I have been struggling with a wee problem. Our daughter has a Nokia 1650 phone, and when I or my wife call her it never rings. We've been playing hell with her for not answering our calls, but she told us something had been wrong with the phone and it didn't always ring. To check this, I called the phone from my own mobile, the screen lit up to show that I was calling but there was no sound and there was a white cross overlaid on a red circle appears on the screen. When our other daughter's phone calls, the phone rings as normal.
I called Nokia's helpline on Monday but the guy I spoke to couldn't tell me what was going wrong and said he need to research it. I called again today, and they still said they didn't know what is wrong. Today the guy said I should try resetting the phone by typing *#7370#, but my daughter tried this and nothing happened. I'm going out of my mind, my daughter is 13 years old and I spend a lot of my time travelling for work so it's a worry that we can't reach her. Does anybody here know how to fix the phone? Right now I'd be grateful even for just a clue where to start.

This is so unfair! My wife had exactly the same problem - a very good friend, Peter, complained that whenever he rang her she did not answer and would not accept her explanation that she never received the call. The reverse was also true - another friend, Dave, never answered when she called and he also claimed he never received her call. On reading the explanation here, we got into her Nokia (1208) and, sure enough, there were two numbers on the Number screening list and one was her very good friend Peter. The other one she did not recognize. Anyway, she deleted both from the list. Then she rang Dave and told him about our discovery and he too reported he found two numbers on HIS list, including my wife's.
Problem solved? Yes, BUT, it's saddening that mccbleue is so quick to suspect, and jamesy_mac is so ready to accept, that the daughter is a liar. I can imagine the poor kid protesting her innocence. If she didn't want to answer your phone calls, all she had to do was ignore them, not put you on the screening list! My wife has no idea how those numbers got screened on her Nokia and her friend Dave swears he didn't do it either. It's a bug in the **bleep** phone, for pete's sake.

File a complaint at donotcall.gov. You're never going to be able to catch them all. Most of them now use voip systems that can spoof numbers. They almost never call from the same number twice and within 24 hours of beginning to use it, the number is dead. Completely shut down.
What the industry really needs is a vetted real-time black-list of smap callers that you could subscribe to, similar to those used to filter spam e-mailers. Probably won't happen in this decade, though.

My iPhone 4 with the new OS does not always ring

Since I upgraded to the latest OS my iPhone does not always ring, and also the Ringer icon that comes up when you adjust the volume does not indicate if it's going up or down.
Has anyone seen this before and/or has a solution ?

Ensure that Do Not Disturb is not on in Control Center.
If a Bluetooth headset is connected, all audio is directed to the headset.
Clean the dock connector with a soft, dry brush.
Clean the headphone jack and try plugging/unplugging a pair of headphones several times.
Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
If none of the above resolves the issue, take the device to Apple for evaluation.

Have you tried resetting your iPhone?

I can no longer burn a disc. The command to do so does not appear in my Files menu. All my recordings are 100% legal. I have installed a new version (it still looks the same), but that hasn't helped. I have done so before.

All my music is from legal sources (albums owned by me, others from iTunes), but the Burn Disc command does not appear in the File menu, and nothing I do helps. I downloaded a new version of iTunes, but it still loks the same and may just be the same. But the problem started long before I did that.

You don't even need to show the general Sidebar as suggested by others.

Firefox does not display MobileMe pages correctly. Is this something you are working on fixing?

Side bar in mail scroll bars are missing and bar will not expand fully. Clicking on an email does not display it on the same page, it requires double clicking and opens in a new page.
Side bar in Gallery also not expanding. Other problems with diplay in Contacts, Calender, etc.

Looks like a problem with JavaScript (Ajax).
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

If you the Firefox 4 beta version with the same profile then you should create a new profile exclusively for the 4.0 beta version and create a desktop shortcut with -P "profile" appended to the target to launch that profile.

Of course you can, just remember that iphoto replaces the finder. It's the manager for your photos.

Unfortunately you are not alone. While I got through without problem, other users of Samsung phones have reported the same problem.
reformatting sometimes fixes the card, but anything stored on it is gone.
a Bit late, but the recommendation is to remove an SD card before updating.

If you are a Verizon user try this:
Open the phone and dial *228. This is a Verizon over-the-air programming number.
When the system answer press 1 for "Program or activate your phone"
Wait for the call to disconnect. You should get a prompt stating "Settings updated."
Double tap the Home button to bring up the recently used apps list at the bottom. Locate the Phone, Message, and Contacts apps, swiping if necessary, and press and hold until they jiggle then press the red minus sign to stop them.
Wait a 3-5 minutes.
Try your phone again and see if it's fixed.

This morning I woke up thinking that I should turn off my iPhone and then call it from a land line. If the problem is the network then there would be a delay before I heard ringing.
I turned my iPhone off and called it. Right away I heard my message.
I turned my iPhone back on and called it. It rang right away!
So, did Virgin Mobile fix the problem or did turning my iPhone off fix the problem?
I don't know, but I'll take either. I do know that Virgin Mobile said it would be four days to check the problem. Did the problem get fixed yesterday when the four business days were up. I do know that I've had my iPhone on for a long, long time. Did upgrading to 6.1.1 or 6.1.2 cause the problem and turning my iPhone off reset my iPhone?

Is the phone silenced? Check the button on the side of the phone above the volume buttons if you see an orange line it is silienced, slide it to the front of the phone and it should correct this. Also ensure the volume is up. If you've checked these and still nothing are you able to call people? do you have service?

Ok i did what you said to and it did it again, I am at work. Phone is on my desk. I clicked the home button to see if I had missed any messages and it would not turn on.
Starnge thing is this happened to my other 5S. Took it to apple. They replaced it, Now this phone is doing the same thing, Could it be the software?
