Latest model New iMac 27 " screen 3.4 ghz intel core I7, 12 GB of memory running Mac OS X version 10.7.4
    Imovie 11 version 9.0.7
New Sony hd camcorder model HDR560V, 64 gigs of internal flash memory, recording at highest quality hd settings.
    Transfer is via USB.
Video in camcorder screen is perfect, same video connected directly from camera to a monitor is perfect.  Also seems to be ok when importing into a Mac Book pro.
Import into the iMac using  iMovie 11and played back full screen on the iMac has the look of  soft VHS tape, not tack sharp and pronounced video lag when panning or when a subject moves across the screen.  Has anyone else resolved a similar issue? Any suggestions would be appreciated.  I  paid for 3 years of Apple protection care but Genius bar experts at local Apple store are stumped.
    thanks

I'm sorry, I didn't know Imovie has it's own Forum- it's not listed here. Looks like I need an adapter for memory card, because I have an older Mac which doesn't have a slot for the card.

Hi cape_surfers, and a warm welcome to the forums!
UPDATE1: About the MPEG-2 component included with iMovie ‘08
UPDATE2: After raising a stink, I figured that I’d spend a little more time trying to figure out how to make my Handycam work with native iMovie ‘08. Turns out that you have to turn on the camera, wait for OS X pick it up as a USB storage device, and then hang tight for three or four minutes until iMovie detects that your USB storage device is actually a camcorder, and presents the import dialog. I’m glad that I can import native MPEG-2, but am somewhat puzzled by the delay.

Looking up your camera online, I found it is capable of 1920 x 1080 Full HD 60p Recording. It's the 60p (60 frames per second Progressive) that's the problem I think. iMovie '11 will do 60i (Interlaced). You might need to convert it from the format the camera currently uses into another format to get it into iMovie. Read more about it on this link here: How to import 60p footage From that message thread comes the recommendation to use ClipWrap to convert the camera's video clips now that they are in 60p:

Use ClipWrap to rewrap to QuickTime. Import the files. Edit in either 59.94 or 29.97. The latter if you want to use the high frame rate for slomo

  • I downloaded a film from a sony camcorder to iMovie and then burned to a DVD in iDvd. When showing it on my TV their is a shimmering in certain edges.

I downloaded a movie from a Sony camcorder to iMovie, did some editing and transfered it to iDVD where I burned it onto a DVD.
When I showed it on my TV I had shimmering on certain edges. Has anyone had this happen and if so how did you eleminate it?

    Hi
    A. Do not Use - Share to iDVD - in any iMovie version at all !
    B. Start a BRAND NEW iDVD project
    C. in iMovie'08 to 11 -  Share to Media Browser and as LARGE - NOT HD or other resolution as quality will be even worse
    - in iMovie HD6 - just close it and from within iDVD import the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it)
    - FinalCut - Export as QuickTime Movie - NO QUICKTIME CONVERSION - AT ALL !
    D. When in iDVD - see to that in the Lay-out menu (when it looks like a box-plott) there ARE NOTHING in the upper left most box (Auto Start box). As this overruns any Menu.
    E. Save as a DiskImage - TEST this first - befor burning any DVDs

  • I'm trying to import photos from my iphoto library, but keep getting a message saying I cant import from 7.1.5, that I need to upgrade to 7.1.5 or later.  But I have version 8.1.2.  I don't know what to do. I've been able to import in the past.

Sounds like an issue with the iPhoto Library
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • HT3775 how can i open the file MPEG-2 Video, AC3 on my mac, when its coming from a sony camcorder?

how can i open the file MPEG-2 Video, AC3 on my mac, when its coming from a sony camcorder?

I think those files are Samsung's proprietary format, so only the Samsung software can open and display them.  If they do not make their software for OS X, then you are stuck requiring windows.
I thought the DVR itself lets you save as standard avi as the backup file format?

pls.. kindly reply mi on the emaiID: [email protected] my contact no. is:09869256073
    with regards,
    nilesh hardikar

I read a whole bunch of random responses to similar questions ... here's some
Try opening the file in iMovie
Try changing the filename extension to ".dv"
    Here's an interesting one: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6172027
But my personal favorite idea is to just re-export the file from a PC in a better supported codec
(BTW If you don't have access to a PC then you can easily install Bootcamp on your Mac .... you can even download a free prerelease copy of Windows 7 to install on the Bootcamp partition if you're quick)

  • How can I import video and sound from my sony camcorder?

I have just bought the mac.  I'm struggling to import video AND sound from my Sony DCR-SR87 hard disk handycam camcorder.  From what I've read already, I ended up purchasing and downloading Quicktime MPEG2, and used the Utility MPEG Component Lion from downloaded MPEG Streaming 1.9.3b6 to enable video and sound to play on the computer directly from the camcorder.  The problem is that when I import these clips using iphoto (it pops up when I connect the camcorder), the sound does not accompany the video onto the computer.  I've hit something of a brick wall and would really appreciate any help.

    OK, according to
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3290
your camera is supported by iMovie 9.  Perhaps the question is better asked in the iMovie forum.  Would you like me to ask a moderator to move the thread?

  • Import AVCHD movies directly from my Sony camcorder in a post-PC era

Can anyone tell me if the new version of iMovie for iOS on my newly ordered iPad (3rd gen) can import directly (using the camera connection kit) from my Sony HDR-XR500 camcorder?  Can they be read at all?  If iMovie doesn't directly support it, is it possible using only the iPad and the camera connection kit to upload the videos to YouTube or another web site which can convert them?  Maybe a separate conversion app?

    iMovie iOS cannot read AVCHD.
There is no app that can play or edit AVCHD.
The iPad will not see the camera either, unless the camera can shoot photos.

There is no way that the iPad can currently see the AVCHD files, so no way it can do anything with them.
You would have to convert the video on a computer to Quicktime or mp4 files.
Maybe in the future someone, or Apple themselves, will support AVCHD.
But at the moment video editing is very limited on iOS devices.
We are not yet in a Post-PC era.
Tablets are still only limited devices.
What they do they do well, but you still need to have a PC around to tackle more complicated tasks.
And that includes a good place to store your whole video and photo collection, and where to edit them.

  • How do i import video from my sony camcorder

I need help importing video from a Sony handycam DCR-SX43 to my mac, driving me crazy

You can use Image Capture located in your Applications folder.
Connect the camera to your Mac.
    Launch Image Capture
Select Image Capture from the pop up menu (bottom left corner of the iMage Capture window).
At the bottom of the window click the pop up menu to select the folder where you want the videos stored.
Select the Import or Import All button at the bottom of the Image Capture window.
