TS3694 What is the cause of "error 1015" when trying to restore and update an iPhone 3gs?

What is the cause of "error 1015" when you're trying to restore and update an iphone 3gs? My iphone is currently in recovery mode and can not get out of it. All the information about my iphone shown on itunes is only marked as- N/A. How can I get my iphone out of recovery mode and get it to recover and update?

Error 1015: This error is typically caused by attempts to downgrade the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch's software. This can occur when you attempt to restore using an older .ipsw file. Downgrading to a previous version is not supported. To resolve this issue, attempt to restore with the latest iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch software available from Apple. This error can also occur when an unauthorized modification of the iOS has occurred and you are now trying to restore to an authorized, default state.
In other words, either your phone is jailbroken and you are sadly out of luck or you are trying to downgrade iOS.

I closed all the apps and turned everything off, including cellular, 3G, roaming and it still keeps rebooting... So i decided to do a restore via iTunes. Now Every time i do a restore and update I keep getting Error 29 in iTunes. I read that error 29 usually means a bad or incompatible battery. I tried batteries from two different iPhone 4. Both were original batteries. I also tried different computers, different cables and I during the update process it gets 3/4ths done and I'm getting error 29 on iTunes. The phone is back on recovery mode..... I can't get it out of recovery mode and I can't get it to update.....

Iphone 3GS error when trying to restore and update

I took my old Iphone 3GS and tried to run an update on a new Itunes acct so I could use like a ipod since my other acct is tied to my current phone. Itunes did a restore and then errored when it tried to update with the latest software. Now it is only showing the image of a USB cord to be plugged into Itunes and my Itunes is not seeing the phone anymore.
Please help if there is a way...I did the troubleshoot on the device before and updated drivers. They were current before the restore and my computer still sees the iphone under upspecified - Apple Mobile USB Device Driver.

Thank you for the quick response and I went throught the step shown but iTunes is still not seeing my device in itunes menu when i do this action. The phone is also still showing the connect to itunes screen and no pop-up to restore has happened. I tried the steps 3 times.
Also, I tried to troubleshoot the device and see if that would correct the computer seeing as it did before but it says there is no problem with the device.
any other thoughts?

Sounds like you have VoiceOver 'on' - try triple-clicking the home button and see if that turns it off, and if it does change what Settings > General > Accessibility > Triple-Click Home does.
Otherwise you can either use the 'tap-to-select double-tap-to-activate/use' process to gradually go into Settings > General > Accessibility and turn VoiceOver off, or you can do it by connecting to your computer's iTunes : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4064

Usually the 1303 error is in regards to a corrupted or missing backup of your iPod Touch. Try removing or moving the backups to another location and then try to restore your iPod once again.
