TS3694 iTunes Update won't complete because of error message: "Apple Mobile Device failed to start ...".
When updating to the latest iTiunes, download and install work just fine until alomost to the end, when the install stops and I get the following message: 'Service Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services. That's all I get, and install stops completely after asking me to choose either "Abort', or 'Retry',
But I know I have privileges because my iOS devices (iPads, iPad Mini, and iPod Touch) work just fine.
So now, I can't use iTunes on my computer because I can't download the software.
Great!

Current iTunes update won't load. Tells me MSVCR80.dll was not found. Wants me to reboot. If I reboot, will I lose my music?
Hi DDay@55,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
To resolve this error, I recommend completely removing and reinstalling iTunes and all of its related components using these steps:
Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.
You can find the article with these steps and more information here:
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
This process should not affect any music or content on your computer, but you may want to
back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive.
Best,

When I open iTunes I get an error message "MSVCR80.DLL missing". I downloaded this .dll and installed in C:\Windows|System32. I then scanned my computer to fix registry errors.I uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled and got the following error message "Apple Mobile Device failed to start".

Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates -
I am unable to download iTunes on my second Windows 8 computer (64 bit). I got it fine on my first one and have used it quite a bit. After downloading the program and installing it on the second computer, I keep getting this error message: "Apple Mobile Device Failed to Start." This happens when when my IPhone 5c is connected via Wi-Fi and I have clicked on "Trust This Computer." (I have tried to install several times-- It gets hung up when it reaches"Starting Services.")
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
and paste into:
C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

I have already uninstalled itunes, all the related programs and I cannot reinstall, this Apple Mobil Device message stops the install.

The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

Hey AndreaKK,
I would try the following directions:

If you have Windows XP, there are slightly different directions in here:

when installing itunes I received the following error "service Apple Mobile Device failed to start, verify you have sufficient privileges to start system services"
Me too. And if someone comes back on here with the same solution of "uninstall and re-install", please provide further advice after you have done that 3 times and the program still has the same problem in addition to the "failure to load the C runtime library" R6034 issue. I have removed itunes 3 times however I do not have permission to remove the program files/apple file and the uninstall doesn't remove it.
You're not alone buddy.
Frustrated.
