TS3276 Why would Apple be advising people to use Mavericks at all?

Since downgrading to 10.9.1, none of my email address work with Mail. Gmail won't send most of the time, or won't send Files at all, and copies everything I type a bazillion times, cloggin my Drafts, Outgoing Mails boxes.
I found nothing on the perky Apple support pages that addresses these problems, which ostensibly nearly everyone with Mavericks who uses Mail, is having.

To piggy back Barry, I do use Gmail as my primary personal account and I've had no problems with Gmail and Apple's Mail program since the update to 10.9.1
Your problem with drafts may be due to your configuration. Select Preferences, choose your email account and then the Mailbox Behaviors tab. Click off the option to store drafts on the server. The only reason you'd want that feature is if you use more than once computer with that Gmail account. There is a problem with this feature but whether with some servers though I've not noticed that it affects Gmail and I'm not sure that it is Mail's fault since, as I said, I don't have this problem with Gmail and Mail.

It is unfair to the consumer, and frankly turning away customers like myself willing to pay high dollar to Apple for their product, who can I speak with to complain about this, because I know their are factory unlocked iPhone 4S' sitting in a warehouse somewhere just waiting to be shipped, and I want one. I know why, cause Apple signed contracts with each carrier so the carrier could increase their sales making customers sign 2 year contracts, I get it, I own my own business, but the delay of releasing factory unlocked ones is just not right and I should be able to buy one without having to buy it over in the UK where it is unlocked when it comes out right away, I should be able to buy it in my own country! These business practices we practice in the US need to stop, their is a demand that needs to be met with consumers like myself who don't need subsidized iPhone's with 2 year contracts with carriers and don't mine paying full price for an unlocked one, it is unethical in a sense, forcing the customer to buy it with a carrier contract and NOT giving the customer the option to buy it full price and own it themselves, OR, making the consumer wait a month for that option to be available. THEY SHOULD BE RELEASED AT THE SAME TIME!!!!!! THAT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO!!!!!!
Apple can contact me and I will proudly pay for one. But making me wait a month for an unlocked one, puts AT&T, Sprint & Verizon's interests before mine, and that is not right, for it is MY money that keeps you guys in business, so my best interests should come first!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I understand your frustration, but when any form of rationing is required you have to prioritise. The number of unlocked vs packaged phones will be quite small and the number of unlocked buyers wishing to upgrade immediately will be smaller still. Against this you have the corporations sharing $billions between them.
It would, you're correct, have been fairer to release all at the same time, but fairer doesn't come into it: it's business.

My original Apple ID was my bellsouth address. When I got iCloud, it was merged with the .me address. I can use either to log into the same iCloud, Facetime, iTunes & Apple Store, and Messages. Seems you have 2 separate Apple IDs (one for iCloud and one for iTunes).
If you log into any app using the Apple ID such as Facetime, only the email addresses associated with it will work. You can log into the Manage Apple ID website and see what addresses are associated with that login.

I don't know of any way to merge seperate Apple IDs. You can try changing the one you use for iTunes to the one you use for iCloud and see if it works. If not, you can change the iTunes one to a different email address. Then you can disassociated the gmail address for the iTunes Apple ID and then associated it with the iCloud Apple ID. Once it's disassociated from one account, you will then be able to add it to the other and get the verification email.

I keep trying to download a well known Matrix screen saver for mac, but it continuously says "Cannot install MatrixGL screen saver". Why is that when multiple people are using it?

I don't know how to get this scrren saver to work. Many people have used it and said it was good and dependant. But im not sure why It keeps saying on the "Setting" Screen Cannot install? Someone Please give me a helping hand, would really appreicate it.

Matrix Reloaded GL is a dinosaur software wise. Many many people report it is NOT compatible on Mountain Lion. Select a different screensaver, Matrix screensaver is not reliable or wont work at all on Mountain Lion OSX

It uses data to play the podcasts which, once downloaded should not reqiure wifi to play!
Fix it, otherwise stop forcing us to use it and allow us a choice!

They do. There's lots of podcasting apps in the store, and you can erase the podcasts app and go back to the old way of playing them with the music app. Biggest downside is that you can't download podcasts on the phone without the podcasts app, so either do it on your computer or download the app, get the podcasts and erase the app. There's a few topics on here on how to do this. Search is your friend.

I bought an unlocked iphone 5 with 32mb especially so I could use any wireless carrier that I wanted to. Why does apple hold me prisoner to use only the carriers that apple wants????? The only thing I can't do is send and receive picture messaging.

If you bought an unlocked iPhone then it will work with any carrier but will work only under the restrictions or requirements the carrier sets for its customers. Apple has nothing to do with that. You are describing a problem of restricted access created by the carrer. If you cannot carry out the functions you want, talk to the carrier and see what limits they are placing on you. An unlocked iPhone is fully capable of all functions the carrer allows.

Why does Apple say that I`m using 5 computers whilst I only have two?

Hello! I`ve got a problem with iTunes. I usually use iTunes on my MacBook Pro. Today I installed it on my PC and entered my Apple ID. After that I got a message from Apple saying that I am using 5! computer - and I sure am not as I only have two ( My XP laptop has given up a long time ago - it doesn`t exist anymore. Got no iPhone, no iPad either). Can anyone tell me what`s going wrong here?

Some of your computers may have been (or still may be) using multiple authorisations.
Perhaps try doing a "Deauthorise all" and then reauthorise the computers you still have access to? (That should get you back down to 2 authorisations.) See the following document for instructions:

2 apple ID's to 1. With so many people having the same issue of 2 legitimate accounts by accident or whatever, why would Apple not let us merge them into one? It would simplify our lives and I don't see why Apple won't allow this.

2 accounts to 1. I was so anxious to set up my new iPad at the store that I accidentally set up a new Account. With so many people requesting to merge 2 legitimate accounts that they own, I can't understand why Apple is refusng to allow us to do so! This would simplify our lives so much. Just upgraded to 10.9. was hoping it would fix the bugs in the last system. now my Epson scanner won't work. Downloaded their newest software. No go with the new OSX. Why would Apple roll out a new free upgrade that interferes with Epson?

The company I favor, Apple sent me a message that they have a wonderful new Maverick operating system.
I send documents back and forth to friends and people to do business. Hoped maverick would fix the bugs from Leopard.
With Maverick system, my main document sender, Epson perfection 4870 and its software doesn't work anymore, or so it seems to me.
Checked with Apple, very apologetic, they can't help, maybe it will be fixed in a couple of days...
Epson, referred me to Apple...

So, lot of money over the years. Plenty of smart, well compensated folks writin code at both companies. I can't keep up with tit all, they don't keep up with each other.

Why does the side bar not automatically show up when you first download apple iTunes? Really really bad design. It took 20 min to fine the setting that enable the side bar. ***? I could not access my iPod for 20 freakin min! Just show the **** side bar always! Maybe apple is too big and is starting to lose common sense.

Because Apple update iTunes to do it that way. Apple has not said why.

Why would apple sell me a returned iPad as a brand new product?

I have been a preacher of the Apple gospel since I spent $4000 on my first Mac 2si and started my career in 1991. I have bought almost every version of Mac and I am running 5 in my office. I have lost $1000s in bad tech and bad products over the years, but I have stayed loyal. Now I find I bought a repackaged product as new. You cannot believe my letdown. To me it's like finding out the pope is a criminal. Apple has deceived myself and others. Best Buy's employee said I was not the first to suggest I bought a returned product repackaged. Apple has become another greedy capitalistic corp who cares nothing of us and only of the money! Or we're they always like this. I have no god anymore. Retribution is entitled!

TS3276 why does apple deny that they have trouble with some hotel wireless connections that prevent us from sending mail?

This morning I had no trouble sending mail from ALB. Then I did have trouble at the Marriott in Baltimore. This is a recurrent issue. Some hot spots work fine, some only allow me to retrieve mail, but not send any. More than frustartiong as it denies me working ability with mail on the road!

I have noticed this too because I work a lot overseas and live out of many hotels. This is not just a Mail issue but also with Outlook, and it has to do with your outgoing port configurations. It's not Apple's fault it is the ISP behind the wifi and some of these ports are blocked for whatever reason. The only thing that I do is try different mail accounts, ie Yahoo, Google, Mac, until you find one that works. Sounds stupid but that's the only way that
I can keep communicating back to the US.

I haven't done it. But if you set it up as new, just long enough to be able to update the operating system. Then go in and 'erase all content and settings'. This puts your iPad back to its out of box state, just not the operating system. You can then set your iPad up again, but this time you restore it from the backup of your old one.

Why would Lightroom video capabilities/iTunes import/Netflix streaming/Photoshop all stop working at once?

Several programs all stopped working at the same time and will only work (briefly) right after I've restarted my computer including:
- iTunes audio cd importing
- Lightroom video importing and playback
Netflix streaming (on both Safari and Chrome) won't work and Photoshop (CS4) won't open at all.
Videos work without a problem in: Quicktime, iMovie, Final Cut Pro, and Bridge CS4 and CS6. YouTube also works without a problem.
Maybe the problems are conincidence, but this seems like it is posisbly a software problem with my computer, not my programs.
I have tried reinstalling Ligthroom and resetting the preferences files but they don't help.
The only things that I can think of that happened is that I:
1. downloaded my own videos from my own YouTube acocunt after my external hard drive failed and maybe there was a virus?
2. I deleted some programs with "Clean My Mac 2" and maybe it deleted some crucial file someplace?
I am running a 2009 13" MacBook Pro with a 2.53 Ghz processor and 4 GB RAM and Mountain Lion (everything is up to date).

I had problems with streaming until I changed the WiFi channel that I was using. The original one conflicted with my neighbor. After that, MOST of my streaming problems vanished. Occasionally, a movie would pause for more buffering and I eventually ran an ethernet cable from the Apple TV to my Apple Extreme (to eliminate the Wifi). I have not had a single problem since then (except to repair the drywall after running the ethernet from one floor to another). :-)
