TS3276 Trouble sending email - receiving working fine

I have both Charter and GMail email accounts (used for different purposes).  When I first moved to the MAC last November, both types of accounts worked perfectly.  Mail was received and sent easily.
Now I am having a difficult time sending email from the Charter accounts.  I can receive mail in all accounts easily, but when I send an email (reply or new, with or without attachments), the Charter accounts take a LOOOOOONG time.  Frequently the Charter account times out and then I am asked if I want to use the GMail server to send the email.  This does NOT always fix the problem.
This is now happening almost all the time on the Charter accounts.  When an email is taking too long to send, if I quit Mail and then re-open Mail, the email messages in the Outbox will usually send right away.
I have access to the Internet; receiving email from all accounts is working fine, and GMail usually sends email fine.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to improve sending of email time?
Thanks

You have a setting wrong OR. I also use ATT/Yahoo mail for some of my email accounts and earlier this morning the ATT/Yahoo email system was down.
If that is not the problem, ATT/Yahoo system down, then it is simply you do not have the SMTP settings correct.
The server address is smtp.att.yahoo.com and you must have your complete email address, [email protected]/net where attdomian is bellsouth/att/southwest(not sure if that is one of them)/whatever DOT com or net for your domain. It has to included what comes after the @ sign. Some email programs strip what comes after the @ sign out of your logon info. And of course you must have the correct password entered.

  • TS3276 Trouble Sending Email Through Mail

I'm havng trouble sending email through Mail on MacBook Pro.  I'm using Lion and everything is up to date.  I receive email just fine, but when I go to reply the little wheel thingy just spins and spins, and eventually my emails get sent to the Out box and are never sent.  It's an AT&T email account that I'm using.  If I go through Yahoo, I can send the emails just fine, but I'd much rather use Mail.  Any ideas on what to do?  This just started.

  • Can't Send Email - Receiving Just Fine

I bought a new Mac G5 and am setting it up. I have a G4 with my mail accounts working just fine - sending and receiving. On my new G5 I can receive emails, but cannot send any. I've used Connection Doctor (in Mail) and the accounts pass all tests for incoming and outgoing servers. I have two accounts set up and get the same reults on both. When attempting to email I get the following:
"Cannot send message using the server outgoing.verizon.net:xxxxxxxxx.
The server response was: 5.7.1 Missing or literal domains not allowed
Use the pop-up menu below to try a different outgoing mail server. All messages will use this server until you quit Mail or change your network settings."
I have checked and rechecked for typos, but find none. All information is exactly the same as on my G4 which sends just fine.

Go to Settings => Mail,Contacts,Calenders => select the account and may have to click account again => should be viewing username and password, Scroll down and Select - Outgoing Server => Tap on Primary Server => try entering Username and Password in there even though it says optional...
Also try port 25 if that doesn't work and try toggling SSL on/off if that doesn't work.

  • TS3276 Trouble sending email

In sending an email with an attachment I received this message:  "Cannot send message using the server road runner. The server ""smtp-server.wi.rr.com"" refused to allow a connection on the default ports."
How do I fix this so I can send emails? I receive emails just fine.

Mail has two parts, the sending and receiving paths.  You have the receive path working (POP, apparently), and problems with the sending (SMTP) path, and your provider doesn't appear overly fond of documenting the generic requirements for the POP/IMAP and SMTP details for mail clients.
It appears that your ISP requires you to configure the sending path to use TCP port 25 (with SSL disabled?), which is an unusual and problematic choice; that port is commonly blocked outbound by various other networks, though your provider's available documentation is lacking.  Here is some more detail from another part of your ISP's web site (indicating there's no security?) on these ports.
Based on what's posted and if you're not on your local ISP's network, then you may have issues reaching your email provider's servers.  It's common practice to block outbound connections to port 25 on a number of networks.
To get to the SMTP server (outbound) configuration in Apple Mail.app, select Mail > Preferences > Accounts and then select the associated account, and switch the Select Outgoing SMTP Server to its Edit SMTP Server setting, then select the matching SMTP server for your ISP, then turn off SSL security, and switch to port 25.
After you get this working and strictly as a test, I'd also see if SSL can be enabled, and still allow a connection.  (This to determine if the ISP's documentation is incorrect or outdated, and if security can be enabled.)
FWIW, I'd make very certain you never re-use the password that's set with your ISP's email password anywhere else; not having SSL enabled on both the sending or the receive path means that your credentials are transmitted in cleartext.

  • Cannot send emails; receive them fine but no sending

This is very dissappointing and has me considering switching phones.  This is my 5th Blackberry but not being able to send emails is huge and it has been like that since i did the update March 8th.  When is a solution arriving?  Also whats up with no sync to Outlook?  Come on Blackberry gave your sh#t together!

    Hey junit99,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the question.
Do you receive any specific errors when you try to send out emails or do you receive a clock icon?  If you do, please contact your network service provider and ask to be transferred to BlackBerry.  We are monitoring some SMTP server issues and we will need logs to investigate.
    I appreciate your patience.
    Cheers.

Try going into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > select the account > account name , tap on SMTP (under the 'Outgoing Mail Server' heading) and then tap on your Primary Server and try entering your email account and password and see if you can then send emails

The thing is, before the update, I ALWAYS had my wifi on, and I had my mobile data off.  Worked flawlessly until the update.

  • Trouble sending email when on Wifi.

Can't send email when on Wifi, but can send when on 4G or maybe 3G - I forget. Can receive emails fine on both.  To further confuse things I have three email accounts on my phone, two of them have no trouble sending or receiving when on either wifi or 4G.. I've checked and compared settings dozens of time.
I have a private hosted email account (not sure if that is the right word) But I don't have google, AOL, or something like that..
    Thanks

"But wouldn't I be using the same outgoing mail server if I was wifi or 4G?"
Yes it would be the same. Maybe I'm too tired to figure this out.
The only other thing that comes to mind is that your wifi router's firewall may be blocking that port. But if that were the case, your PC or Mac wouldn't be able to send mail either.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.
