Try popping out the SIM card and turn off the phone.
Pop in the SIM card once again and turn on the phone, make sure that the SIM card is placed and seated perfectly in the tray!

I am trying to set up a new iphone to my old iphone's settings. When i have tried to back it up it displays a error message saying that it cannot back up because the back up was not saved. Anyone have any ideas?
First backup the old phone to iTunes using right mouse click then backup after that restore from backup on the new device .

If your phone is frozen showing the Apple logo, you need to try to force it into recovery mode to restore it as discussed here:http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808. If you're getting error 21, try disabling or troubleshooting your security software (anti-virus, etc.). The required resource cannot be found: This alert message occurs when your device has a newer version of iOS than what is available in iTunes. When troubleshooting a device that presents this alert message, go to Settings > General > About and check the version of iOS on the device. My phone does not want to come on pass the 'connect to itunes' logo on the screen. This happened after I was updating the phone software through itunes, and itunes said I needed to restore my phone if it is to work with itunes, which I did. An error (1015) box popped up and... well.... here we are. I have an iphone 3G. The support coverage is expired.
I just want to return to my phone functioning as before.Was this iPhone jailbroken?

Try restoring the phone. Do a backup of your data on iTunes by syncing it to iTunes (or right click your iPhone and click backup) and then do a restore by clicking "restore". Do not disconnect the iPhone until it is done. After it is done, iTunes will prompt you if you want to restore from backup. Click your backup and let it run through it's process again. See how that works. It just could be a software issue.

my iphone 3gs have a problom because i tryed to downloud apps from my computer with out apple id so some times it restart and the spring board always get crashed so now affter i made an apple id i tryed to update it to ios5 but the phone restarted in the middle of the update so restored the files from my computer but when i tryed to activeate the phone from wi fi it said activeate server is now unavilable and when i tryed to activeate it from itunes it told me there is no sim card why is that
My phone is an iPhone 3gs too, and last night actually it said the same thing, "No Sim Card" and my friend and I started panicking but I did what I call a "Forced Reboot" where you hold down the Home and Power buttons until you see the apple logo. DO NOT RELEASE UNTIL THEN otherwise you are just shutting it down. So, I did that and it worked again....

I have just rceived an upgrade to an iPhone 3GS. Now, when I visit the Store all the prices are in US dollars, not a big problem but I cannot edit my card details or contact to a UK address. I cannot see how to change this.

I tried to restore the feed http://feeds.feedburner.com/imananddinasbroadcast but feedburner refused.
I know that I missed things up but I still have hope in working things out.
