TS3433 anyone using extended wifi on TimeCapsule 7.6.1 fw with BT router

Just updated the firware on my TC to 7.6.1 and I now have problems with the TC wifi configured to extend the wifi from my BT router. These include flashing amber light on the TC, amber connection to the Internet in Airport Utility and general access chaos on my home network, loss of internet connectivity being the worst symptom!
Only fix appears to switch wifi on the TC off completely. All was well until until the fw update...
Anyone else experienced this? And is there a fix?
Thanks

The AirPort assigns IP addresses via DHCP in a range you specify. You may also elect to assign devices their own static IP addresses. That does not involve the Extreme at all, though you may "reserve" those addresses in its DHCP Reservations table.
AirPort Utility > Network > Network Options...
Assigning static IP addresses obviates any need to determine the IP addresses the Extreme assigns.
Update its firmware to version 7.6.3.

  • Anyone using Extensis Portfolio v8.5.8 standalone  (desktop) version with Mavericks?

Extensis has retired this excellent software at v8.5.8a and I will be forced to find a replacement soon, but until I do I need to be careful not to break it with other upgrades. I am currently running  OS 10.7.5 on my 2009 Mac Pro and feel it's about time for an OS upgrade. I know Portfolio 8.5.8 is compatible with Mountain Lion but I am not sure about Mavericks, so I need to find a fellow user since Portfolio support and forums have been shut down. I'm hoping someone here might be using Portfolio with Mavericks, or can point me to a place where I might find a someone who is. I want to upgrade to OS 8 or OS 9, depending on the highest version that will work with Portfolio v9.5.8.

I have the same problems How did you get rid of all the skype files?
Here is what I did to delete the files...
    1. Go to the start menu if Windows 7 or below. If Windows 8, go to Search by moving your mouse to the top right hand corner of the screen.
    2. Type %appdata%
    3. Once #2 is typed, you should be in the file called "Roaming". When you are there, find your Skype file and delete it.
    Hope this helped!
Also, if anyone could solve my first post, that would be great. Thank you!

  • For no apparent reason, my iphone 4 stopped using my WiFi connection.

The only data connection it will use is cellular.  Never had a problem in the past.  Did not drop phone or get it wet.  Other iphones in family are still using our wifi.  I am the only one with the 4.  Anyone know what can be done to get me back on my wifi?

try and delete the saved wifi profile and reconnect it...
it happened on my phone too, I did a full shut down of the fone and then deleted and re did the wifi network.
    working fine since…

Help is here to resolve this issue with your wifi connection 88DaveS. Lets try disabling your "Smart Network Switch". Select Settings> Wifi. The 'smart network switch' is in the advanced settings. Locate the Menu icon in the upper right hand corner > Tap Menu > Tap Advanced > Locate and ensure the check box is Unchecked next to Smart network switch. Let us know if this helps.

  • Have timecapsule & 2 express and want an extended wifi network

Have these 3 devices but couldnt make them work, tried to set extended wifi network, first assigning timecapsule wired from fiber modem and then setting both express as extended thru wifi...but these two not working...
I ve read that express should be located to base (timecapsule in this case) and cannot link all as chain, is that correct?
How can I set a set of express devices working as wifi amplifiers ???
    Thank you in advance

Apple's "extend a wireless network" feature works like the hub and spokes of a wheel.
The Time Capsule would be your 'hub".  One AirPort Express would be at the end of a "spoke", since it must communicate directly to the "hub".
You could have a second (or third, or fourth) Airport Express at the end of other "spokes", but each Express must communicate directly to the "hub".
AirPort Express devices at the ends of the "spokes" cannot communicate to other AirPort Express devices at the ends of other "spokes".
Another way of saying the same thing is that although you can have multiple extenders, you can only extend the wireless signal one time, not two times. The devices can not be linked as a chain.
We assume that both of your AirPort Express devices are 802.11n models. Is that correct?
We also need to know what version of AirPort Utility that you are using in order to provide more tips.  If you are not sure, open AirPort Utility, click on the AirPort Utility menu in the upper left corner of the screen, and then click About AirPort Utility. Please post back with the version number that you see there.

  • Can I use my old TC as extended wifi over my new TC?

I just bought a 2TB TC, and it's working fine in bridge mode (because my provider uses NAT). My old 500MB TC (bought in 2008) is still working, so I wonder:
    1) If I can still use the old TC as an extended wifi. If so, how do I do it?
    2) If I can use the HD of the old TC as an extended HD, with my regular folders/subfolders/files on it.
    3) If I can access either my old or my new TC from a remote location over the Internet to get specific files. If so, how do I activate WAN? I can't see the setting on Airport Utility, though I've already enabled sharing there (on my new TC).
Thanks for any advise. I'm a newbie in this.

    Success! I was able to:
    1) Reconfigure my old TC 500MB as an extended wireless network to my base station, a new TC 2TB, by following the instructions in the link you provided.
    2) Erase my old files in the TC 500MB and replace this with my directory. Now it will serve as my archives. I don't have to refurbish them often since my new TC 2TB now acts as my Time Machine.
    3) Make both the base station and extended WiFi work, and each of the disks of the old and new TC too!
    HOWEVER, here's the sad part:
When I tried to connect to the old TC via Finder > Go > Connect to Server, I discovered that the address of my old TC is also dynamic, just like the address of my new TC.
Ungh. What recourse do I have to this problem short of demanding a static address from my provider (which I don't think they'll give, since they think a static address will lead everyone to establish a server business)?
Thanks in advance for whatever solution you might advise!

  • Does anyone use a Celluar Travel Router for wifi connecton?

    Hi!
I did some further research into this and you can have access to cell phone networks to create a wifi connection for the iPod Touch.
Does this really do the trick with having constant wifi when you're traveling or on the go?
    Any advice would be great!
    Thank You!

Yes, you do need to have a cell account and cell data plan for this to work.
I want to know if anyone uses this feature to create their instant wifi Hotspots?
    Thanks!

  • I want to extend the range of my Time Capsule, can I use Universal WiFi Range Extender, 4-port WiFi Adapter WN2000RPT?

I want to extend the range of my Time Capsule, can I use Universal WiFi Range Extender, 4-port WiFi Adapter WN2000RPT?

A universal may work but reliability tends to be poor..
You are much better using another airport .. extreme or express.. even a second hand older one.
Or do not use wireless bridge or repeater.. simply run ethernet or use EOP adapters to a second WAP run independently of the main router.. it is far more reliable and far faster solution .. wireless bridge/repeater will halve your wireless speed.

  • I can't remember my password for wifi on iphone 4. I'm with ATT and using windows 7 on my ps. Can anyone help?

Hello, can anyone tell me how to get into wifi. I don't remember my password. I had to do a network reset and it lost my password for wifi. I'm running ios5.

What router are you using?  If it's a linksys go to your browser and type in 192.168.1.1 and then browse for your wireless security password/or reset it.

Thank you, I am trying to last option now. Resetting my network settings and if that still doesn't work ill have to go in to the apple store. Hopefully I won't need a new phone because I'm already at my limit with replacements on my AppleCare even though the issue with the phones 3 out of 4 times wasn't my fault and I can't afford to buy another phone.

  • Can I use Netgear powerline range extender with Actiontec router M1424WR-D?

We have been using FIOS internet happily with an Actiontec router (M1424WR-D) since 2008, but we have a 'dead zone' in a remote part of our home. I am attempting to install a Netgear Powerline AV 200 Wireless N-Extender kit in the dead zone room, but have not been successful. If I give a unique SSID to the extender, and do not set any encryption, I am able to have wireless connection in the room, but having unprotected wireless connection is unacceptable to me. If I use the same SSID for extender and Actiontec router, and use the same encryption key for the extender as is used on the Actiontec router, then I no longer have wireless connection in the room. I hope someone can provide some help in understanding what it is I'm doing wrong in setting up this powerline extender. Should the extender have the same SSID and encryption key? Should it be a different one? Thanks for any help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Great news! At last I finally have been able to get a Netgear Powerline AV200 Wireless-N Extender Kit to provide wifi in the 'dead zone' in our house, and I was able to secure the network with an encryption key which I set up wirelessly, instead of relying on the 'wired' security option offered by the kit (a push-button on the side of the extender box). None of the phone techs at Netgear were able to figure out why we could not get the kit to work properly to begin with, and I finally gave up on the phone techs.
For anyone interested in using this product and who needs to set it up with a non-Netgear router, or a router that does not have a WPS button on it, please be aware that the resource CD in the box may be out of date. You will need to go to Netgear's website and download the Powerline Utility software for your device directly from the website. You will need to supply your product serial number in order to get the download. It is important to have this up-to-date software. I discovered that the up-to-date software downloaded from Netgear functioned more smoothly and allowed me to set up my encryption effortlessly. After forcing a factory reset on the extender and removing the device IP addresses associated with the initial unsuccessful attempt to create a secure network, I was able to set up the extender and secure it with absolutely no problem. The up-to-date software seemed to be the critical factor. The product seems to be working really well now and so far we are happy with it.
A word of caution when dealing with Netgear's phone techs. On some occasions when I phoned into Netgear my case was farmed out to a company called i-Yogi. I had a disturbing experience with one of the techs at i-Yogi. One of the i-Yogi techs said he could help me to set up encryption on my network using the AV200 extender, but that he needed first to gain remote access to my laptop. He also wanted access to another laptop in our house in addition to the one I was working from. This seemed odd and I refused to allow access to the second laptop. After gaining remote access he noted that I was using Norton 360 and he claimed that it was not working with my XP operating system and attempted to sell me a copy of McAfee security software at a reduced rate. He became very pushy about this. I refused to engage in this purchase and insisted that he return to the task of troubleshooting my encryption issue. At this point he still had not once attended to the configuration of the extender settings at all, but even so he refused to assist me, saying that it was not his problem that my network was not secured. It was not a good experience, and I believe he had a totally different agenda than dealing with my technical issue.

  • Problem with airport express extending wifi from extreme

My setup is an airport extreme wired to the internet with two iMacs connected by wire and an airport express to extend wifi from the extreme to the further parts of my house.  When originally installed about a year ago this arrangement worked perfectly, but I noticed a few weeks ago that neither my iphone, ipad, nor my MBP 13" is connecting to the aitport express anymore and the network extension is not working as intended.
Last night I investigated the isue and found that the express is connected wirelessly to my extreme because when I wired my MBP to the express and turned off the wireless connection it could still reach the internet.  But, even with the express sitting plugged in next to my iPhone I could not get it to connect to the express - it always uses the extreme and while I'm in range there is no problem.  The problem is that my house is old and the wals tend to cause problems with reception and I can't get wifi in the garden and some parts of the house.
I have the express and the extreme configured to allow access only by the client macs that I have provided and it looks like the two devices share this information when they are in extend mode (but not sure about that).  When I set up the system I added the aitports mac addresses to the approved list in the access control screen, which seemed to be necessary then though I removed them (the airport mac addresses) fromt he list last night to see what effect this had and biefly the airport did connect to my MBP.  But after returning it to its location where it usually is I have not been able to reconnect to it.
In brief;  I have an airport express extending an airport extreme wifi, it used to work, but now all wifi clients will only connect to the master.  I have a suspicion that a recent airport update has caused this (both airports are up-to-date) but can't be sure.  I have the express correctly configured to extend the wifi of the extreme as it was originally working.
One thing I have noticed - I had the express set to use a fixed IP by setting 'static' in the internet screen - this is not the current setting (it's reverted to DHCP) and I cannot force it to update to and remain set to static.
Does anyone know how I can restore the correct functioning of the express as an extension of the wifi network?
    Thanks
    Damon

Perform the Factory Default Reset one more time. Hold the reset button until the amber light has been blinking rapidly for 8-10 seconds before you release the reset button
Run the setup wizard, and wait for screen similar to this to appear, then click on Other Options:
Select the Add to an existing network option, then click Next and follow the prompts.
If you are still having difficulty, try running the setup utility on an iPhone or iPad, since Yosemite has a number of bugs in the setup process.

  • How can I join Airport Express and 2Wire 3600HGV to extend wifi?

I to join an Airport Express to the wifi network from my AT&T 2Wire 3600HGV router to extend the wifi signal.  I know it is not SOP to link an AX to a non-Apple device like this.  I found instructions ( http://fsdeviations.blogspot.com/2012/09/howto-2wire-3600hgv-airport-extreme.htm l ) for joining an Airport Extreme to the 3600HGV.  Has anyone used this or a similar approach with the Express to join and extend wifi from the 3600HGV?

Connect an Ethernet cable from on of the LAN <--> ports on the back of the 2-Wire modem/router to the WAN "O" port on the AirPort Express.
Power up the AirPort Express for a few minutes. The indicator light on the front of the device will be slowly blinking amber at this time.
    On your Mac......
Open Finder > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the Other WiFi Devices tab
    Click on AirPort Express
The setup utility will open up and take a minute to analyze the network, then suggest that the AirPort Express will create a new network....which is the correct setting.  The window will look similar to this illustration:
For Network Name......type in the exact name of the wireless network that the 2-Wire is providing......IF.....you want to "extend" the 2-Wire network and make one "big" network.  If you want to have the AirPort Express provide a different network, type in the name of the network that you want the AiPort Express to provide.
For Base Station Name....type in a device name that you want to call the AirPort Express
Password......If you want to extend the 2-Wire network, then type in the exact same password that the 2-Wire network is using.  If you want the AirPort Express to provide a different network, type in a password that you want to use with the network that the AirPort Express will provide
    Verify......verify the Password
Click Next, and the utility will set up everything for you automatically.
When you see the message of Setup Complete, click Done.  That's it. There should be a green light on the front of the AirPort Express at this point.  You can configure other AirPort Express devices in the same manner.

  • Airport extreme didn't extend WIFI network well

My major airport extreme(connect with cable) on the 2nd floor. I want to extend WIFI to the ground floor. I used 2 extra airports extreme to entend WIFI one by one. I set up the airports accoding to introdcution. I saw every airports light are green. But I can't get the network when I stand beside the farthest airport (from the major one).
    My wireless options setting:
    Radio Mode: "802.1a/n - 802.1b/g", i used to set it on "802.1a/n - 802.1b/g/n(automatic)" but not work.
    2.4GHz Channel: Aitomatic
    5GHz Channel: Aitomatic
I don't know which gen. whose aiports are. The mayjor airport be marked 2009 on the bottom. The other 2 are marked 2006. All airports are updated to the latest version 7.6.4.
Anyone know what I missed? Or What I should change setting? Thanks.

Do you mean I can't use "Apple-PT3" to extend "Apple-PT2"? Currently, the diagram looks like a line. But the system asked me to choose a device to be extended when finish step up "Apple-PT3" wifi extend before. I have chosen "Apple-PT1", the diagram is not like the picture I have attached. It looks like "Apple-PT2" and "Apple-PT3" are on the same level. Both connect to "Apple-PT1". But it doesn't work as well.
I have read you post. Do you mean if a place SNR level is 25dB, then the wifi SNR level which I can extend will be no more then 25dB if I put "Apple-PT2" there?
