I have an iphone 5 - I cant hear caller. I can hear the caller on speaker but when its off I cant hear caller. I restored phone already any ideas - also checked all settings

My freind had this issuie, his sim card was falty. Try geting a new sim card.

Back it up in iTunes! Just make a backup of the entire device but make sure you check sync contacts and the option to add contacts from phone to address book on computer.

Try this:
1. Reset the iPhone by pressing and holding the sleep/wake and home buttons and releasing them, when the Apple logo appears on the display. Now test again.
2. If the issue persists: Restore the iPhone without any of your own content, using this description from Apple: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
3. If the issue persists, Your iPhone need repair.

WARNING FOR ALL PRE OWNERS:
For the third time, I've experienced a problem with my Pre that I can answer or place a call, but the other end can't hear me, and I can't hear the other person. This is a common problem with the Palm Pre. It seems to be related to using the smartphoneearphone plug for a headset or to hook up external speakers to listen to music/podcasts. My wife and I purchased Pre's on the second day after public release. I used to love the phone for it's simplicity and functions, but yesterday I had to return to the Sprint store to have my 4th Pre replaced. One had a different problem, but the other two had the same issue. When I returned home from the Sprint store, I discovered my wife has the same problem (she's only on her 3rd phone, however). Palm should really consider fixing the software/hardware problem--the Sprint store cannot repair on-site. A replacement (reconditioned) phone must be shipped to the store, necessitating 2 trips per problem; a 30-min drive for me. An alternate solution might be for Palm to put all its Pre owners on an automatic replacement cycle where the company automatically ships a replacement Pre to every own approximately every 6 - 8 weeks, since that seems to be the mean time between failures for this attractive appearing, but extremely poor quality, unreliable handset. What good is it to have a smart phone that you can't use to hear/talk when making calls. I've owned Palm 3-Com PDA devices since 1997, and Palm Treo 700s and 800WMs. I've owned Palm stock for 4 years, but I'm telling you that when my 4th replacement phone (5th phone, counting my original purchase) arrives Tuesday, I'm immediately replacing it with a non-Palm phone and never buying another Palm product. I am EXTREMELY disappointed.

This is something that nearly every manufacturer of portable devices deals with to one extent or another. Pocket lint and debris find their way into the headset jack and cause the device to permanently assume a headset is connected.
The only way to fix this is by cleaning out the headset jack. Either by inserting/removing a headset connector repeatedly, or as suggested in this support article: "Unplug the headset if it is plugged in. Blow into the headset jack to clear out any debris. Firmly plug in the headset."
HOWEVER if you choose to do that, I advise EXTREME caution, as you could accidentally get moisture into the jack, making the problem worse.
Our moderator tagz also made a suggestion in the first forum thread I referred to earlier, however again, use extreme caution when putting ANYTHING into the jack. Also, an earlier suggestion to have Pandora or some other music playing on the Pre while adjusting the jack provides good feedback for when the problem resolves.
One idea I've had and heard others suggest is a cover of some sort. Now, this would be an excellent opportunity for someone to make a lot of money with a headset cover designed for the Pre, but until then, try a Google search for "headset jack dust cover" and you'll see products made for other devices which should fit your Pre quite nicely.

IPHONE 4--I CAN'T HEAR CALLER

I would just like to say how VERY disappointed and frustrated I am with my new phone. I upgraded about 6 weeks ago and got an Iphone 4 and that was the worst mistake I've made in a while. I have already made THREE visits to the AT&T store for problems with this phone. The first visit I made was THREE days after I got the phone and I requested a replacement phone but I was assured the phone was fine and the problem had been fixed. Well here I am, about a month later, AFTER THE 30 DAY REPLACEMENT PERIOD IS OVER, and wa lah!! My phone is broken again. I use this phone for everything--personal and profession. I called AT&T again today and suprisingly there is nothing they can do, I have to call APPLE. Well I called APPLE and not only was my support person extremely rude and unhelpful--she also explained my options 1) go to the AT&T store and explain the issue and they will decide what they want to do--basically it is up to their discretion. After going and spending my lunch break at the AT&T store I was told that was actually not an option but that I could request a replacement phone, send in my phone, but the only small catch is that they would but a hold on my credit card for over $500! Wow, really? Only $500?? Let me jump on that option. And reading online, CLEARLY I am not the only person in the world that has experienced the problem I currently have, which is I can't hear the person that is on the other line. After going online, I discovered that this is actually a VERY common problem that has been going on for awhile! But APPLE wants to act as if their hands are tied and they can't do anything. I WANT A NEW PHONE!!!!! and I don't think I should have to have $500 of my money tied up while they try to fix my POS. I am so ****** off and frustrated and I want EVERYONE to know about my experience. These phones are not cheap and the people that have them clearly depend on them for a lot of things. I used to LOVE APPLE products, but I am close to jumpting off the band wagon. I don't know if anyone reads these comments but I would really like a response and maybe, just maybe my faith can be restored in APPLE

I'm having same problem with my 3G. When I adjust my ringer volume it says headphone in parentheses. I can still hear thru headphones. Until u get it fixed maybe u could try this as a temp solution. Good luck.

Trouble with Skype. can't hear caller but I can see caller.

Trouble with Skype. Caller cannot hear me but I can hear caller. Cannot hear voice on test call. Can see caller. MIcrophone is on and volume turned up.

I do not have Mavericks running on my older MacBook Pro. During the call, do you have the microphone icon on the Skype window enabled or disabled? Have done that before.
My Skype preferences:
Microphone: Built-in Microphone (Internal microphone)
* Automatically adjust microphone settings is set
Ringing and Speakers: Built-in Output (Internal Speakers)
Camera: Built-in iSight.
System Preferences > Sound
Input tab: Internal Microphone
Output tab: Internal Speakers

I can't hear a caller when I place a call or receive a call.
They can hear me.
Speakerphone does not work either
The speakers work fine for listening to Voicemails and IPod songs.
What gives?

I took it to the Apple Store today.
The guy at the Genius Bar took it apart and reset it...said he had no clue what was wrong and gave me a new phone. Oh well...

I can hear fine on speaker or through headphones.

This rectified itself after two days!! Must be a new feature from Apple to help you save on phone bills.

Nokia E5 - Can not hear Caller after disconnecting...

When i disconnect the phone from the VW car kit, i can not hear a caller when they ring me, the phone does have the car symbol on the bottom status line and the only way to fix the problem is to restart the phone everytime i disconnect from my car kit....not ideal !!!
Any ideas on why it seem sto think it still connected ?

Okay! If you have the same problem, you end all runing programs in the taskbar. reset the phone several times. i can hear the caller after that. hope that the problem comes not back.
There ist the Problem with the battery!

I have iPhone 4S 16GB with iOS 5.0 since october 2011, in january 2012 I break the front glass and I give to the our czech Apple Authorized servise for non-warranty repair, my warranty continues. They applied to it some "Apple Exchange Program" so, I have a new iPhone.
When I receive iPhone back, I found out issue when I make the call sometimes I can't hear dialling tone and caller voice, he does, and I hear my voice from the speaker. If I make recall, almost always it's OK. Happens approx. every 5. call.
iPhone returned from service with iOS 5.0.1, with different Serial Number, UID, etc..
I try restore without backup, problem unresolved.

No nothing. I have not dropped the phone or anything, but when I bought it I could listen to music, and now it just don't recognize any headphones!

Can you elaborate? When did this start? Have you checked settings? What phone? What version software?
Did you check the "more like this" to the right to see if someone else has reported/solved the same problem?

Problem - can't hear caller

Just bought a new nokia 2330 classic, and i can't hear the other person at the end of the phone when i make or recieve calls. I can hear them on loudspeaker but not on normal. Help please.

You said you just bought it. Better take it back to the seller and get a replacement. Could be a hardware fault
