When trying to restore my iphone I got an error 1015 and it says the iphone cannot be restored. What should I do next?This Error is often received when the iPhone has the iPad baseband installed. So iTunes sees a higher number in your iPhone and gives downgrade Error 1015, because iPad baseband is numerically higher than iPhone 3G baseband. You will have to search the Web for the complete fix which in now available.

I am trying to restore my iphone3g but I can only get to item 8 and then it stops and says ( could not be restored unknown error occured)

If you experience this issue on a Mac, disconnect third-party devices, hubs, spare cables, displays, reset the SMC, and then try to restore.
If you are using a Windows computer, remove all USB devices and spare cables other than your keyboard, mouse, and the device, restart the computer, and try to restore.
If that does not resolve the issue, try the USB issue-resolution steps and articles listed for Error 1604 above.
If the issue persists, it may be related to conflicting security software.

Possibly something is blocking Apple through iTunes from approving your iPhone Restore. Sometimes this is due to your computer Hosts File redirecting your request away from Apple. Seach your computer for Hosts, open this file with Word Processor program. If there is any reference to gs.apple.com this is the problem. This name and the number with it needs to be removed.

I disabled all my computer's firewalls and sure enough, IT WORKED!! My iPod is updated and just now finishing restoring! Thank you SOOOO SOOO much. : D

Open iTunes on computer, connect iPhone to computer with USB Cable, hold both home and power buttons for about 20 seconds until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode, click Restore button of iTunes on computer.

In particular the section titled Check your security software -
Related errors: 2, 4, 6, 9, 1611, 9006. Sometimes security software can stop your device from communicating with either the Apple update server or with your device.
Check your security software and settings to make sure that they aren't blocking a connection to the Apple servers.
