone and they had me put a long number that they saw in the wireless security tab into the password line. Now there is a check beside my router's name, but I get the message "Safari cannot open the page" when I try to surf. The error was: Operation could not be completed. Invalid argument". I tried a couple more apps (Weather channel, google map, facebook) and the time circle just keeps going around. Why is my ipod touch not working, here?

Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?

Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router

  • My correct password for Mobile Me is rejecting. Can't get my mail.

A couple days ago when I went to open up my mac email, it kept asking for me to sign in, but then it rejected the password.  The message I got was "The iCloud IMAP server “p07-imap.mail.me.com” rejected the password for user (my user name)". My correct password for Mobile Me is rejecting. How do I correct. Please note - this is on my laptop going through airport. My main desktop computer is receiving mac mail fine, but when I try to open my mac mail through the web, I can't sign on through the web. I get the rejection message.

  • Mail rejects correct Keychain password data

Intermittent problem Number Three with Mail since Leopard 10.5.x: Mail reports that the server rejects log-in data from Keychain (or possibly ignores existing Keychain data).
I've got Mail checking three mail accounts: Two on the same (POP) mail server, and one Gmail (IMAP) account. Sometimes, when checking these accounts, I get an alert that the log-in data were rejected by the server, and am asked to re-enter the data.
If I re-enter the data, it usually just fails repeatedly; the only solution is to cancel the log-in attempt, take the account offline, then back online and check the mail manually. Subsequent automatic log-in attempts are usually successful; unless they fail.
This happens most often with the first of the three accounts, though it's been known to happen with all three.
I have read advice to others with similar problems which points to a corrupted Keychain. This is quite possible, though I've run Keychain diagnostics which return no errors.
This problem began quite some time ago on my Powerbook G4, and has persisted as I migrated my mail data to my new MacBook Pro.
If anyone has any suggestions or insight, I would be interested.

  • Mail: The POP server rejected the password for user

I am completely unable to use Mail.
I keep getting the "The POP server rejected the password for user" on two of my accounts.
The password has not changed and I have entered it correctly.
The accounts just will not go online.
This started yesterday when an old machine accidentally fired up mail and tried to connect using the same user details. Since then, my MacBook Pro is not able to connect to my mail.
My iPad and my iPhone can. There is no problem at the server or the ISP. I have also run the Keychain repair utility.
Please can you advise how I should fix it? Plist? Define the accounts again?
    Any ideas welcome.
    Thanks

Sorry I can't be of help, I know of others with this problem. In my case I have two accounts that don't work in Mail whilst the other accounts do. I suspect it may be a bug as I've been looking for a solution for sometime. My current solution is to collect the mail on those accounts with an XP netbook which is probably not very helpful!
I have also tried the Keychain repair and at least for a short while it looked as if it had fixed it.
Any ideas anybody before I go through the hassle of reinstalling everything?

If the setting is greyed out perhaps you have restrictions enabled that would prevent someone from changing accounts. Settings>General>Restrictions>Allow Changes>Accounts.

  • Mail rejects my password

Upgraded to Lion fairly smoothly. All seems to be OK (hate the monochrome finder icons..another stupid change like removing the blue progress bar with SL) Main problem is mail rejects my password on my imac but it works fine on iphone and ipad... bloody annoying. Any solutions?

Well I was posting back to Gary for more information.I have no idea what email providers you or Gary are using and don't know what help to give. If this is a .mac or .me account and you migrated to iCloud, it could be a very different situation.
Just because you're using the same information as SL, it doesn't mean that something might have changed or is not input correctly. For your other issues, you might either follow other treads or start another.

  • The POP server rejected the password for user

Hi Im new to this forum but need help! I can usually fix most things on my mac but the last 2 weeks mail will not recieve any incoming messages as is just says "The POP server “mailin.macmail.com” rejected the password for user “****”
I have looked at other postings and tried keychain etc but nothing will work. This happens with 2 accounts one from macmail and one from NTL (my ISP) I can send mail fine (no password) and can go on to webmail and get my messeages fine on both accounts.
Does anyone have an answer for this?
    Many thanks

  • The IMAP server ... rejected the password for user ...

When I went to bed last night, Apple Mail (Lion, MacBook Pro) worked fine on my home IMAP server, as they have done for some time.
This morning, I cannot log in and I now get the following error message:
The IMAP server “...” rejected the password for user “...”.
The password is definitely correct.  I have typed in the password repeatedly (although it was already correct) to no avail - I just get the same error message again.
    Since then, I have tried:
    my Linux laptop using Thunderbird
my Xoom (running Android ICS) and K9
my SGS2 (running Honeycomb) and K9
my iPad 2 using IOS Mail
Roundcube (webmail client) on the MacBook Pro itself (so no connectivity issues)
and all still work perfectly.  There have been no changes to my mail server (which is Dovecot running on Debian Squeeze, which has been running flawlessly for years) and none to my MacBook Pro (unless they were silent).
I have tried deleting all the relevant items from my keychain, but that has made no difference either.
    Any ideas because I'm stumped?

Since I posted this, there has been more, but slightly different, weirdness.
In the middle of a session yesterday, Apple Mail started to do something different.  When I typed in the password, it briefly worked (downloading one or two messages) and then the error dialogue box popped up again so clearly the password was always correct.
A short while later, it accepted the password and stopped complaining until ten minutes ago.  This time I only had to type in the password once and it is working at the moment but who knows how long for?

  • N9 Email: how to set separate passwords for incomi...

I cannot use my regular outgoing mail server because my ISP requires that all outgoing mail is sent via their server.  If I set the outgoing mail settings according to ISP's instructions, sending mail still does not work but the e-mail program says that the server cannot be contacted or it does not exist.
I tried to set a new account using only ISP's instructions both for incoming and outgoing mail and it worked beautifully first. However, when I changed the incoming mail settings to my regular ones, incoming mail still worked fine but the same problem with outgoing mail emerged. The e-mail program allows separate user names for incoming/outgoing mail but I did not find a place where I could set separate passwords. It seems to my that when I set the new password for incoming mail, the program offers the same password for outgoing mail as well. I tried different settings (e.g. with and without SSL) and in some occasions, the program prompted me to enter password when sending a message but giving the correct password did not help at all and the program kept asking the password again and again.
Is it really so that you cannot have separate username & password pairs for incoming and outgoing mail in the N9 email program? If this is really the case, are there any other email programs available for N9?
    Any help is highly appreciated.

You can't enter sites in a list to make Firefox remember names and passwords for specific sites.
If the password manager is enabled (remember passwords is check-marked) then Firefox will ask via a pop-up from the key icon that appears on the location bar whether you want to remember that name and password and that name will then appear in the list in the password manager window.

You can remove autocomplete=off with a bookmarklet to make Firefox save the name and password in such a case.
