TS3276 Mail app says my imap.google is not responsive

I have gone through the following steps and am unable to still have the app recognize my google imap. Any suggestions?

If you've activated 2-step verification, you need to generate an application-specific password in your Google account and enter it instead of the login password you use on the website. You must change the password for both the incoming and the outgoing mail server.

  • Mail App Stalls with iMap Connection

    Hello-
    I have had problems in both 10.5 and 10.6 using the Mail app with an iMap account. Here are some of the symptoms:
    - The Activity Window says "Received 24 of 25 headers" under "Updating Cache Directory" and never finishes.
    - The Activity window occasionally says "Downloading x,xxx,xxx Messages" when there is none to be downloaded. This also stalls out and never seems to finish.
    - Finally, quite often Mail takes a long time to fetch and/or connect to get the messages. I know this could be due to my internet connection (or the email server speed), but I can't help but wonder if it is tied in with the issues mentioned above.
    The only way I can fix them is to quit and restart Mail. Then everything acts normally for a period of time. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated!

    Same thing here... Getting truly tiresome. Any help would be appreciated!

    Have you considered the possibility that the third party fan software might itself be implicated in the issue, theosib (or perhaps something else introduced at about that time?).
    My inclination in a situation like this would be to back up your drive to an external, wipe the drive, and do a clean installation. At the very least I'd try an archive and install.
    Do you have plenty of free space on the drive? Once you get things down below the last 10 to 20% things can get hairy at times, and may not be fixed as a result of simply freeing up some room, as free space fragmentation is likely to have set in.
    As far as RAM goes, either "Rember" - http://www.kelleycomputing.net:16080/rember/ or, better still, but less user friendly, "memtest" - http://www.memtestosx.org/ does a much better job of checking your RAM than the AHT. Still takes a while to run for a thorough test, but much quicker than the approach you are planning on using.
    You might also want to use "Activity Monitor" to check for any applications with progressive "memory leaks" or that are acting as CPU hogs, given your symptoms
    Cheers

  • Difficulty consistently syncing mail.app with gmail IMAP

    I've got my gmail account mapped to mail.app via IMAP. However, when I move a folder from inbox to a gmail folder (within mail.app) that gmail folder shows up as empty and only through gmail webmail does it show up!ail! I've got four emails in my @W-F folder on gmail, but while the @W-F imapped folder shows up in mail.app, the emails within it do not. Please help with this syncing problem. I sincerely appreciate it. Thanks.
    All the best,
    John

    Hi patrico.
    If I’ve understood it correctly, it’s as if Mail was simply not checking for mail on the server...
    Could it be that the account is in an “offline” state? Is the Mailbox > Go Online command enabled or disabled?
    What’s the time interval chosen in Preferences > General > Check for new mail?
    Go to Preferences > Accounts > Advanced. Is Include when automatically checking for new mail ON or OFF?
    <hr>
    Do you have any Mail plug-ins? In the Finder, go to each of the following folders (if they exist). What do you see there?
    /Library/InputManagers/
    /Library/Mail/Bundles/
    ~/Library/InputManagers/
    ~/Library/Mail/Bundles/
    To make accurately reporting this information easier, open /Applications/Utilities/Terminal, type the following command (you may just copy it from this post and paste it in Terminal), and press <Return>. You may then copy the output of that command from Terminal and paste it in your reply to this post:
    ls -1 /Library/InputManagers /Library/Mail/Bundles ~/Library/InputManagers ~/Library/Mail/Bundles
    Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the folder path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the folder path there.

  • My mail app on my Macbook Pro is not working.

    Starting last month (october) my Mail App on my Macbook Pro has not been working properly. It does not automatically update itself and then it just stoped recieving emails all together. The Mail App does not close properly and I can not even force close it. This results in my laptop not being able to turn off. I tried taking the mail box offline and disconnecting the email. Nothing happened. Recently, the app will not even open correctly. What can I do?

    From your TimeMachine backup,  before the failure.
    otherwise
    command R for Recovery.  Reinstall the entire OS.

    My friend has lost his iPhone 5.on find my iPhone when entered id and password app says id is valid but not activated. What should I do to find that lost iPhone

    If Find My Phone has not been activated on the iPhone before being lost there is nothing more that you can do to locate it with iCloud.  The only option is physical search for it.
    If you have an idea of the location, call the iPhone and see if you can hear it ring.

  • Mail.app says I have more messages than exist

    I'm having an issue with Mail.app pointing to the gmail server using IMAP (default automatic setup)
    Right now I have 3 messages in my inbox, all read. Mail.app's title says "Inbox (4 messages)" even though I have 3. It's off by 1 every now and then and I have to quit and restart to have it fix it - although this doesn't always solve the problem I don't think
    Is this a known issue? How can I file a bug report?

    Hi,
    From the Mac Mail Menu Bar click Mailbox/Rebuild. This can take a minute or two. Should help.
    Not a bug, just servers trying to catch up.

  • Garbled messages in Mail.app (using Gmail IMAP)

    Several of my archived messages in Gmail are displaying with garbled headers in Mail.app, which is configured to access my Gmail account via IMAP. Here's what the headers look like:
    ------=NextPart_000_001601CA70CE.4D0AAE80
    +Content-Type: text/plain;+
    charset="us-ascii"
    +Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit+
    And here's an excerpt from the body:

    MjIyMjIyMjIyMjIyMjIyMjIyMjIyMjIyMjIy/8AAEQgAYABdAwEiAAIRAQMRAf/EAB8AAAEFAQEB
    Note that the message displays perfectly in Gmail on the web.

    Yesterday I tried to move all my messages from Gmail to MobileMe to work around this. I created a new label "Archive" in Gmail web and marked all my mail in "All Mail" with this label so they would show up in IMAP. In Mail.app I disabled "Move messages to Trash" to avoid having them deleted.
    Unfortunately I could not move my messages, around 1 out of 50 had the problem described above, so MobileMe did not allow me to upload them because of the missing headers. These were old messages, never opened by Mail.app earlier, and it was true that they missed some headers: they were exported from Outlook and Opera Mail years ago. But still they had all the header fields a mailer would display (To, From, Cc, Subject). Anyway the fact Mail.app cannot display these properly is perhaps acceptable in this case.
    However the problem being unable to display certain recently received, archived messages on my Gmail account still applies. Those messages were not modified in any way, only Gmail and Mail.app were used to access them.
    Needless to say, the old messages mentioned above that went through Outlook and Opera Mail look OK both on the web and in Thunderbird, too. At least I knew that I realized early that I could not move all messages this way to MobileMe. I am going to try moving my messages again with Thunderbird now.

  • Mail.app Stopped Working with Google Apps Account

    I have accessed my Google Apps e-mail account via Mail.app for many months with no problems. Then all of a sudden yesterday it has stopped working. I can't download new messages no matter what I do, and it does not give me any errors such as wrong username/password. I have tried sending a few test e-mails out and they get sent even though Mail.app shows the message as still being sent endlessly (the blue progress bar goes to about 50% and then just sits there, however the recipient receives the e-mail). Has anyone experienced this problem? It may be a complete coincidence, but I also just upgraded my version of Aperture 2 to Aperture 3 and it has been having all sorts of problems (which others are experiencing as well). Any help is greatly appreciated.

    After some searching I have found a solution. I had to delete the contents of the following folder:
    ~/Library/Mail/myemailaccount/.OfflineCache/
    Note: replace "myemailaccount" with the appropriate folder on your computer that represents your e-mail account. Once I deleted the contents of this folder (there were 2 files), and restarted Mail, there were no problems.
    Hope this helps a few people in the future!

  • How to troubleshoot Windows 8 Mail app connectivity issues with Google Business Apps?

    My company went to Google Apps last year. I am unable to connect Mail App on Windows 8 to my corporate Google account. I am using m.google.com for server with SSL enabled, but no luck. I also enabled bit locker as my company policy requires device encryption.
    Mail App does not give a clear error message. It simple states that this PC does not meet security policies enforced by Google. Please advice. I already made peace when my Nokia Lumia 920 running windows phone 8 does not connect to Google
    apps because of a bug that would not turn on device encryption unless requested by Active Sync and it would not turn on with Google sync.
    These are annoying issues that Microsoft must fix to gain enterprise support. Here are the settings from my mobile settings page:

    Answer is of no use. I tried all the forums and websites. I am not able to connect to corporate google apps because it requires SD card encryption. How do I enable this on windows 8.
    Please discuss this with your boss and other peers before answering. This is an advanced question. I am going to paint this a little bit more..
    Today's enterprise requires that most devices support device encryption and Windows Phone does support device encryption but here is the problem- there is no support for SD card encryption. Even for phones like Lumia 920 that does not have an SD card cannot
    connect to Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync due to a bug in the implementation.
    When the policy parameter Require Encryption on Storage Card is enabled, Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 devices misreport the presence of an SD card, even if the device has no SD card slot. The policy enforcement occurs, provisioning fails, and the device
    cannot be synchronized.  You can read more on their support site:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2464593
    This long thread on the Microsoft community is a testament to this problem:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/e...3ce3-49e4-8069-ecdccd55a5f9
    This is also a problem for those enterprises that are using google apps and running Microsoft exchange activesync. Take a look at this request and policy that will throw the 85010013 error on your windows phone.
    Request :
    https://m.google.com/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync
    Server Data:Provision/Policies/Policy/Data/EASProvisionDoc/RequireStorageCardEncryption=1
    Overall, I hope Microsoft fixes this issue soon

  • Mail.app handling multiple IMAP accounts

    Hi,
    I find it really hard to use multiple IMAP accounts with Mail.app. The way it displays IMAP accounts is really ugly and very confusing. At best you have one Inbox which displays all the Inboxes on your accounts. Then you have separate drafts, sent, trash treelike view for your accounts "special" mailboxes and then again some-kind-of-tree-view of your IMAP account - which by the way doesn't always even display! It depends if you have checked save trash/sent/junk/etc. messages to server or something which really doesn't have any logic in it. Also it doesn't display all the folders like Inbox (which is combined mailbox at the top which I explained). Then you can drag mailbox from your IMAP account to the "panel" which I think only copies and is not shortcut.
    Could you please do something to this instead of adding some ugly templates for sending your holiday pictures to your mom. I think that Mail.app should be developed to more "professional" usage, rather than develope features that teaches people to use their mailclient as a personal spamming tool for horrible HTML-mails.
    ps. I'd also like to turn off that stupid embedded-attachemts. Attachments are attachments and not a part of the email content thanks.
    -edit-
    you can see a screenshot of my Mail.app at work. I use more mailboxes at home and it's way more ugly. There should also be somekind of "don't display" -options as it displays some horrible Exchange-folders also.

    There is a reason for this and it is called SPAM. Open Relay mail servers are not a good thing:

  • Mail.app says I have no messages, I do not.

    The application is saying that I have 3 new messages. I went through all my e-mails, nothing new. I deleted EVERYTHING from my computer's mail cache, nothing. I removed my RSS feeds, nothing. I logged onto .Mac from Safari, and it's saying I have no new messages.
    I tried quitting/restarting the app. I tried restarting the computer itself.
    Anyone else?

    Okay I figured it out. I downloaded CleanApp. I dragged Mail.app to it as if I were going to uninstall it, and unchecked the app itself. I then deleted all the other files, and restarted Mail.app.
    Everything's back to defaults.

  • Mail.app crashing our IMAP Server

    Hi,
    since upgrading my MacBook Pro from Tiger to Leopard, Mail.app is constantly crashing the IMAP process of our mail server (Ipswitch iMail).
    -POP access to this server works fine,
    -IMAP access to other servers (GMail, MobileMe) also works fine.
    -Recreating the IMAP accounts under my user account doesn't help.
    -When I setup the same IMAP accounts under a different user account on the same machine, the problem is gone, so it must be related to something in ~/Library.
    -Other users that upgraded their machines from Tiger to Leopard don't have this problem.
    I configured our firewall to log IMAP access to our mail server. There I can see, that my machine is flooding the server with connections on the IMAP port, obviously crashing the process on the mail server.
    I looked into com.apple.mail.plist using Property List Editor, but couldn't find any obvious entries. I'm getting out of ideas. I've no problem in recreating all accounts, but I really don't want to loose the E-Mails and keeping the rules would also be a big plus...
    Thanks for your help,
    Timo

    Hi Timo,
    I'm afraid you won't like the answer. I found that Leopard's Mail, as far as IMAP was concerned, was worse than Tiger's Mail but that Apple's Mail of any Mac OS X vintage was a real productivity black hole whenever I connected to IMAP.
    I've recently been using Postbox for IMAP and though there's a few things visually not as nice I'm at least not wasting hours a day/week waiting for the beachball of death to stop playing games with me.
    The catalyst for me was coming back from holidays and literally wasting 2.5 hours trying to read basic emails with Mail.app. I've reported all of this to Apple via radar for a few years now and they close the issues as 'known issue'. Sorry. I feel your pain!

  • How can I configure Lion server or mail.app to show IMAP subfolders with mailboxes?

    I'm sure we've all seen the weird IMAP glitch where mail subfolders appear down lower on the mail.app pane instead of nested neatly under the mailbox itself.  Usually you can get around this by changing the Inbox IMAP prefix to "" or "INBOX" or "/" or some such path that the server recognizes as the root path to your IMAP folder.  Unfortunately, this sometimes means you are unable to work with those folders or introduce other problems.
    Since I am running Lion (Client) and Lion Server as my mail host, I would think that there is an appropriate answer to this either on the mail.app client settings, or perhaps with a Lion Server configuration through DOVECOT.  I don't mind if the solution is a command-line one, but I need to be able to easily set up my mailboxes so that mail subfolders appear properly under each mailbox, instead of being hidden away lower on the page where it is very inconvenient to find, especially when you are using multiple email accounts.
    Client Machine Lion 10.7.3
    Server Machine Lion Server 10.7.3
    Please Help!!!!

    I've tried editing /etc/dovecot/conf.d/10-mail.conf on Lion Server to add the following:
    namespace private {
      type = private
      separator = /
      prefix = INBOX/
      inbox = yes
    This puts me in a catch-22:
    If I leave the "IMAP Path Prefix" setting in the account Advanced tab empty, I can see the subfolders and move messages in and out of them, but can't add or edit the folders or heirarchy.
    If I set the "IMAP Path Prefix" to "INBOX" I can add and edit subfolders, but they don't appear nested under my inbox.
    Please help!
