I can think of lots of reasons why it might not be connecting, but since you don't give us any information at all other than the fact that you have a 3G, we can't even begin to guess...
iOS version? iTunes version? Windows or Mac? Operating System? Direct to USB? USB Hub? I'll give you a quarter for a clue...

As a rule syncing is one way, from the library to the device. There should have been a warning that media content on the device would be removed and replaced with that in the local library. If the content were still on the device it could be recovered with the steps in Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. You can redownload your qualifying past purchases from the iTunes Store, Amazon store, etc. Do you have the previous computer your device synced with, or a backup, from which the library could be recovered?

One thing to try, is to reset (reboot) the iPad. Hold both the Home and Sleep buttons for several seconds until the Apple logo appears. Ignore the "Slide to power off" arrow. The iPad will restart after a couple of minutes. Resetting this way will not hurt anything, and sometimes clears up mysterious problems.
If you can not do this reset, you may have a defective Home button. Have an Apple Store Genius look at it, and you might get a new iPad.

updated to ios6 on my ipod touch 4g when i try to turn it on it doesn't, it just comes up with the itunes symbol and the usb, so i plugged into laptop opened itunes and it says to restore back to ios5 i pressed restore and it cant connect to server? help?
Maunally restore it. In order to do this:
-Download the iOS 5.1.1 firmware from here http://www.redmondpie.com/download-5.1.1-ios-for-iphone-4s-4-3gs-ipad-ipod-touch -direct-official-links/
1. After downloading the firmware from the given link, open iTunes and click on your device.
2. Now press SHIFT on your keyboard and while pressing it click on "Restore".
3. A dialog box will appear.
4. Select the firmware you downloaded and click ok.
5. Done!!! Your iPhone will now be restored to 5.1.1 and if you had backed up your iPod before, then you can put all its settings afterwards. -

When I open iTunes it is slow to open for one, and two when it does see my iPhone and i go to sync it this is what I get in return... The iPhone "My Name here" could not be synced because the iPhone could not be found on the network. that is a pop up box in middle of screen that says that it does it like every time I go to sync the phone after i do app updates. I am getting very frustrated by this can someone please help. I have made 2 other discussion topics about this and no replies on them. Please if anyone can help I ask for help. I just bought an iPhone 4s yesterday and it wouldn't connect to the iTunes 10.6.3 I had already on my laptop for my husbands 3gs and my brother in laws iPhone 4. Neither of them ever had a problem syncing with itunes. When I tried I was told to uninstall itunes and reinstall a 64bit version. Took several attempts but I finally got it. Then it said that I needed to upgrade my apple mobile device support and for me to uninstall itunes again and reinstall it. I have done all of this several times and still cannot get it to work right. I have uninstalled every Apple software listed on my computer and had to reinstall it all. Help!!!!!!!
Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:

Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:

Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.

Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?
