TS3276 Unable to send or reply in mail

MacBook Air mail won't send or reply to any messages, although it receives them just fine. All my names and passwords are correct, but I keep getting the 'can't connect to account' message. Can anyone help?

Hello-
I have the same problem since upgrading to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard last weekend.
This seems to be a common problem in 10.8 and a glitch in Mail 6.6 according to my ISP;
under advanced in the SMPT settings, Use of SSL cannot be unchecked causing the mail not to send.
I Googled the problem and found that checking Use Custom Port and setting it to 25 solved the problem for others. It worked for me too but when I close Mail, it resets the custom port to 587 and the mail will not send until I manually change the custom port back to 25. Mail 6.6 does't like port 587.
It's my hope Apple will resolve this issue in a future update but until, I am using Thunderbird mail (free from Mozilla). It works fine and uses port 587 btw.
Other thoughts welcomed!
Best,
John

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

Sometimes when unable to send or reply, pop up on the screen "wrong username or password",
Infact everything is correct, what happen with Yahoo ?
Help please, it's been 3 days going on like this.

Just to update....  On the iPhone, under yahoo account setup, there was a backup outgoing smtp at&t server listed, but not enabled.  I enabled the backup at&t outgoing server.  Now when the yahoo smtp server is unavailable the iPhone will default to the backup server.  Test of outgoing mail worked ok.

Well, it seems to be working correctly now -- but I'm still a bit nervous.
I have no idea what exactly fixed it.
Thinking it might be a wireless issue I connected the MBP via ethernet and mail sent quickly.  Switched back to wireless and it has continued to work as it should with the wifes account.  At first my user account on the MBP was not sending mail but now it too is working.
    I give up.
    Thanks for the replies
Strange indeed. It will be interesting to see, if it happens again, if connecting ethernet will resolve it again. I wonder if doing that reset a preference or cache.

  • TS3276 unable to send mail via charter.  Have desk and lap top.

Have Charter as ISP. Have Apple desktop and Mac Book Pro and iPhone.  Can receive messages on all devices but can only send on desk top (primary household computer) and iPhone.  Have checked Apple site and have gotten no resolutuion by talking to Charter support.  Can anyone help?

    An Update of sorts.
On my E72 I removed all references to Verisign under: Ctrl. panel -> Settings -> General -> Security -> Certificate management -> Authority certificates. (There were about 6 entries)
I tried to connect afresh, but the phone took two attempts to pick up my password for email.
I now have a 'Trusted site certificate' for the email server.
However, I still can't send.  A message pops up 'Unable to send message: <target address>'

  • Unable to send or reply

I am a new MAC user, I have set up the mail with the correct settings and am able to receive mail. However, if I try to send or reply I get an error message reading sender address was rejected by server. I also get an error that the outgoing server cannot be found to check the settings. This is the smtp setting correct? If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

  • Unable to send but can recieve mail

I am unable to send any mail from my hotmail account on my iphone, it says the username or password is wrong, which I double checked and it is right and I can receive. I have not changed any settings and I was able to send yesterday.
    What could be the cause?

What error message do you get? I have the same proble, and so far Apple can't fix it.

  • Unable to send attachments with e mails.

Unable to attach anything to e mails before sending them. I closed down computer once and saved e mails to draft and tried again and it worked. However it is now impossible to send attachment with e mails. When you click attach the my documents folder does not open up? I am using Windows 10 software and O/S Windows XP home edition.

Mp3 file will always attach. When I hit send..the sending message will activate..then the e-mail will just sit there with the little spinning dots and say sending for as long as 10minutes or more and eventuall it will stop trying to send and have some kind of error message saying 'We encountered a problem'. This has been going on for over 2 years and several 'FireFOX' upgrades.
I switch over to Safari and use the same -email' and bingo..it sends in a few seconds.

  • Error sending or replying to mail

Cannot send mail using Comcast's outgoing server

The configuration and use of any outgoing server address (SMTP) may not be supported due to several factors including, but not limited to, the inability for the outgoing server (SMTP) to authenticate users (whether by IP or username/password) that are not directly connected to that Internet Service Providers(ISPs) network.
This is usually your HOME wi-fi and you are not connected to it because you are on your iPhone away from the house. This is mainly done to prevent unsolicited users from sending SPAM via the ISP's servers.
An alternative is to use ATT SMTP Server (for US) when you are on the 3G or data network for the carrier and not on your home wi-fi. So enable ATT SMTP server under Other SMTP servers under your Mail's account settings on the iPhone.
If you are interested you can obtain that information directly from the email provider. This article has a great temple that you can use to ask all necessary information from the provider including "If you use your ISP’s own email service (instead of a third-party such as Gmail), sometimes it may not work if you use another Internet access point, such as a cafe with wireless Internet. Ask your email provider if the settings they give you will work on other networks."

  • Macbook Air. Unable to send or receive e mails.

We have just changed from EE broadband to BT Infinity. Coincidently, the same day I could no longer receive e mails.  EE say this is nothing to do with them, BT say it is nothing to do with them. I am a complete techno phobe and have now played around with so many settings that not only can I not receive emails. I can no longer send e mails. I wish to keep the email address I had when I set up the EE account as this is the address I have used for years.
    Help please

  • Unable to send or reply to emails

I am continually getting an error message when I attempt to reply to or send emails. 'An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1). Please check the message recipient xxxxxxxx and try again'. After this message, Thunderbird attempts to connect to my broadband provider but nothing happens. I have had a variety of error messages prior to this and I am getting more than annoyed. My broadband provider email platform has the same settings and works fine, so does the email on my tablet and my phone. My broadband provider support say it is a Thunderbird issue. Can someone advise please? Thank you.

Thanks for the reply. Not really sure if this is right but I've checked the POP mail server authentication settings and it set to 'password transmitted insecurely', but then there are four other options - Encryted password, Kerberos/GSSAPI, NTLM and TLS cert. I do have a password. Is that what you mean?
