TS3276 Outgoing email issue
Hi, I have a MacBook Pro and an iPad. Everything works fine in the UK, but when abroad, I am unable to send email. I receive email as usual when logged on through any network, but am unable to reply or send new messages. I am a BT user, and can get round the problem by logging in via btyahoo, but this is a bit of a pain. Any ideas please?
Check your outgoing (SMTP) server settings for the port being used. If your outgoing server is using the unsecured SMTP (port 25) thn that is your problem. Nearly every Internet Service Providor and public WiFi currently blocks port 25 to prevent spammers or infected computers from running mail servers. In addition, if you are sending mail over port 25 then your email password can be intercepted from anyone on the same local network (i.e. public WiFi).
If your SMTP port is currently set to 25 then you will need to visit your email providers web site's support pages and find out how to configure your email's SMTP server to use SSL or TLS. The ports used by those secure protocols will not typically be blocked.

Yosemite outgoing Mail issues have been all over Internet since last Fall. I still have not seen Apple address the issue! Some suggestions from OS X Daily, etc. involve pref changes. However, I find that the pref changes disappear after they are made. I realize they must be selected to "save" but that option does not always present itself. Outgoing mail going as "reply" or forward" hangs up and creates an "outbox" which continues to try to send but has no success. This emails appear to be corrupted once they go there and must be trashed.
The only way I can get a "reply" or "forward" message out is to add a pdf doc at the end of the text in which I simply type "Intentionally Left Blank" so the receiver will not wonder why it is there. From now on, I think I will add "Page will remain blank until Apple wakes up and fixes this essential Mail app"! Perhaps we could add a live "clock" (like the national debt clock) that could continue to show the hours, days, weeks and months in which Apple failed to respond.
Can any Mac users help?

Commander, USN (Ret.)Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore is not, in itself, a solution.
First, empty the Trash, if possible.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
find ~ $TMPDIR.. \( -flags +sappnd,schg,uappnd,uchg -o ! -user $UID -o ! -perm -600 \) 2>&- | wc -l | pbcopy
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run.
Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear.
The output of the command will be a number. It's automatically copied to the Clipboard. Please paste it into a reply.
The Terminal window doesn't show the output. Please don't copy anything from there. -
I am having issues with my outgoing emails when I'm trying to send from a wireless location other than my home base. It worked fine for the last year and then within the last few months I started receiving a message saying emails cannot be sent through server. The emails are immediately sent upon returning to my home based wireless account. I can receive emails and use safari without any issues while away. The settings have not changed in my setup of incoming and outgoing account (nor has iOS) since I bought the iPad a year and a half ago. Any help is greatly appreciated.

MS Outlook 2010/2011 for Mac - outgoing email issues
Hey guys - Hoping someone can help. I use Mac OS X 10.10.4 Yosemite and have never, even pre yosemite, been able to send email from my Outlook. I use Outlook "2010" - but technically speaking it is MSO 2010 - 2011 Edition for Mac.Here's a screenshot: After recently upgrading I figured I would really pour myself into figuring this thing out and I've been playing with all kinds of settings every which way I can, based on what is literally a plethora of forum links from people with similar issues. Cutting to the chase, I would really love to set up my Comcast account via IMAP, but when I tried doing that this morning, I got so bumbled in errors and messups that I was unable to even receive email, so I am currently back at square one with these settings, which allow me to receive email on Comcast, but not send email outgoing: Screenshot of the error I receive when trying to send: I'd be very grateful for any help - currently having family email me on my personal account and receiving it while sitting at my desk at work, but still having to either A) login to the online webmail to respond or respond via my iPhone 6. ..... as you can imagine it is both frustrating and cumbersome. Thanks, Evan
It seems that you have all the correct information but the password is still being rejected. This can happen sometimes if the web login password and IMAP password get out of sync.
To sync the passwords, go to https://customer.xfinity.com/Secure/UserSettings/Flows/ChangePassword and login to your account, then follow the change password instructions on the resulting page.
Once you change your web password (which should force a sync with the IMAP password), you can either:
1) go to outlook and try with the new password in outlook
or:
2) use that same link to change the password back to your old one and then try outlook with the original password
Please let us know if this procedure works or not.

Greetings all!
New iPhone owner.
My current email provider is swbell.net
I have setup my wife's phone sucessfully usuing her swbell.net account info.
The issue is with my account.
I want to use an email address with my company name in it. I went to the company that hosts my website and they gave me settings to use in Outlook express.
On my PC, using their settings, I can send/receive emails between the 2 accounts.
If I enter the information in the iPhone, I can receive but not send emails.
The info they gave me is:
email address is: [email protected]
incoming: pop.greatthreads.com
outgoing: smtp.greatthreads.com
enter password: xxxxxxx
Change SMTP port from 25 to 5050
Change POP port from 110 to 5051
Check: my server requires authentication
log on using:
Account: use full email address
Server: smtp.greatthreads.com
They state further that the incoming POP server needs to be
accessed first before anything can be sent through the outgoing server.
So I sent myself an email.???
Tried many times to get this corrected, but still no ability to send emails.
Any thoughts???
JohnDid you manually create this account on your iPhone?
Based on the account setup information required, the SMTP server for this account is password authenticated using your entire email address as the user name and the same password used to check the incoming mail server for new messages?
They state further that the incoming POP server needs to be accessed first before anything can be sent through the outgoing server.
This indicates they require what is called POP before SMTP authentication which means the incoming mail server needs to be checked for new messages once per session (not each time before sending a message but maybe so) before the SMTP server is authenticated but if the SMTP server is password authenticated anyway, I'm not sure why they would require both authentication methods.
5050 is an unusual server port to be used for an SMTP server. Have you tried using the standard or default server port for an SMTP server which is 25? -

Outgoing email issue with iCloud account
This is a new ipad2. I seet up an iCloud account. I can receive email, but outgoing isn't reaching the recipients. I attempted to change the outgoing smtp to smtp.mail.me.com. In mail it shows as being sent but it isn't going through. Any ideas ?
You didn't say what you've tried, but if you haven't already done so, try temporarily recreating the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll. When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

I cannot connect to my outgoing email server on my macBook pro, yet I can, for the same email account on my iPad. Also I can send emails from the other email account I have on my MacBook...really confused can anyone help?
Sometimes deleting the account and then re-creating it can solve this issue
Write down all the information in accounts before doing this
Highlight the account on the left and click the minus button
Then click the plus button to add the new account and follow the prompts -
OUTGOING SMTP Email issue on N900
Hi All
I have setup my n900 with my POP3/SMTP email settings to enable me to send and receive my emails but I am having the following problem:
Incoming emails are received fine without any issues at all (in full html too, which I really like).
But.. I can't SEND outgoing emails when I am using the WIFI connection at my house. However as soon as I connect to the VODAFONE GPRS connection, I can send email without any problem.
Am I right to assume that because I can at least send whilst in the GPRS connection I must have set smtp up correctly?
Can anyone offer any assistance please?
Cheers
John.
Solved!
Go to Solution.use these:
POP server: pop3.live.com (Port 995)
POP SSL required? Yes
User name: Your Windows Live ID, for example [email protected]
Password: The password you usually use to sign in to Hotmail or Windows Live
SMTP server: smtp.live.com (Port 25) {Note: If port 25 has been blocked in your network or by your ISP, you can set SMTP port to 587 with TLS or SSL Encryption depending on the client in use}
Authentication required? Yes (this matches your POP username and password)
TLS/SSL required? Yes -
I would like to know what I need to do to select a folder for my outgoing emails before I send them. In other words, if I am sending a message to someone, Outlook has the option to select the folder where you would like to save the outgoing email to. That way, you are able to document all of your important outgoing emails. I was wondering if Apple mail had the same option. I know you can set rules up, the challenge is that the rules do not always apply depending on the email messages.
Thank you for your assistance.Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

Thunderbird changes outgoing email address
Composing a new email:
In the "To" field I start to type an address. Thunderbird provides a drop-down of matches from my address book. I select one of the addresses. Thunderbird puts it into the "To" field. At this point, my cursor is still in the "To" field. Then I hit Enter to move to the next field, & Thunderbird changes the email address to a different address (a different address from my address book).
If I add a space after the email address before pressing Enter, Thunderbird leaves the email address as is.
Behavior is kind of random - address is not replaced all the time. Also, for a while Thunderbird will make one change - like always changing address X to address Y, then it will switch to another change - always replacing address Z with address W.
The replacement address is always one that is in the address book.
Also, Thunderbird randomly colors some outgoing email addresses as red, even though they are in my address book.hi jbh01
The easiest method is to use the contacts sidebar as described in option 2.
But contacts do need to be in an Address Book.
However, if your issue is to reveal more TO fields, then you can drag the divider downwards. See image below.
If you write using Plain Text , there will be no Formatting Bar. If you use HTML formatting, then there will be a Formatting Bar.
In the image below there is a Formatting Bar between 'Subject' and the composing area. In the image below, I've indicated this with a red line.
Use mouse and hover over this line, the mouse should chnage to a double headed arrow. Left click and hold down to grab the line. Then move mouse downwards to move the line. It will reveal more TO fields. -
Unable to change outgoing email display name on 9930. Only displays email address to clients
I have tried to change my outgoing email display name to my name but when I delete the email address on username field and input my name it says "not a valid email address". Tried on the Blackberry website with my profile and on my handheld device. Why is this so difficult? I can't send emails to clients as on their end it just shows my email address in the from field and not my full name. My email account name on my Blackberry shows the full name I want to display, but it keeps defaulting to my username, which is my email address. I have a 9930 that is two years old. Thanks.
Hi Cltclt,
Thanks for the details! When did this issue start? Is your Blackberry on a Blackberry Enterprise server from your company? Is this an outlook Microsoft Exchange email account? This may help with changing your settings:
Change options for your personal email account
You can change options for each personal email account that you added to your BlackBerry® smartphone. You can create email filters, synchronize your contacts, change your signature or display name, and more.
• On the Home screen, click the Messages icon.
• Press the key > Options > Email Account Management.
• Click the email account that you want to change options for.
Thanks,

On launch Mail's first outgoing email takes 3 minutes to send.
Every time I launch Mail in Snow Leopard, the very first outgoing email takes FAR too long to get out. All the following emails seem to go out normally. This happens to all Mac's on my network that have upgraded to Snow Leopard. A friend running Tiger was able to send out his first email after launch immediately. Seems to be a Snow Leopard issue. All emails are going through the same SMTP server.
Anyone else have this issue and/or suggestions?Hi Vertical Interactive & welcome to discussions...
Two things you can try...
1.) Use the Mailbox menu to rebuild your inbox
2.) Find the /Library/Preferences folder in your user/Home folder and then locate and delete this file:
com.apple.mail.plist
*Caution* - deleting the plist may clear your account settings so be sure to note those first in the event you are required to reconfigure, etc.
