TS3694 I have an iTunes error code -42408. Cant sync my new iphone 5. Any ideas

I am getting an error message -42408 when I try to authorize my mac mini to accept my new iphone 5. It also appears every time I try make a purchase through the itunes store.Basically everytime I need to enter my apple ID using the mac mini. I have only two computers authorized at present so have not reached the limit of five. Seemingly ipads iphones etc don't count.

Let's try the fixit from the following Microsoft document with that one:

    Hello chathamcpa,
I found an article with steps you can take when you are getting Error 7 when opening iTunes.  I recommend following the steps in this article:

I think you're probaly exceeding the size limit for that kind of export - I can't recall exactly what it is but that's a pretty big jpeg.
Can I just ask why you need to make such a large image file?

  • ITunes gives error code -54 when sync with my iphone 5

iTunes gives error code (-54) when i try to sync with my iphone5

I am having the same issue. Since updating to iTunes 11 my iPhone 5 will no longer wirelessly sync. I am operating the latest version of Mountain Lion on a two month old Macbook Pro. When I plug in the USB I go through the steps of making sure the box is clicked to Wireslly sync, but after a few minutes of un-plugging the cord my phone dissapears from my devices. It tries to locate it, but cannot.
Furthermore, when I launched iTunes 11 for the first time my phone was synced, but since I accidenttly hit the eject button in the top right, this button has yet to come back. Even when the iPhone is linked via USB. Am I Crazy, stupid, or is this a bug?
BTW, how did MrTrav15 have this problem on 10/17 a month-and-a-half before the launching of iTunes 11?

  • ITunes 11.1.4 totally snarfed my iTunes and ability to properly sync the associated iPhone. Any advice?

Computer in question is a 13" mid 2007 White MacBook running OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard). I do not have core specs in front of me but I can look them up later if needed. Phone in question is an iPhone 4s iOS is most current viable version for this generation, 7.0.4 (or so I though, but we will get to that)
    Background on how this started:
This morning my daughter wanted to sync her iPhone to add new songs to it. When she logged into iTunes a pop-up appeared saying 11.1.4 was available to install. Performed the install and then plugged the phone in and things went belly up. A warning box popped up saying that the phone needed to be reset to factor default and... I could not read the rest because the pop-up then disappeared. The computer then force "ejected" the phone. I pulled the USB out and then plugged it back in. More trouble.
Here are the issues I had in the half hour I was dealing with it.
-iTunes starts acting like it is synching with the phone but the button on the upper right that usually contains the name of the phone now reads: "You need to turn on synchronization in iSync before you can sync contacts and calendars."
Okkkkkaaaaay... And where is iSync so I can do this?? Quick Google search tells me that iSync is an app that is used for phones that are not iPhones to sync them to iTunes. Question: Why do I need iSync if this is an iPhone we are synching??
Next, clicking on the 'name' button we get our standard 'Summary' screen, except it is not so standard anymore... I have screen shots that I can post up if that would make things easier but for now:
-Next to the blue 'Done' button it reads "The iPhone "^FILENAME" cannot be synced because it cannot be read from or written to" Question 1: Why is iTunes no longer recognizing this iPhone for read from and write to? Question 2: iTunes recognizes the phone's name in the iPhone 4s pane, why is it calling it unrecognizable up here?
-In the iPhone 4s pane it says the iOS is 7.0.4 but below that it says "A newer version of the iPhone software is available (version 2/25/14). To update your iPhone with the latest software, click Update."  The 'Check for Update' button also runs out the right side of this pane. Questioin: Why is iTunes seeing a future update and telling me to get it?
-In the Backups pane where you can select either 'iCloud' or 'This computer' the phone is listed as being called "%1$S"; e.g., 'Photos synced to "%1$S" from other photo libraries will be...'
After six attempts I was able to get the new songs on to her phone. I ejected it and sent my daughter on her way.
Then I looked at the iTunes window itself now that the phone was ejected and see that it has been altered as well. If you have 'Music' selected from the drop down then across the top you have various sort options. After the 11.1.4 update these options are:
Artist   Genre   Videos   Playlist   Radio   List
Except when you click on each of these the options are obviously not what they say they are.
-Clicking Artist brings up a list that is (was) Songs
-Clicking Genre brings up a list that is (was) Albums
-Clicking Videos brings up a list that is (was) Artists
-Clicking Playlists brings up a list that is (was) I think Genius
-Clicking List brings up a list that is (was) Playlists
The only thing that does not seem to be screwed up is the Radio option as that brings up the Radio option.
At this point we had to leave for school so I was not able to search for any further issues but I will not be surprised if there are more.
I have tried a number of searches over the course of the day and cannot find anyone describing what I am seeing here. Can anyone offer some advice or assistance on how I can fix this?
    Thanks

    Following up.
After messing around with the computer for a couple hours last night I discovered that the issue extended to iTunes having difficulty recognizing any iPod as well when I tried plugging in 3rd and 4th generation Nanos and a 3rd generation Touch that I had laying around.
This morning I discovered, by viewing the 'About iTunes' option, that iTunes was under the impression that it was still version 11.1.3(8). When I ran a Software Update the computer said everything was up to date however, which would imply that somehow the computer was communicating that iTunes was version 11.1.4
Working under the assumption that perhaps the issues I was seeing were the result of a botched installation of the update I downloaded the update of the web and then ran the update from the .dmg
This solved the problem and now iTunes recognizes iPods and iPhone in a proper manner and all conflicting labeling has been restored to normal. I have no clue what caused the botched install but at least it is fixed

  • HT201210 itunes error code 42408 ??

I am having trouble with itunes cant get it to open gives me an error 42408  and no other options  I am afraid to unisntall it and loose all my music.

I believe it's some kind of software conflict, you should be able to resolve it by downloading the latest version of iTunes here: http://support.apple.com/downloads/#itunes Hope that helps. Also do you backup your computer using time machine? You should regularly backup your computer & music. Rather than remove iTunes, try updating to the latest version.

  • Secure link to itunes store failed computer not connected to internet tried ununininstalling everything to do with itunes no joy also error code coming up E0000225 anybody out there got any ideas

Secure link to itunes store failed, (computer not connected to internet tried uninstalling everything to do with itunes,no joy also errror code E0000225 appearing. Have turned off windows firewall and also my Bullguarg security settings. Can anybody out there please help me thanks.

    Hi,
You could be right that the response to clicking on help is a symptom of an entirely separate issue, but nevertheless the secure link to itunes is definitely failed, and I am unable to log into Itunes on either PC.
I also noticed that even if I click on the link to create a whole new Apple ID, I cannot do that either, presumably because the secure link is not working.
After I noticed that there were weird things happening this morning, I did change my Apple ID password in the hope that this might resolve it, but it seemed to make it worse.  Now, all of my apple devices keep constantly prompting me for the apple ID password, and randomly either accepting it, or telling me it is wrong.  I know the password is correct because I can log onto the apple Manage My Apple ID screens in a web browser with it.
I was starting to think that this is an ISP issue (BT Broadband), but I have not seen anyone else posting with the same issue.  Does Apple use a different security protocol to everyone else?  I'm asking because all other secure services seem to be working fine, but anything related to apple that requires a secure connection or authentication is having issues.
I have also seen reference to making sure that Itunes is listed as an allowed program in Windows Firewall.  I cannot seem to do this because it says that my Windows firewall is being managed by McCafee.  I have checked the settings in McCafee, and it appears to me that Itunes, Bonjour, and many other apple programs have been granted "Full" access.  As said before in any case I have tried temporarily disabling the firewall and even this did not solve the problem.

  • Since updating itunes to 10.6.3 my playlists no longer sync to my iphone 4, any ideas how to rectify this?

The playlists still show in itunes on my pc but they no longer show up on my iphone.  Well one of them does, but a Christmas playlist isn't going to do me much good at this time of year ;D

I'm sorry I didn't post back earlier, I haven't been using my VPN lately. However, today, I did use it for hours and the problem persisted exactly as explained. I did some more searching and found the following solution on a similar thread. Worked like a charm:
the vpn daemon has to be restarted. after that it works perfectly.
    1. Open Terminal
    2. Unload the VPN daemon using the following command (for those who don't know, don't include the % sign when typing in Terminal):
    % sudo launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.racoon.plist
Note: After you type the command in, Terminal will give you a warning and ask you if you want to continue. Enter your password and continue.
    3. Reload the VPN daemon in Terminal (again, not typing the % sign) :
    % sudo launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.racoon.plist
That should do it! Thank you to everyone who tried to help me. Hopefully this helps others out there...
P.S. For those that are unfamiliar with terminal. When you type in the commands, that's not a hard return in there before the path /System/Library... etc. The line break is just because the path is too long to fit on that line.

  • Error Code (-42408) Itunes Store

I am requesting assistance with making purchases in Itunes. For some reason, I receive an error code (-42408) while attempting to purchase music in the Itunes store. Can anyone tell me what the problem seems to be.   I have reviewed the posts in Google and it seems like an old problem. Unfortunately, I am on my 2nd ipod because I thought there was an issue with the ipod itself. $150 later, Itunes is still doing the same thing. Please help me...

  • Rolled back to iTunes 10.7; works, but error code -42408

After just upgrading to Mountain Lion, I decide to trash iTune 11.x in order to re-install iTunes 10.7 in order to be compatible with my music collection on an external hard drive, which was setup in iTunes 10.7.
I think I've done everything correctly, and my iTunes library now does work.
However, upon opening iTunes, I get "error -42408"
iTunes will proceed to work, after I clik 'OK'.
Any ideas on what "error -42408" refers to?
    How to remedy?
    Thanks!

I don't see why your music collection won't work with iTunes 11, there's nothing particular about media files to particular iTunes versions.
iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3297 > Specific Conditions and Alert Messages: (Mac OS X / Windows) - including specific error codes.
Error -42408may be due to residual later versions of support files than those which work with iTunes 10.7.  Several possible options:
      1) Restore them from another source (e.g., a Time Machine backup).  Check https://discussions.apple.com/message/20441424 which requires you have a Time Machine backup. A  variant of this is at: https://discussions.apple.com/message/20448184
      2) Use Pacifist to re-install iTunes 10.7 and let it install the old versions over the new versions by responding "yes" when it asks if you want to replace files.
      3)  Untested.  If you delete the specific iTunes system files the 10.7 installer might just replace them with the old version as long as it doesn't see a newer version in place.
This may include these files in /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/ which apparently get updated by iTunes 11:
      AirTrafficHost.framework
      CoreFP.framework
      DeviceLink.framework
      iTunesAccess.framework
      MobileDevice.framework
    4) Error -42408 fixed - https://discussions.apple.com/message/20580493
    quit iTunes
    trash ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunes.plist
    start iTunes, and authorize account
Note, the ~ means the library in your Home directory, not the one at the top level of the hard drive.  You may need to use the Go To item in the Finder menus to open that folder.  Mac 101: Easily show the user Library folder in Lion - http://www.tuaw.com/2011/08/25/mac-101-easily-show-the-library-folder-in-lion/

  • When updating iTunes on my MAC, I get the error code (-42408)

When I try to open iTunes on my MAC it states I need to update. After updating, it closes and when I open again, I get the same updates. When I choose to not update, I get the error code (-42408). What can I do now?

What is your iTunes version? The error message indicates missing ressources or software conflicts.
Did you try to downgrade from iTunes version '11 to '10?
