Error 1015: This error is typically caused by attempts to downgrade the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch's software. This can occur when you attempt to restore using an older .ipsw file. Downgrading to a previous version is not supported. To resolve this issue, attempt to restore with the latest iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch software available from Apple. I've already updated my iTunes to the latest version available for PC. The phone is stuck in recovery mode and if I disconnect it from the computer it goes black and then cycles in the reboot screen.  All im trying to do is restore to factory settings.

Put it in recovery mode and restore it as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808.

I go to click restore and it says it will reset it to factory default and I'll lose all my current data. I have all my sons pictures and videos along with this notes. I can't lose all of this data! Please help!

You have to restore the iPod, no ifs, ands, or buts...
After iOS is installed you will be asked if you what to set it up as a new iPod or if you want to restore from a backup.
If you have a good backup you can restore that and you're good to go.
If you don't have a good backup, then you end up with a "clean" iPod....

  • My daughter's iPhone 3gs has just been replaced by Apple. When she tried to restore her backup files she was told to upgrade to itunes 10, but she can't because her Macbook is too old to run it. What do we need to do?

My daughter's iPhone 3gs has just been replaced by Apple. When she tried to restore her backup files she was told to upgrade to itunes 10, but she can't because her Macbook is too old to run it. What do we need to do to get all her stuff onto the new phone?

Here's what I'd do, go back to the Apple store, take the phone & computer. Ask the geniuses how to fix this since they replaced the phone. You never know, they may just update the computer for free...its happened before...can't gurantee it will happen for you, but worth a try.
Otherwise, you're looking at purchasing a retail copy of Leopard, however if her computer can handle Snow Leopard you can purchase the $29 upgrade disk & install a full copy of SL.

  • My iPhone 3Gs has started crashing when using apps once the battery gets down to around 80%.

My iPhone 3Gs has started crashing when using apps once the battery gets down to around 80%. Sometimes it will reboot on its own, and other times you have to leave it for an hour or so and then manually turn the phone on again. Any ideas?

Did you try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes up again?
If this does not work, try to save as much data as you can and set it up "as new device": How to back up your data and set up as a new device

If you are using XP, and you went through the procedure at the bottom of the previously linked document to change the iPod's assigned drive letter, and you also tried putting it into Disk Mode...
If you have not already, try shutting down your computer and disconnecting all USB devices, including hub.  Start up with only standard keyboard and mouse connected.  Just to be safe, put the iPod into Disk Mode again
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363
Run iTunes.  Connect iPod to a direct USB port on computer.  iTunes may prompt you about "recovery" and ask you to do a Restore.  Try to do a Restore again.

  • My iPhone 3GS has just frozen.  My iPhone 3GS has just frozen.  It was going slow all day and has now completely frozen on the turning off screen.  Help!

My iPhone 3GS has frozen.  It was going slow all day, and has now completely frozen on the turning off screen.  Anyone any ideas?  Thanks.

The iOs 5.1 is a huge file that needs to be dowloaded when updating/restoring, your phone hasnt completed the update so its now in recovery mode. Look on the left of itunes, it should say downloads under the store section with a spinning wheel, click that and youll see the update file with a time remaining, wait for that download to finish then try the restore again  and it should work

  • My ipod touch has entered restore mode, but when I attempt to restore it I get the error code 1604.

My daughters ipod touch has entered restore mode, but when I attempt to carry out a restore I get an error code 1604.
Any easy solution to this problem?

Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for error 1604.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while iPhone remains connected.
iPhone should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.
