TS3276 message displays with question marks instead of content

The mail message doesn't load completely.  Instead, it has question marks instead of the content.  There doesn't seem to be the choices under View Message that the help window suggests. How do I get the mail system to display what it considers unsafe images?

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folders. In OS X 10.9 there are two sandboxes, while in 10.8 there is only one. If you're running a version older than 10.8, this comment isn't applicable.
Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Repeat with this line:
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.MailServiceAgent
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

Is this issue with Tiger or Leopard? Your profile indicates you have a machine with Tiger, yet your signature of your post says you have Leopard.
Also, there is no such thing as a Powerbook Pro. Read the text under the screen to tell us exactly which model you have. MacBook Pro is the name given to Macs that are for the pro lineup of notebooks once Apple shifted to the Intel CPU.

  • Refinement Panel show "file name" values with question mark instead of spaces

    Hi,
I customized Refinement Panel to refine by file name. In some cases the value (file name) is shown with question mark instead of space. It looks like gibberish and the refine by that value doesn't bring the result.
    Any ideas how to solve?

  • Getting blue boxes with question marks instead of pictures in ipad 2

I am getting blue boxes with question marks instead of pictures on my ipad 2. I do not have Wi-Fi.

I am getting these question marks on many web sites. I thought it probably had to do with no Wi-Fi but I didn't have this problem until the last month or so and I've had the ipad since December.

  • Why am I getting a blue box with question mark instead of logo image?  It happens in my signature (in gmail) and in mailchimp (again, only with the logo).

Why am I getting a blue box with question mark instead of logo image?  It happens in my signature (in gmail) and in mailchimp (again, only with the logo).

The question mark in the box, if it looks like this:   means that safari cannot find the linked image.  On windows machines, this would be the equivilant of  the small "page-with-a-red-X" logo that appears in the same scenario.  Check the reference to the image and make sure that the image is in the correct location, and is accessable by the reference.

  • Blue box with question mark instead of pictures

    Hi,
I'm having trouble seeing images in emails that are sent to me, they appear as a small blue box with a question mark in it, I'm new to mac, so I don't know much about formats and such. I tried sending one from mail to my hotmail and used Safari to open it, the picture was fine, then I forwarded it to my gmail account on Mac's Mail, and it was also fine. So why can I see some and not others?
Another issue is the time it takes to send an email, it takes about 1-3 minutes to send an email, even though it's less than 1MB in size, is this normal? My hotmail sends them quite quickly.
    Thanks

Usually it means that the image/file is in a format your browser or mail plugins cannot read. There are a few Windows proprietary formats you cannot read with a Mac (unless you're running Windows of course); there have also been problems reported with images being sent by an AOL account that would not show, so there could be several reasons. You might want to check with the sender and ask what format the image/file is - readable formats are the popular .pdf and .jpg (among many others). Sometimes there are also problems with PC's sending attachments to a Mac; in Mail, there is an option to check "send Windows friendly attachments" - I bet there is no such option in Windows.... I've had this problem off and on and I attribute it to the fact that I choose to be in the less than 10% world's population with a Mac.

  • Blue Square with question mark instead of pictures

I'm trying to open a website, but certain pictures won't load. They are replaced by a blue box with a question mark inside. I've tried downloading flashplayer 10 but that doesn't seem to help. Any ideas?
    Chris

OK, I get the point about the password, but therein lies a clue. If this is not happening to other sites, then there is a possibility that there may be an error (or several) on the coding or image locations at that page/site.
It would be a good idea to see if anyone else is having such problems, although this might not give a definitive answer. Flashplayer 10 may not help this problem if the problem images are JPG. The JPG with a problem is indicated by a blue square with a question mark. A Flash problem shows a white/grey cube icon.
Methinks, that if other sites are not giving problems, it is the way this site is coded.

  • Blue box with Question Mark instead of Images on App Store

I googled and only found users with same problem on browsers, or forums. I on the other hand has gotten this on the app store itself. Was working fine a minute ago and when I relaunched app store i had several images with the blue box. I uninstalled garage band and then this happened, could that be the cause? I really dont need garage band, I dont want to reinstall it just to fix the blue box/missing images issue.
    pls see screenshot:

Thanks! lol, seems silly now i had to post here when all i had to do was close and relaunch... sorry for wasting your time. thanks to those who answered.

  • Suddenly I see the usual blue box with question mark inside mail messages instead of pix

Suddenly I see the usual blue box with question mark inside mail messages instead of pix.
    That did not happen before.
It happened only on certain pages with Safari, like the google news feed which did not display pix.
However, this new mail problem is really disturbing.
I checked Little Snitch and port 80 is open.
    I checked java pref.
    I am at a loss.
    PLEASE HELP!

Suddenly I see the usual blue box with question mark inside mail messages instead of pix.
That indicates that your Mail preferences are setup to not display remote images in email messages. You should check Mail->Preferences->Viewing and make surre the box to 'Display remote images in HTML messages' is checked.
    I checked java pref.
Java has nothing to do with Mail, or displaying images in it or any browser.

  • Fmt:message returns question marks instead of unicode

    well, pretty simple problem.
When i'm using <fmt:message key="someunicode"/>, the tag returns question marks instead of hebrew unicode string.
The page displays unicode that isn't coming from the tags.
The resorues files is ok too.
    Anyone knows something about it?

Have you set the bundle for the fmt tag before you use the <fmt:message> tag?
    <fmt:setBundle var="mybundle" basename="resources.application"/>
    Then :
<fmt:message key="my.key.message" bundle="${mybundle}"/>You can also the the bundle in the <fmt:message> tag.

Why do some of my emails have blue squares with a question mark instead of a picture or bar code?

No app installed that will view the pics and bar codes.
Which email client are you using?  Which version?
File suffix of the pics & bar codes?  Example:  .pic, .bmp, .jpg, etc.

  • My old iMac (screen sits on a white dome) opens with a tiny folder that flashes a question mark, instead of a login to user's desktop

My old iMac (screen sits on a white dome) opens with a tiny folder that flashes a question mark, instead of a login to user's desktop, when booting up after a forced shutdown. How do I get my operating system working again? Thanks --Jim

The blinking question mark indicates that the firmware could not find a valid Operating System on your machine.
Your harddrive may have failed. Your filesystem may have be come corrupted.
    Try these things.
-- try to boot up from the installation disc.
The startup manager will list all of your bootable partitions then give you a choice of which to boot.  Hold down the option key then power on. Continue holding down the option key until you see the startup manager. This brings up the startup manager. Click on your hd or disc. Click on right arrow key.
-- Sometimes if volumes don't appear in Startup Manager (what you get when you hold down the Option key at startup), you need to reset the Mac's PRAM, NVRAM, and Open Firmware. Shut down the Mac, then power it up, and before the screen lights up, quickly hold down the Command, Option, P, and R keys, until the Mac has chimed twice more after the powerup chime.
Then, before the screen lights up, hold down Command-Option-O-F until the Open Firmware screen appears. Then enter these lines, pressing Return after each one:
    reset-nvram
    set-defaults
    reset-all
"The reset-all command should restart your Mac. If so, you have successfully reset the Open Firmware settings."

    Should the fail...
Try taking the battery out for 10 minutes.  Put battery back in.  Cross fingers. Power the machine back on.

  • Quicktime logo with question mark appears instead of flash content

since updating my system yesterday to OS x 10.4.11 i have been unable to view flash content with _all browsers_. *Quicktime logo with question mark* appears instead. Spent 4 hours trying every fix suggested by Mac forums worldwide - with no result. Took the computer to the apple store where they actually took 60 euros off me for NOT fixing the problem. Still cannot view any flash content. Any help would be appreciated
Mac book Pro 2 Ghz Intel Core Duo

These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
It is known to work in the great majority of cases with Safari 3.0.4, QT 7.3 and OS 10.4.11.
Assuming you already run Tiger versions OS 10.4.9 or above (this has not yet been verified with Leopard) and have Quicktime 7.2 or above, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer 10 for Mac from http://forms.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html?platform2=Mac%20OS%20X&product= RealPlayer%2010&proc=g3&lang=&show_list=0&src=macjack
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
    Adobe FlashPlayer from http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.)
In Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them).
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them).
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
The world should now be your oyster!

  • Iphone 3g S viewing email pics are showing as blue boxes with question mark

I am trying to view an e-mail on my iphone 3g S and the pics are not displaying. Instead little blue boxes with question marks are showing. Any ideas on why this is happening?

The pictures couldn't be loaded due to one or more reasons. Some common reasons are: your email server timed out, the photo was taking too long to load, you had poor signal strength, the file was corrupted, the download failed, or the photo couldn't be displayed because the file type wasn't supported.
