I run Snow Leopard 10.6.8. MAIL has been duplicating all messages in my DELETE and TRASH folders and continually loading and adding more. I delete & empty trash but reappear. HELP! Mail crashed..tells me now to import 150,000 messages before I can get back in.
Download iTunes from Apple's web site and install it. Don't use Software Update.

Hi,
I'm having a really hard time here.
I want to update my daughters intel from Tiger to Snow Leopard for her to make her life (and mine) easier.
When I try install the OS, I keep getting an error message that OSX can't be installed on this Mac.
What's going on?
Never had so much trouble before.
Please help.
Thanks so muchYou're welcome. Please note that it is a little more difficult to obtain Snow Leopard these days. Please see the post by Kappy at the link below.

Since loading Lion, I've experienced much more instability than Snow Leopard. In particular, Mail crashes with regularity, full-screen apps seem to run slower and show the beach ball more often for longer, etc. I love the features, but I'm disappointed with the performance. Any help coming from Apple? I've been sending them so many reports after crashes, that their file must be full!
Summoning max. courage, I did what you advised. Here is the result. What does this tell you? My Lion 7.2 (mid 2011 iMac) has several annoying glitches (which I have so far tolerated through gritted teeth) but none that have actually stopped me working.
BTW, I see several items involving CleanMyMac which I did not know I had. It is generally villified as a trouble-maker. Spotlight can't find an app. or a utility of that name. How can I get rid of what's there please? Just delete?

In Snow Leopard, there was a quick look feature that allowed you to look at files without opening the program. It doesn't show up in Lion on my iMac. Any ideas? Thanks
While in Finder, select the file (click on its icon once) then press the Spacebar.

How do I get iTunes to show up so I can make playlists and burn CD's as I was able to do in MAC OS X Snow Leopard? I upgraded to MAVERICKS so that I could have iCloud capabilities.

I have upgraded my software to OS X Snow Leopard. Now I want to update that to Lion. How do I do that? When I look at the Lion software available for download on the apple site it all seems to be update software for people already a version of Lion.
It has to be 10.6.8 I believe, before you can upgrade to Lion. I found some more info, please check out: http://www.informationweek.com/byte/howto/personal-tech/desktop-os/231001728
Be sure all your programms will work on Lion. Power PC programms do not work anymore (eg Nikon Scan 4 will not work from now on on Mac OS X). Some versions of Canon utilities for camera's do not work, Canon still have to upgrade. For an App Compatibility Table: http://roaringapps.com/apps:table -
When attempting to upgrade my iMac from Snow Leopard to Mavericks, I receive the message "This disk is used for Time Machine Backups" when I try to select the lone available hard drive. I have ensured that Time Machine is turned off. Upon some Google research, some who reported this problem were told to delete the folder backup.backupdb, but I do not have this folder on my Mac. Any suggestions?
The folder would be at the root of your hard drive. Double-click Macintosh HD and look there.
If it isn’t there, I’m not sure what it is seeing. -
Hi,
it ist possivle to downgrade/ install Snow Leopard on the current Mac Book Pros that are now sold on the apple store?
I knew they are improved since the 24 oct 2011 but did it change the firmware too?
Thanks,
AnnaAccording to this http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237 the Late-2011 MBPs have the same EFI-version than the Early-2011 ones ( MBP81.0047.B24 EFI 2.3) but different (updated) SMC-versions.
And since the Late-2011 MBPs ship with OSX Lion 10.7.2 chances are slim that an older OSX version will work.

HI, I just got a Macbook Pro. It's great but my mail doesn't work at all. It will come up correctly, but take forever to download messages, then won't delete them, then won't save them to folders. Then when I go to quit mail it's like it gets stuck between quitting and not. I have to force quit, then restart my computer if I want to pull up my mail again. How can I fix this?
If you just got your new MBP you have phone support from Apple (which is quite good) call them. 800-692-7753 tell the automated answerer "mail technical support" you'll have human quite quickly. Hope this helps.

Using iCloud mail in Snow Leopard - AND restoring old mail system
I use Snow Leopard and cannot upgrade to Lion since my MacBook Pro is too old.
Apple discontinued my traditional Mail service last week and said it is now transferred to iCloud.
1. Is there any way I can get my traditional Mail service restored since I like it better than the "improved?" iCloud-based mail service.
2. What I don't like about the new iCloud-based mail service is...
a. Sent mail does not always appear in my Sent folder.
b. When wanting to file a recent mail message away, I have to scroll thru all the folders AND many, many sub-folders. The system does not let me hide the sub-folders so I don't have to scroll so long.
c. It seems as if the iCloud mail speed is much slower than the old non-iCloud mail service.
d. It is very hard to make to Contacts for ease in sending mail
3. IF there is no way to get my traditional mail service restored, is there a way to get the "classic" look if I am forced to use the iCloud mail system?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Snow leopard server is created endless duplicates in OSX Lion clients
I am running a snow leopard server with address book server. My client computer was Snow leopard and have no problem syncing with the 10.6 server in address book. After the client computer is upgraded to 10.7 Lion, the address book application is creating a never ending stream of duplicate address entries in the client computer. It happens to all the upgraded 10.7 computers. The entries just keep multiplying into the thousands until I stop the address book server. Anybody know of this problem and how to fix it??
The address book on my mac somehow duplicated my contacts to the point where instead of about 200, I have about 100,000! The program crashes - if it even opens at all, which is sometimes doesnt - whenever I try to delete more than just a few. And if it doesn't crash, it just takes forever to process. At this rate I need a solid 3 hours to sit here and delete a few contacts at a time! Did you ever figure out how to resolve this problem?

II can connect to the internet but can't get any further? Anyone that can help walk me through this I would be truly grateful!
iCloud requiements are v10.7.5 or later. So you would have to upgrade to v10.7.5 at the minimum to sync your mail using iCloud.
Apple - iCloud - Learn how to set up iCloud on all your devices.
See if your Mac can run v10.7 Lion > OS X Lion - Technical Specifications
If so, v10.7 Lion is available from the Apple online store > OS X Lion (10.7) - Apple Store (U.S.)

Hi all,
For the past month or so, I have been getting duplicate messages for all incoming emails in a specific account when using Apple Mail. The account uses exchange. My gmail account does NOT have this problem in Apple Mail. I had this problem in Leopard, and it has continued despite upgrading to Snow Leopard.
I also installed a Time Capsule at around the same time the duplicates started appearing, and in other posts on this forum some have suggested the problem is with the Time Capsule. However, the same users that stated this (and said that Apple support was able to fix the problem) did not provide an answer about exactly how to fix this issue.
Since it appears that I am not alone in having this problem, perhaps it would be useful if somebody who found a solution via talking with Apple Support could share the solution here? Or any other suggestions?
Thanks!I would suggest that you post in the Apple.com > Support > Discussions > Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard > Mail and Address Book instead of this (Time Capsule) area.
