I am getting "An unknown error has occurred (3014)" on my iPad2 while trying to upgrade to iOS6. What do I need to do to fix this?

Hi apiccolo5,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
See these articles for steps that can help you resolve the issue you're seeing:
iOS: Unable to update or restore
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694
Error 20, 21, 23, 26, 28, 29, 34, 36, 37, 40
These errors typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. Follow Troubleshooting security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, these errors may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
Also, check your hosts file to verify that it's not blocking iTunes from communicating with the update server. See iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > Mac OS X > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you have software used to perform unauthorized modifications to the iOS device, uninstall this software prior to editing the hosts file to prevent that software from automatically modifying the hosts file again on restart.
Best,
Jeremy

    Please Help!!

I had the exact same problem.  Worked fine for a couple days then suddenly getting this error.  I fixed it, however.
    Do this:
Open the App Store app on your phone.
    Go to the "Featured" section.
Scroll to the very bottom of the page and click on your Apple ID.
Screen pops up. Choose "Sign out".
Scroll to the bottom of the "Featured" section again.
    Sign back in.
    Try your download again.
This worked for me.  Good luck!

  • Trying to download Maverick, and keep getting "an unknown error has occurred'

Trying to install maverick, keep getting 'an unknown error has occured' message when I try to login to my apple account

Just saw the post from makras.
There are always a few problems with a new OS. Apple can't police every maker of crapware that's on the planet.
If you have a WD external drive, I would transfer (not clone) the files from it to another non-WD external drive that doesn't have crapware on it, and then erase the WD drive, and then never ever again buy a WD drive.
You will find many posts on the Apple Discussions from disgruntled narcissists (a few borderlines too) who blame Mavericks for their computer problems.
Mavericks is excellent (at least for me).
Every new OS has some incompatibilities with older software. That's why if someone is an early adopter, they should understand this, and if they have a low tolerance for frustration, or are uncomfortable with basic mac maintenance and troubleshooting, they should not be an early adopter.
Seems like the vast majority of problems that people complain about on the forums are related to crapware they have acquired on their computers from previous installations and promiscuous downloading habits.

  • TS3694 When I try to download an app I get "an unknown error has occurred"

    An unknown error has occurred.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

  • Why do I keep getting "an unknown error has occurred" when I try to update or add an app?  I have plenty of memory left.  Suggeestions?

Why do I keep getting this message "an unknown error has occurred" when I try to update or load an app.  The issue is not space (memory) as I have 2/3 memory left to use.  Any suggestions?

    Hi ...
Installing the OS X Lion Update 10.7.3 (Client Combo) reinstalls the App Store for you which may help. Restart your Mac after the combo is installed.
It's ok to do this even though you are already running v10.7.3.
If that doesn't help, if you have anti virus software installed, disable that.
If you have an app called LIttle Snitch installed, that can prevent apps from updating.

  • Getting "An unknown error has occurred" when trying to save a new contact

    Scenario:
Using Outlook 2003 and Oracle Connector for Outlook 10.1.2_03 against an OCS 9 installation.
When I make a new contact and try to save it I get an error message in a popup window (with the title "Microsoft Office Outlook") with the text "An unknown error has occurred.".
    Anybody seen this?
    How can I troubleshoot this?

The first thing to do would be to set up logging through Connector. Under the Help menu, select "Outlook Connector Troubleshooting..." and the dialog has a few logging options. The section that might be of interest here is Calendar, since that is where your contacts are stored.
Other than that, try recreating your user's Outlook profile to see if that fixes the problem.

  • HT5287 Anyone else getting "An unknown error has occurred" signing in to App Store?

    Hi all,
I have just acquired a Macbook Air for my wife and after a few bumps, have it up and running except that we simply cannot sign in to the App Store.  It's definitely not a userid / password issue (validated via login to app store from iPad/iPhone and set up new apple ID for the wife).
What is happening is simply: when trying to SIGN IN to App Store, I get the error "An unknown error has occurred".  Spent 90 minutes on phone with apple support with no luck.  I know there have been some server issues due to heavy load with Mountain Lion being so popular but I know folks who have managed to get in to the App Store from their Mac in the time frame I've been 100% unable to.
Any one out there with experience on this?  (I've looked at the various threads similar to this but didn't find anything that seemed to help)
    Thanks all

Solution... I formatted mt HD and reinstalled then applied updates.  Something must have been corrupted in initial setup
