From an OS9 reference, error -54 is a software lock on a file or a permissions error. (Although there is no formal list of OSX error code some of the old codes still apply to OSX .)
First, try simply restarting your computer.
Try quitting iTunes, then deleting the .xml (not .itl !) version of the library file in the iTunes folder (iTunes will generate a new one).

As far as I can tell, Error Code 36 is an "I/O Error". It may mean you have a bad USB cable between the iPad and your computer, or the cable was not plugged in firmly.

I've just tried to upgrade an iphone 4s to the latest version of the operating system on offer and it fails. The error is "...an unknown error occured (3014)". This seems particulalrly worrying as I have a very up to date iMAC with the latest version of everything, the latest of eveything on the iphone until yesterday and very few applications or hardware devices to interfere with anything.
I have already had my first iphone replaced as it failed on the wifi hardware and now this one fails on what must be a very simple upgrade procedure. Do Apple actually test anything properly these days?
My nearest Apple store is 45 mins away and a typical appointment is about a 1 week wait.
If anybody has an idea how to fix this without reverting to my 3 hrs visit to Apple then I would appreciate it.

Sorry, no help here. That error generally means you jailbroke your phone & now it won't restore a stock iOS. Apple warns this may happen, & there is no support for jailbroken iPhones here.

Yes, my interpretation is that he is burning photos to a CD or DVD, so the error probably relates to a Superdrive problem. But this is pretty speculative without more info. The "throwing away lots of disks" suggests optical media these days. And I don't recognize nor can I find that error code.

Solution 1 - I disabled my BitDefender AntiVirus and attempted to install update 12.1, but still received the error U44M1P2003
Solution 2 - I located my Windows 64-bit Registry as you listed and all is set properly. Attempted another update install, but same error.
Puzzling observation that may be the issue. When I view my All Programs, it shows Adobe Photoshop Elements 12. However, when I view my Control Panel - Uninstall list, Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 is not shown. So there is no way for me to uninstall and reinstall the program in hopes of correcting any registry errors. Any suggestions now?
