TS3694 itunes unable to restore my ipod as ipod cannot be found?
My son updated his ipod to ios7 then forgot his passcode. I have followed the steps to restore the ipod but I am getting a message stating ipod cannot be restored. Device cannot be found. How can get his ipod back up and running?
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

ITunes could not restore the iPod . . . because an error occurred
I recently upgraded my iPod Touch (3rd Generation) to iOS 4. I an effort to enable the hardware encryption functionality of the device, I followed Apple's instructions to backup the iPod, erase it to factory settings (using the "Restore" button on the status pane of the iPod section of iTunes and attempt to restore from the backup I just made. Unfortunately, the restore now fails 100% of the time with the error "iTunes could not restore the iPod [iPod name] because an error occurred." There are no error numbers listed.
Any assistance anyone can provide would be much appreciated. A decent chunk of data that was local to my device now seems to be missing.I had this exact problem, just as described by the original poster. I went to the Apple store, but the Genius Bar was totally unable to help. I am glad I went, however, in that they did have a possible explanation, which was as alarming as it was unexpected: the backup files are probably corrupt (in my case, perhaps by an (unwanted) simultaneous iOS upgrade to 4.02?). Apple had no solution, but the only choice I can see is restoring a previous, good version of the backup image to your computer, and then trying the restore again. Hopefully you have Time Machine or something similar--for once in my life, I am prepared. The files in question are located in different places on Mac and PC. See:
http://forums.macnn.com/103/ipod-iphone-and-ipad/355013/iphone-backup-file-locat ion/)
Restore the entire folder, just to be safe. iTunes now accepts the backup and seems to be working normally. It has reset, and the full restore is in process. I won't know for a few hours if my all app data is intact, so I'll have to report back.
PS: Do to some panicky monkeying around earlier in the day, I also had to restore earlier versions of these 3 files to make it work, as iTunes was no longer recognizing the old image files as belonging to my iPod. I'm not sure which one is truly responsible for the confusion.

On my ipod touch, i can't seem to get the imessage app.. I have updated my itunes and even restored the ipod to factory settings with the latest update. Maybe the ipod is too old? Is that even a thing? Is there another app I can download to have access to my contacts with imessage?
That comes with iOS 5 (Settings>General>About>Version) and only the 3G abd later iPods can go to iOS 5 or later

Ipod nano won't sync podcasts from iTunes after I "Restored" the ipod.
iPod nano won't sync podcasts from iTunes after I "Restored" the iPod.
If you've read the Technical Specification you will find that the nano can only use Firewire for charging, not for syncing:
http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/specs.html
"Charging via USB or FireWire to computer system or power adapter (sold separately)"
So you can rule that out.
Have you tried the 5 R's?

Currently restore the ipod cannot because it could not establish a link
When the restore writes: "at the moment restore the ipod cannot because it was unable to connect"
What to do ?
При восстановление пишет: "в настоящий момент восстановить ipod не удается так как не удалось установить связь"
Что делать ?If the message said could not contact the update server then:
- Powering off and then back on your router.
- iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
- Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
Public DNS — Google Developers
OpenDNS IP Addresses
- Try on another computer/network
- Wait if it is an Apple problem
Otherwise I do not understand what the message said. -
I have an ipod touch, when you plug it into itunes, it gives a message for recovery & restore. You click on OK, it will show extracting software, after extracting the software. Another message shows up restoring ipod, after awhile, it shows "ipod cannot be found." The restore will then terminate.

After installing the latest of iTunes the original files for almost 300 songs cannot be found for syncing to my iPod. The files are songs that were bought from iTunes, and copied into iTunes from CDs.
Apparently, security programs like Macafee and Norton view Itunes updates as new programs and block then from access. If you add Itunes to the list of exemptions, it solves the problem.

I had songs on my PC and my shuffle and my PC crashed. They were unable to restore my iTunes library when my computer was fixed. The songs still remain on my Shuffle, but now it is being replaced with another Shuffle. Q: How do I get my music from my old Shuffle onto my new Shuffle? Thanks!
You will need the help of some sort of 3rd party software to help you copy the content from your Shuffle back to your PC. Once you have done that, you can reimport this music into iTunes and configure it to sync to your new Shuffle.
