If possible you need to Upgrade your current OS X  to Snow Leopard = OS X 10.6.x
It is Not available as a download... It is a Paid Upgrade.
Do this first...
Check that your Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard...
Snow Leopard Tech Specs
http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
If so... Purchase a Snow Leopard Install Disc...
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Other countries...
http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
After the Successful Install, run Software Update to get the latest updates for Snow Leopard and iTunes...
You should now be able to Sync your phone.
Be sure to make a Backup of your Current System Before Upgrading...

iPhone 5 Syncing
Syncing with iTunes on a Mac  requires:
Mac: OS X v10.6.8 or later

Old apps that run under Snow Leopard will not run under Lion? That's cruel.
Two problems: Snow Leopard has the Roseta-environment, that emulates a PowerPC. Lion does not have this any longer, so you can only run Intel-Applications in Lion (or universal binaries).
My PowerPC Applications look like this in Lion - I see quite a few "ghost busters" - mostly device drivers for my Nikon Scan, Panoramamaker, etc.
Since MacOS 10.7.4 the next generation of Applications is approaching - 64bit-only-applications, and 32bit plug-ins will be  left out - all 32bit-only external editors. The newest version of Aperture requires a 64bit Intel processor and will not except 32bit plug-ins- all older NIK plug-ins are a problem.

    Hello,
I have mac os x, version 10.6.3 in my macbookpro  and i want to update to os x lion and could use I cloud, so could you help me to do it because I have already done like it says here and inthe middle cut the downloading so couldn't, thanks, mariano

  • I purchased Creative Suite 5.5 two years ago and never installed it.  Can I now load this on either a new Mac or PC?  Will there be updates available for this software?

I purchased an upgrade version of  Creative Suite 5.5 two years ago, but never installed it on my PC.  I plan to purchase either a new Mac or PC soon.  Will I be able to load this upgrade 5.5 on my new computer and get existing updates?

You will have to install it on the same type of platform for which you originally purchased it... Windows or Mac... suites are platform specific, and CS5.5 is not eligible for a platform swap.  Whatever updates exist for CS5.5 will be available to you, but it is not likely that there will be more produced.

  • I have Mac OS X version 10.5.8 and couldn't upgrade my system

First I couldn't upgrade my software to 10.6.x or later to be able to buy the new X OS Mountain Lion?
Note: everytime I check for updates I get the message that there no updates available for my computer.
Second, is my Mac compatible with the new OS? My Model Identifier:          MacBook5,1

Contact Apple in your Country to Purchase a Snow Leopard Disc...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
After the Successfull Install...  Run Software Update and Update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8...
Next go to the Mac App Store and Purchase Mountain Lion...
    BUT...
Before attempting any Major Upgrade... get yourself an External Hard Drive... and create a Bootable Clone Backup of your current Hard Drive...
By far the easiest way to make such a Backup, is to use something like
    SuperDuper  http://www.shirt-pocket.com/
    or CCC  http://www.bombich.com/
That way, should anything untoward happen during the Upgrade,
    You will NOT LOSE ANYTHING.
(Get an EHD that is at least equal to your current Drive...)
You will also need more RAM... Get the Maximum you can for your Mac...
It is important to get the Correct and Matching RAM
    See Here  >  OWC RAM  >  http://www.macsales.com/
Lastly... with regards to Mountain Lion...
Check here for compatibility of 3rd party Software you may be using...

  • I deleted my microsoft office:mac 2011 word from my toolbar. I have Mac OS X version 10.6.8.  I tried to reinstall but it won't work. I get an error message each time. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I deleted my microsoft office:mac 2011 word from my toolbar. I have Mac OS X version 10.6.8.  I tried to reinstall but it won't work. This has never happened before.  I get an error message each time. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I don't have time machine.

By Toolbar, do you mean the Dock?  The Translucent bar normally at the bottom of the screen, but sometimes at the right or left side?
If that's what you mean, the Dock is merely a shortcut to what is already inside the Applications folder's Microsoft Office 2011 folder.  If you have Word inside your Microsoft Office 2011 folder, you can drag it back to the Dock.
If you deleted the Microsoft Office folder, or it is empty, you'll have to reinstall it.
If you don't have your registration code, you'll have to call Microsoft for a new one.

    Hi Linda...
You can purchase Numbers from the App Store.
You can launch the App Store from your Apple menu > App Store
    Or from your Dock >
    Or from your Applications folder.

I provided the link to purchase 10.6.  You need to get that first before you can upgrade any futher.  The difference between 10.6-10.8 is too much to list, but 10.8 is the most current.

If you're using a PowerPC Mac, you can't.
If you're using an Intel Mac, phone the Apple Store and order Mac OS X 10.6.

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
OS 10.6 Snow Leopard is once again available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
but nobody knows for how long it will be available.
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard.
To use iCloud you have to upgrade at least to Lion, but some functions are only available in Mountain Lion:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4759
You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:

If your Mac meets these requirements:

then you can order a Snow Leopard disk and install it.

  • I have Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 ,I want to buy the updated operating system that puts iMessage and Facetime on my Macbook Pro. What should I search for, and then purchase, in the App Store?

I have Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 ,I want to buy the updated operating system that puts iMessage and Facetime on my Macbook Pro. What should I search for, and then purchase, in the App Store?

FaceTime can run in the version of OS X that you currently have. To get Messageyou need Mountain Lion. The protocol used by Messages is iMeassage.
The question is does your MBP meet the specs for Mountain Lion.
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory
8 GB or more of available space

I have Mac OS X Version 10.5.8 what do I need to do to upgrade to the latest version of software??

Depends what MacBook version you have.
Go to  > About This Mac > More Info > hardware overview (should open at that usually).
Check the model identifier (MacBook4.1 or similar)
    Check Processer Name
    Processer speed
    Memory
    Specs for Snow Leopard (10.6.x)
    And for Lion (10.7.x);
Note that the memory quoted in those specs is absolute minimum for each OS - 106 really needs at least 2GB and Lion 4GB

Usually the HDD is the frist place to look.  Use the original install disk and start up the MBP with the C key down.  Go through the installation process until you see on the display a menu bar on top.
    Click on UTILITIES.
From the drop down menu select Disk Utility.
Open Disk Utility>First Aid and run Verify and Repair.
    What are the results?

i have mac os x version 10.6.8.  is Aperture compatible with my version?

Yes and no. Yes, there is a version of Aperture that is compatible with your machine (3.2.4), but Apple no longer sells it on the Mac App Store. The retail version is still available from Amazon, but it's about $20 more than the Mac App Store version.
If you do buy the retail version, you should be able to use Software Update to update your copy once it's been installed.
