TS3276 Offline-Online mail accounts
I have an issue on receiving and sending mails on my mac , but when I turn offline then turn online my mail account I can receive and send mails. But I dont want to do all the time manually , how can I fix it ?
Note : My mail acc works on my iPhone and when I hear the notification sound I can understand I received a mail , but in my mac it doesn't work.
i am getting this too after the 10.5.2 update and trying to see if IMAP problems were fixed. it keeps trying to copy sent messages to the server but since Mail doesn't work properly with some servers this will never happen.
anyone know of a way to get rid of "Pending operations"?

Mail V3.1 can not create a new Cablevision Optimum Online mail account
Apple Technical support asked me to report this on this forum.
I have OS X 10.5.1 with Mail 3.1. My ISP is Cablevision Optimum Online, which uses mail.optonline.net as their POP and SMTP servers.
Pre-existing mail accounts, created under 10.4.x (Tiger) work perfectly. I am unable to create a new mail account with this version of the mail program. Mail's Add Account dialog (wizard) hangs as soon as it tries to connect to the mail.optonline.com server. After a long time trying it just says it can not connect to the server. This happens if I choose the new (and default) "Automatically set up account" option or not. It happens on multiple Leopard systems. In other words, when the mail account setup wizard checks for connectivity to the mail.optonline.net POP server, it fails, even though the mail program has no problem interacting with that same server with accounts set up under a previous version.
We brought a MacBook to the Apple store, and the tech. at the genius bar could not get it to work. He said call the ISP. We did that, spent hours with the ISP tech who told me many people are complaining about this. I suspected it was a problem with the way Mail 3.1 was doing its initial connectivity check. Perhaps using an incompatible port (SSL setting perhaps).
After a good nights sleep, I figured out a work-around. I created a dummy GMail account, after it was created I modified it to have my Optonline account specifications, turned off SSL and it worked.
After I had circumvented this problem, someone else that had the same problem found a different resolution. We both also had .mac accounts defind. When they deleted their .Mac account from the mail program, they were able to create a new Optonline.net account. .Mac uses SSL.... interesting.
Thus, it seems that if you have a .Mac account with Mail 3.1 you can not create an Optonline.net account. A bug that I hope Apple fixes quickly.iLounge had some good info on this topic. The KEY INFO in the post was that after you have gotten the account set up you need to turn off your WiFi router (if you have one) to reset it.
http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?t=221752
Here are the details on how Optonline says you set up an account:
Name: type your name here
Address: [email protected]
Description: whatever you want to put here
Incoming Mail Server
Host Name: mail.optonline.net
User Name: xxxxxxxxxx (don't add "@optonline.net" here, but put what goes before it)
Password: your password here
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
Host Name: mail.optonline.net
User Name: xxxxxxxxxx (don't add "@optonline.net" here, but put what goes before it)
Password: your password here
My other settings under the "Advanced" tab look like this...
Deleted Messages
Remove: Never
Incoming Settings:
Use SSL: OFF
Authentication: Password
Delete from Server: Never
Server Port: 110
Outgoing Settings:
Use SSL: OFF
Authentication: Password
Delete from Server: Never
Server Port: 587

This person adds "Oh, one more thing... after you save your account settings, you may need to turn off WIFI, then "power off"... then "power on" turn WIFI back on and try to get mail again after it connects."
============
Based on the information I read here and on iLounge I was able to get Optonline email working.
1) Deleted my Dot Mac mail accounts in Apple Mail
2) Created an Optonline account based on the details above from Optonline in Apple Mail
3) Unplugged my Airport Extreme Base Station, waited 20 seconds, plugged it back in.
4) I was then able to receive mail but not send on the Optonline SMTP server
5) So...I then went back and checked the details on the Optonline account in Apple Mail. Not sure why but the SSL/authentication selections were changed. So I set them correctly based on the information above and saved. That worked and I was able to send email.
As you are having trouble with Apple Mail and Optonline (why else would you be reading this?) let me also mention that Optonline blocks Port 25 for outbound email so if you have non-Optimum Online email accounts and want to send email on that ISP's server you will not be able to do that unless (a) you pay Cablevision more for a business or boost account (b) use webmail (c) your ISP is willing to provide you with an alternative email port other than 25.
Here is the page from their site on this topic
ort 25 and Optimum Online
Answer
All e-mail sent via the Internet is routed through Port 25, the channel used for communication between an e-mail client and an e-mail server. Activation of Port 25 is currently available with Optimum Online® Boost or Optimum Online for Business. Please continue reading for more information, including activation instructions.
Port 25 Filtering/Blocking
To help control the amount of spam that originates from the Optimum Online network, Optimum Online filters outbound Port 25 e-mail (SMTP) traffic for all standard Optimum Online customers. This filtering is a common spam control measure used by Internet Service Providers. It not only prevents spam sent intentionally, but also thwarts computer viruses that let spammers connect to an unsuspecting customer's infected computer and send spam.
This filtering is transparent to the vast majority of our users. However, if you access a non-Optimum Online e-mail service with an e-mail client application (like Outlook Express), or run your own mail server, you may not be able to send and/or receive e-mail.
Port 25 Availability
If you require Port 25 to be active, Optimum Online offers these options:
Subscribe to Optimum Online Boost. Click here for more information.
Businesses can subscribe to Optimum Online for Business or Optimum Online Boost for Business.
Activating Port 25
If you subscribe to Optimum Online Boost, and would like to utilize Port 25, you'll need to activate it. Simply follow these steps:
Log into optimum.net using your Optimum ID and Password.
Click on Optimum Services.
Click Manage from within the Advanced Config section.
Set Port 25 to On and click Submit. Your modem will be rebooted automatically. Once it starts up, Port 25 will be active.
Optimum Online for Business customers who do not subscribe to Optimum Online Boost can call Technical Support at 1-866-575-8000 to have Port 25 activated.
Workarounds for Standard Optimum Online Customers
If Port 25 filtering is affecting your ability to send or receive non-Optimum Online e-mail, here are some options you may choose to pursue:
Contact your e-mail service provider to see if they support alternate connection methods such as VPN or SMTPS.
If available, use your e-mail service provider's WebMail. -
Take Account Online - Mail Account Locked
I keep getting my one account taken offline and when trying to access it, Mail states that the account is locked (busy with another mail client). Well, the only clients I have are Mail itself and the iPhone. Are these two clients locking my mail account and if so, how do I work around this? I want to use email from the phone and home computer.
Exact message is:
The mail server denied access to the account “Bellsouth” because an administrator or other mail client was using it when Mail tried to log in. Please try again later.
The server error encountered was: account busy (locked by another POP3 process)Did any of you ever figure this out? I've been having the same issues for a while, and try and revisit the problem every few months. I have never found a simple solution other than to have iphone check email manually. Then you don't have the computer & iphone vying for pop3 access at the same time.

I have 2 gmail accounts set up in my mail on macbook air. I send mail from one account but the reply goes to my other account. When composing the email I double-checked that the mail is sent from the correct address. The reply shows that it is mailed to the correct address but when I click the arrow to the right of the name on my account, it reads as my other gmail address. What's going on?
Hmmm. All I can say is check for a fourth time.
POP account as you describe, but IMAP is the more common for synching accounts between machines.
Try deleting that mail account on the Mac and renenter all your info as new if you have to.
OS X Mail: Troubleshooting sending and receiving email messages

Error Dialogue Box:
Some actions taken while the account "xnaatmacdotcom" was offline could not be completed online.
Mail has undone actions on some messages so that you can redo the actions while online.
Additional information: Operation could not be completed. (MFMessageErrorDomain error 1028.)
This error is making me very angry. Something is not allowing me to receive in new mail, although I can send out through the mail program. All I can think of is last night I was over at a friends house showing them the Mac OS, I wasn't connected to their network, and when I opened my mail program it sat for a bit and then said... you are not connected to the network. Of course.
I also upgraded to 10.5.2, but for some reason I'm not suspecting that as the issue.
Anyone come across this before? My account settings look fine, I am showing as "online" and I can send, but not receive, from the program.
It also seems to be stuck on sending... something. The activity icon is showing next to the sent mailbox & if I check on the activity I get:
Performing pending operations
Copying message
xnaatmacdot com Communicating with server
adding messages
Fetching new mail
fetching new mail
Synchronizing with server
traversing mailbox hierarchy.
If I click the stop icon next to performing pending operations it doesn't quit it, but then I also don't get the error message above when quitting out of mail.
I trashed the preferences, but nothing good happened. If I go to .mac mail on the web then I can see all my new e-mail.
Any help?i am getting this too after the 10.5.2 update and trying to see if IMAP problems were fixed. it keeps trying to copy sent messages to the server but since Mail doesn't work properly with some servers this will never happen.

TS3276 My 3 mail accounts are all off-line. How do I get them on-line?
My 3 email accounts are off-line. How do I get them on-line?
If you go to Mail>Mailboxes Menu - is Take All Accounts Online and option? Does it re-connect them.
Are the Mailboxes with different providers? If they're all the same provider perhaps there are problems at their end, rather than yours.
I assume your internet connection isn't playing up. -

Apple Mail account suddenly offline, smtp offline
iMac 27" (late 2009) updated to Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10 and Apple Mail 8.0 (1990.1) 17th October 2014.
Mail accounts in Apple Mail where working as years before until Yesterday, 3th November 2014. Suddenly 2 out of 3 accounts where offline showing the warning triangle icon on the right. Command "go online" and "syncronize" has no effect. Activity in Mail is showing no try to connect. Looking into the account config I see that the SMTP are "offline".
I checked everything and compared to the settings of the one account which is still normal working. Everything is identically set up. Only differences are the domain names, username and pwd. The domain names are on the same external virtual hosts and have same configs. The on the iMac faulty accounts are working on iPad and iPhone like ever and from the same internal network. My hardware firewall or the external mailserver can not be the reason.
I deleted 1) SMTP config, 2) whole mail account, 3) all corresponding keys in keychain and was setting up from new. No chance, they show SMTP offline and do not go online in IMAP. Next was trying to give account #1 the SMTP from the working #3. The SMTP #3 shows fine but near the inbox of account #1 i have again the warning triangle. No go online, no sync, no action in the activity window.
I go setting up Mail with these accounts in a new user. Mail was totally empty as I started config of two accounts. After doing all they where at the same point. No connection possible.
Why is this happend suddenly and after more than 2 weeks after Yosmite update? Why is one account working, two others not anymore?Sorry, just found the details. Here we go:

Is it possible to automate the times that certain Mail accounts are online?
I have two personal email accounts that I'd like to have active at all times, but I have a third email account that I only wish to be online/receiving emails during my usual business hours. I know that I can select for individual accounts to be offline/online, but is it possible to automate this?
randers4,
THANKS! But, I'm not using EXCHANGE. My web site and e-mail are hosted on Google-based servers using POP3.
Thanks!

Mail accounts offline after computer wakes
When my computer wakes up from sleep, the mail accounts won't come back on line. The only solution is to close Mail then re-open it. All was working fine with Lion.
I am seeing this sometimes on my MBP with ML (and only there) with my 5 accounts (POP) provided by my ISP, although seldom all 5 at the same time. Most of the time, if I check Online Status, they aren't always Offline (shown by the only option being offered is to Take Offline) but unresponsive to getting new messages. Typically if I control-click on the Inbox of any one of them, and choose Get Account Info, then that routine can communicate with the server and show all messages on the server. If they are Online, then with the individual Online Status status check I can take them Online. If not showing Offline, then the status later gets updated if I am patient.
Never happens to my other accounts, most of which are IMAP, nor does it happen consistently. I continue to investigate. I keep wondering if some sort of check is being done while asleep, which fails, and results in this.

My Mail accounts just went offline. Help!
I use Mail, and have two accounts - one is POP and one IMAP. The one I use most is a gmail IMAP account. I've been sending and receiving e-mails all day, but suddenly both accounts are offline. Mail asks me repeatedly for the password, but when I put it in it doesn't accept it. I went online to gmail and find that the sign on and password still work and can see my mail there, but I want to get it in my computer. What can I do to fix this? And why did it happen so suddenly? I restarted my computer and that didn't help. Will appreciate advice. Thank you.
Thanks. Well, you must be right, because I turned off the computer and did something else for an hour or so, and now everything is working fine! i thought maybe the computer was tired and just needed a rest, but your explanation seems more likely...
It was certainly disconcerting, however. While I had the problem, I also had the same problem in trying to use Mail on my iPad. It is also working fine now. We are using a Verizon JetPack for our wireless network, because we're in an area in Maine that doesn't have other internet possibilities. It's been working fine, but I notice it only gets a 3g network. Even so, my husband, with a Mac, using Mac Mail and with a different e-mail account, had no problem at all during the same period of time. So perhaps you're right in suggesting there was just something too slow about the connection with gmail. Thanks again. Barb -
I have three Google accounts. All three work fine for incoming mail. However, two have their out going mail server listed as "offline." So when I send email from those two accounts, it goes through the one active online out going account. When the receiver get the email, it appears to come from the on online account, rather than the account from which it was sent (i.e., one of the two offline out server accounts). How do I get all of the out servers online?

Welcome to the Apple user discussion forums
I assume that you are talking about web browser links that create a new message in mail? If you are talking about web mail it will always go from the web mail service you are logged into
In mail when you have a new message you can select the account it is sent from in the drop down list just below the subject line
I believe that the next new mail defaults to the last account you used so if you just used .mac mail with mail the next time you send I believe it will start there until you change it
If mail is not running it will use the top account in the list - to change that open your mail preferences ==> accounts and drag your comcast account to the top of the list if it is not there

One of my mail accounts has gone offline for some reason, and I cannot get it back online. I've restarted the program and rebooted the computer.
Here it "again".
